Never heard of that limit. I have had 3 laparoscopic surgeries: lapband, lapband removal, sleeve. They may have some difficulties if you have a lot of scar tissue. My surgeon for my sleeve was worried about scar tissue, but I was lucky and I had a minimal amount so it didn't cause any complications when he got in there.

Less than 14 days post op - guzzling water like nothing
knitlil09 replied to adrinicmen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thera nothing wrong. Some people have more issues with swallowing than others. Count yourself as one of the lucky ones. I was the same. After about day 4 or 5 I could drink at regular pace without a problem. Some people struggle getting little sips in. -

Whats your "full" signal?
knitlil09 replied to knitlil09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still have yet to feel hungry either. I have not had a single hunger pain since surgery regardless of whether I eat or not, so I have t pay attention to my energy to know whether I need to eat. -
Lap band or sleeve? Why did you get revision to sleeve?
knitlil09 replied to okaykay's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I originally had a lap band, and now have a sleeve as of earlier this month. I had severe complications with my band and eventually had to have it removed. Toward the end, there wasn't a single day I didn't throw up. I didn't know it at the time, but the lap band has a very high complication rate and many doctors have stopped doing it all together. It's a personally preference, and there is a chance that you will be one of the lucky ones to not have complications with the band, but maybe not. On my way! Thing you might want to consider is that many insurance companies will only pay for one wl surgery per lifetime. Why would you want a surgery that's reversible? -
White tongue! eeeekkkk
knitlil09 replied to cherylmonz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not every doctor has you doing protein from day one, so you might want to check. My dr and nutritionist say no protein drinks for the first week. I was worried I'd get hungry but I didn't at all. All I had week one was water and jello. -
how soon can we do protein bars?
knitlil09 replied to mayonaise's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say to stick with the protein shakes for now. If you want to incorporate bars later, wait until you are back on regular foods. -
TX - San Antonio anyone (far north side)
knitlil09 replied to lisavz's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't know the specifics, but she had it done about 4 years ago and has been at goal for a few years now. She has competed in a bunch of triathlons and is now training for an ironman. -

Dr. Seeger is the best! He did my sleeve recently as well as rny for my sister a few years ago. Are you going to be at foundation surgical hospital? It's a green facility and all the staff there is wonderful. Good luck! -
Abdominal pain since staples removed
knitlil09 replied to Gr8fulMiniMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had staples, but they were removed before I was discharged, and replaced with steristrips. I never had any issues with pain associates with the staples. You might want to call your doctor to make sure it's normal. -
Congrats!
-
Me too! It's not just on the incision sites. It seems like when it comes on, I feel it all over my belly. It's terrible!
-
I am having the same problem. Some of my steristrips have started to fall off, but the big incisions still have them. It also tends to come and go. What I found helps, because I am unsure whether I am allowed to put anything on it is to ice it for a little while. You might want to give that a try, but don't ice for more than 20 minutes at a time.

Inability to throw up?
knitlil09 replied to Ava324's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Considering how much I ended up throwing up toward the end of having my lap band, this sounds great! I don't want to throw up, I HATE throwing up. If I were to mess up, lesson learned for next time. Let that pain that you're going through for 10+ minutes be a reminder for next time. -
I am certainly not trying to change your mind, it's a very personal decision, but I do feel I need to chime in on a few of the things you have said here. I had a lap band in the past, had it removed a few years ago, and now have a sleeve. I personally wouldn't decide on a surgery just because it's cheeper. That doesn't mean it's the best option. Plus, if you add up all the money you're going to spend on fills (and it will be a LOT in the first year) your cost isn't going to be that far off from the sleeve depending on where you get it done. Just because the person you live with has not had any complications doesn't mean you won't. In fact, studies have shown that about half of lap band patients have complications and need to have them removed eventually. Which leads me to you saying that you like that it's reversible. Why would you want something that's reversible? You want your weight loss to be permanent, not temporary. If you have to have it removed, which there is a high likelihood of, then you will most likely regain all the weight. I'm sorry, I don't understand your statement about the loose skin. It would happen with any surgery just depending on how much you lose. Like I said, I am not attempting to change your mind, clearly you have already made it up, but I think you may have some of your facts wrong. Good luck with your surgery and I hope you are successful.

Cant get down enough fluids and scared
knitlil09 replied to Kat619's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I see you said you have nausea. Did your doctor not send you home with anti nausea meds? If not, you should ask for them. I really didn't have any nausea after I got out of the hospital, but I had meds just in case. I also agree, don't worry about protein right now, that will come in time. -
Less than a week!

So glad you're doing better! -
You're never going to be able to convince those people to think differently. But I say who cares if it's "cheating" as long as you get healthy? That's the most important part after all.

June 9th Sleeve - Looking for friends!
knitlil09 replied to IfICanDream's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm feeling really good for the most part, but definitely get worn out easily. The only incision that really hurts anymore is the biggest one on the lower right. I've had no problems getting in all my fluids thankfully. I am slowly trying to incorporate more liquids in to see how I react. So far, so good. I am getting so sick of protein shakes though now! I could die happy if I never see another one! Can't wait til I move onto the next stage. I want to chew something lol. -
Crushing pills or swallowing pills
knitlil09 replied to jackie_2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's crazy to me how different all doctors are. I would love to know the reasoning behind all of their different requirements. My doctor has his patients swallowing pills in the hospital on day 2. I am 8 days out and I've had no problems whatsoever swallowing any pill I've tried. -
Just had my very first moment where I could feel my sleeve actually working :-) I am a week post op and have been on mostly clear liquids. I started incorporating protein shakes two days ago, but today I picked up some broccoli cheddar soup from Panera. I ate a little over 1/4 of a cup and feel full! It feels the same as how I would feel preop after eating a really large meal. I know for those of you that have been on this journey for a while have already experienced this, but I'm really excited! It was hard for me to imagine and the whole surgery didn't necessarily feel real until now.

For those of you who are pre-op
knitlil09 replied to TonyaNKy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon has his patients on it for a year post op when they are losing the bulk if their weight. I think it's a smart idea. -
It feels so good! I never knew how much I craved that feeling. I just almost never felt it before the sleeve. I know I'm still newly post op and will be able to eat more later on , but I feel like I have more control now. Food does not run my life anymore.

my body just wants to sleep
knitlil09 replied to daw3378's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sleeping a lot also. It's natural, your body is recovering from a major surgery. You will heal better if you listen to what your body wants. I've been sleeping about 9 hours at night and taking 2-3 hour naps every day. -
I am taking three weeks. My job isn't necessarily physically demanding, but I'm with clients a lot of the time and don't necessarily have the time to stop and think about hydration. I say if you can take the three weeks, do it. I'm 5 days out right now and am still very sore. Can't imagine going back to work that soon.
