Hello all. I am only one pound away from scheduling my surgery. I keep going back and forth between the bypass and sleeve. I am worried about the malabsorption with the bypass and long term success with the sleeve. What were deciding factors for some of you? This keeps me up at night and I want to make the right decision. I am on the lower end of the bmi scale. I think since I lost 10 lbs on my pre op diet my bmi is now below 40.. I have about 90 pounds left that I I need to lose to be at ideal weight. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I am so glad to help. I was soooo in your shoes 3 months ago. Can't wait to hear how you are doing in the near future. -
Feeling discoraged july sleever
jesswls replied to cchapman6's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh yes!!! That 3 week stall! I think we all went through it. It lasted 2 weeks for me then I suddenly dropped 7 lbs. it hit me again at 3 months and again a sudden drop. Don't let it discourage you. -
I am 3.5 months out and still get dizzy often when I stand up. I get 60-70 grams of protein a day and even days when I get all my water in it still happens. I wonder if it's just because I don't eat very much.

jesswls replied to wiightlosshippie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hold on everyone! It gets better! I am 3.5 months out and have experienced almost all of the above. After about the first 4 weeks you will really start to feel normal again. Especially after you start eating regular food. (For me about 6-8 weeks) the cramping and spasms first days out are normal happened to me and my surgeon kept assuring me it would get better and it did. The "hard" spot under your incision is most likely the sutures they use underneath I had the same thing as well. And they dissolve. I doubted myself in those first couple if weeks but boy am I glad I did it. I am 70 lbs lighter now and fit into a size 10. All my weight related issues have gone away and life is great. Hang in there!!!! ❤️ -

I have done everything under the sun to prevent hair loss and it finally caught up with me. A little over 3 months out. It has been my worst fear post op. Biotin, protein, even some "miracle" scalp treatment.. And it keeps coming out. But I already see tiny new hairs sprouting in so I think that must be in part because of the biotin. -
So funny. I'm literally trying it for the first time right now. Carbs are pretty high but seeing as how I can only eat about a quarter cup not so bad. Makes my tummy pretty gurgley though.

White tongue! eeeekkkk
jesswls replied to cherylmonz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier protein is a good one. It's not chalky at all. They sell it at Costco. -
I stalled for 2 weeks after the second week. Them picked back up again. I heard that 3-4 week stall gets almost everyone. Now I am averaging 6 lbs a week.

13 lbs in one week is huge!!!!!! I would not worry about that at all!

HELP! I'm not losing weight
jesswls replied to dski's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree! That 3-4 week stall is so common!!! I am at 6 weeks and I was so concerned after week 2 that I hadn't lost any weight. But low and behold. Since last week I've lost 6 lbs. keep your head up. -

jesswls replied to cherylmonz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello. I had that same white film on my tongue. I chalked it up to isopure! When I switched it went away. Where I had my surgery (kaiser nor cal) they are very clear that we need 70-80 grams of protein per day from day 1. Have you seen a nutritionist? The reason is we aren't eating any protein and our bodies are losing weight at such a high rate we need protein to keep our muscles from deteriorating. -
I am 6 weeks out and I had the same low grade fever for about a week. My doc said as long as it didn't go above 101 I was ok. She My body was healing from a major surgery so it was completely normal.

What a strange trip this is - surgery 5-29
jesswls replied to hrhlaurie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds like things are going really well for you! I'm still having a tough time. I get a very uncomfortable cramp when I eat solids. So I'm still sticking to semi soft. Can't wait until I get there! -

You are doing amazing! We all make mistakes. One of mine landed me in the ER last week. Turns out I was so constipated that when I took stool softeners it caused major havoc and I will leave the details out but let's just say I they had to give me morphine and medically induce a BM. worst nightmare ever. I am really making sure to get all my fluids in now. Today is the first day I ate without it being uncomfortable. Still having a hard time getting all the protein shakes in but I'm trying. As long as we do our best we will all be ok. The first few weeks are a huge adjustment but before we know it we will look back and it will seem so long ago. And so worth it!! -
5 days post op and bleeding from Belly Button
jesswls replied to flaco88's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This happened to me too. Although you should call the doc ASAP I wouldn't panic. For me..Turns out it was a little old blood that got stuck under the skin/stitch. There was a little bit of puss so the doctor gave me an antibiotic just in case. I was fine the next day and no more leakage. Hope it turns out to be something simple for you!!! -
Hello all. Wondering if anyone has had any experience with constipation after surgery? I am 2 weeks post op and I ended up in the ER Tuesday with severe constipation (which I didn't think I even had due to the fact that I was on a liquid diet and some purées.) plus the fact I did a bowel cleanse before surgery. It was so bad that they had to give me morphine and an enema and countless other violating things. Worst day of my life. The nurse told me it could have been a build up of all the protein shakes I had been drinking along with not enough water. Which admittedly have been very hard to get down. I still don't feel very well and today is the first day I have been able to eat anything since Monday evening. Total set back in my recovery process. Anyone else experience constipation? I am taking a stool softener daily now.

Can't handle any more protein today
jesswls posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had about 50 grams of protein and I know I'm supposed to get 70-80 but my stomach feels like it's trying to tell me to stop. It's super sensitive every time I take a sip and everything feels like it wants to come back up. I hate not reaching my nutrition goals when my body needs it but I honestly don't think I can. I hope this doesn't happen too often. :-/ -

jesswls replied to jesswls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 11 days out. I started purées 7 days out. It's just the taste and thick coating the shakes and even clear protein drinks give me that make me nauseated. That and the fact that I am completely full feeling all the time. I am not nauseated other than that. I just have to get through it until I can depend on my food for protein. -
If i only know getting sleeve was so painfull
jesswls replied to tarbaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lylabelle I hope you have a pretty easy going job. I am at day 10 and can't imagine going back to work yet. No energy. Pain is very minimal but our bodies just went through a lot of trauma. Hope you can rest at work <3 -

jesswls replied to tarbaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me the first 3 days were very hard. I am on day 10 now and don't need anymore pain medication. I also am out and about. Any type of surgery will cause pain for a few days. Hang in there it gets better! -
Just discharged. Had surgery 5/21
jesswls replied to yasmineSF's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery on 5/21 as well. And I am from the Bay Area too. how are you doing? Do you attend any support groups out here? -
Hi. I am 10 days post op and I went through the same thing. I could barely stand up to go to the bathroom.. Everything was spinning and I felt sooo sick. The nausea lasted 3-4 days and I treated it with zofran. And water is still the hardest thing for me to drink. I have to put crystal light in it or it makes me gag. Every day gets easier. Hang in there!

Sorry if tmi but I was just wondering when I should expect to have a BM? I am 1 week post op and no sign that it's near but it's so strange for me.. I'm used to being a once a day kinda girl. ????
