What a strange trip this is - surgery 5-29

Heck yes! The day before my surgery I went through my closet and got rid of 3 bags of clothes. Out of season things that I know I will never ever put back on my body. Felt so good. -
What a strange trip this is - surgery 5-29

Hello hrhlaurie, I am 6 days post op and all of the things you said described how I felt about a week before my surgery. Encouragement from my friends is what helped me to realize that I have always been able to do it on my own.. No problem. But guess what. I always gain it back. I am so glad I did not cancel the surgery. I am not going to lie. The first few days were pretty tough. I even cried a few times. But here I am only 6 days later and so so glad I did it. I am feeling better every day and I even ventured out to the vitamin store today for some isopure. I just had the guy carry the case out to my car. Haha. I think this surgery was the final missing tool I needed to finally be successful at losing weight and I wouldn't go back for any thing. I hope that helps. ❤️ -
Please Tell Me It Gets Better

Talk to your Dr. about Zofran. It has worked wonders for my nausea. And my surgeon's response when I told her I was worried about taking medication "you cannot overdose on Zofran" lol! So I was good with that. I was taking 2 every 4-6 hours and nausea went away 100% -
Did anyone get in all of their fluids and protein the first week?
jesswls replied to ChavaBling's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks sleeversue. I discovered it was a horrible build up of the protein shake I was using. I managed to get it off and switched to isopure. Wow what we go through! -

I am 5 days post op and yesterday was the first day I could get more than 20 0z. In. I got about 40 0z. Of water flavored with Crystal Light as well as about 12 0z. Protein shake. I am finding that I have a horrible white film on my tongue. Has any one else experienced this? It doesn't brush off either. -
I keep having to remind myself this as well. I am only 5 days post op and find myself questioning why I feel like crap half the time. Duh! I just had major surgery. I've been laying low and resting as much as possible. That's hard for me to do but in order to heal well we all need to. I'm finding it very hard to get in all my fluids and protein shake. They wanted me to get in 64 oz of water a day but most I could get in was about 40. I also have a lot of soreness underneath my larger incision where the old stomach was pulled from and have a hard time moving around as a result. I'm hoping when I am off this 1 week liquid diet I will start to have more energy.

Still on a slow recovery. Today I can finally stomach my vitamins. I already got in 8 oz. of water (only been up for 2 hours) and am shooting for 64 total for day. Incision pain isn't too bad except on right side where I hurt myself from dry heaving so much. I'm only about 3 lbs down since day of surgery. 13 is a lot! I gained about 6 right after while in hospital I believe from fluids. But that went away fast. I am also feeling a bit light headed and dizzy I think it's from not taking in enough water first couple of days. But I think I am good on that now. I'm looking forward to continuing to improve. I'm still very tired but I think once I start eating more that will improve as well.

Woops. Accidentally hit send. I am very nauseated and my temp is 99.6. Little worried. I keep dry heaving and it is extremely painful in my incision areas. So far this has been miserable. I keep hearing it gets better but I'm ready to start feeling better!

So I just got home and I am extremely nasueated

Hello. I am having a more difficult time than I anticipated. Honestly I think it's more the nausea from the pain med so I have eased back. I get gassy and the burps really hurt coming up. Sorry tmi. My nurse has been amazing so that helps. Going to try to sleep without the pain meds and see how I feel when I wake up. I can't believe this day actually came!

Hello. I am having my surgery tomorrow as well (may 21) having a rough time with the bowel prep I had to do today but all worth it. I hope everyone has a smooth, successful surgery.

Thanks for the input. My surgeon just says that either one would be ok for me. I wish she would just tell me which one she thinks would be best and I would go with that seeing as how the scales are pretty even for me. I need a tipper!

Hello everyone. I am pre op kaiser as well. But the kaiser here (nor-cal) does it differently. We only had to attend an orientation class, a psych eval, and then have a 1 on 1 with the surgeon and dietician (which was the next day for me) then the surgeon tells you how much to lose before surgery (15 lbs in my case) then when you are 5 pounds away from goal you can schedule the surgery. I've never heard of "options" classes.. Are they mandatory or your choice?
