Helpful apps you use and like.
fezik23 replied to une nouvelle vie's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I use Pacer to record my steps. It automatically syncs with MFP and you get a good snapshot of how your walking can affect your food needs. -
I have considers it but haven't done it. My concern is the protein. Without dairy it's quite a challenge. Good luck.

Working out the sleeve
fezik23 replied to Unhappysleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think I know what you mean. I had a hard time adjusting. But I learned to pay close attention to what my sleeve was trying to tell me. I had to learn to ask myself whether I felt genuine hunger vs "I feel like eating something." I definitely had to learn to tell the difference between hunger and a little acidy-feeling. I am 6 weeks out and I think I started to get it about 10 days ago or so. -
I was told that the protein bars aren't as readily absorbed as the shakes, so you don't get the same quality of nutrition. But who knows?

Sorry, I forgot to respond. The pain was not bad at all. Just discomfort, really. Don't worry too much about it or work yourself up. The thing is, it's a natural instinct not to want to get up and move around because of the discomfort, but it definitely helped me. I only stayed in the hospital about 36 hours, and I'm a lot older than you are.

Good luck to you!

Wow! My Fitmess Pal just blew my mind

Yes, it's a useful app. I just think the name is so corny! -
My surgeon ok'd me to take my tegretol once I got home. They are about the size of an aspirin tablet. I had no problems, but I was a bit nervous at first.

I think it would be helpful if this were broken out into two forums, one for the already-athletic (those who run half-marathons and are at their goal, for instance) and those who are just starting out. It's a bit intimidating for me, a newbie with a long way to go (plus knee problems) to read what the "pros" are doing. Just a thought.
-
Are you just learning to live with the knees? I find some days are easier aka less painful.
-
I was dying for something more substantial. I got a quart of egg drop soup, doctored it up with some tofu and crushed red pepper and whirled it in the ninja.
-
Well I have no such aspirations, since I have knee problems that can't be addressed until I am close to goal. I find it discouraging to read.

Just like a pro football player thanking god for a touchdown. It's silly and illogical, and if there were such a god, would he have nothing better to do than deliver touchdowns (or Oscars, etc.)?

I had my surgery in June, but I would be happy to buddy up and maybe I can answer some of the immediate post op questions. Meanwhile, be patient and the process will unfold!

At 6 weeks post, how much was your loss total?
fezik23 replied to mi75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be at 6 weeks on Wednesday. I have lost a total of 27.5. -
I jusst want to share this info. It's not "commercial." It's an internet course on mindful eating, presented by Jan Chozen Bays, who is a very well-regarded teacher. I think I am going to try it, as I still have trouble with changing my eating behavior. It's not very expensive. http://www.shambhala.com/mindfuleatingcourse?utm_source=bronto&utm_medium=email&utm_term=LEARN+MORE&utm_content=Mindful+Eating%3A+An+Online+Course+with+Jan+Chozen+Bays&utm_campaign=Mindful+Eating+Course+1d

I was sleeved on a Wednesday and took a total of right working days off. I could have gone back sooner, I'm sure. But I was definitely tired at the end of the day and I would come home and rest until bedtime. That must have lasted about another week.
-
I took. Total of eight days off. I was fine, but I also have a desk job. Yes, I was tired, but I would have been completely bored at home.

June 2014 Sleevers Check In!
fezik23 replied to SnohoGal98296's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is my first post on this thread. I was sleeved June 25th. I am down a total of 27 lbs. I use my fitness pal, walk or ride my stationary bike, get my water and protein in per guidelines. So it's comforting to me, in a way, that I am not the only one losing so slowly. When I saw my surgeon for my three geek visit, he told me he wants me to be at 190 by my three month visit. If only! I'm at 211 today. I can't imagine losing 21 lbs in six weeks. One can only hope, I suppose. -
I'm eating when I'm not supposed to!
fezik23 replied to LaydeeK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just posted earlier today that after almost six weeks I finally feel like I'm "getting it". It takes time to understand the ins and outs of the sleeve. And it does soundalike you're struggling with the huge adjustment, psychologically. Believe me, you're not alone. -
I think I am finally getting the hang of this
fezik23 posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am 6 weeks post op and have lost 27 lbs approx. I have been struggling with the sleeve and its moods. Somehow something has clicked and I now feel like I understand what it's trying to say. Yay! This is such a relief. It has boosted my confidence and my belief that this life change is going to work for me. That's my success story at the moment. -
I had the same experience. I have lost 27 lbs in about 6 weeks and almost all of my clothes still fit. I am waiting to need smaller clothes!

I eat iIndian food all the time, at 6 weeks post op. I always eat spicy food. When I was on Clear liquids I made broth with (Chinese) hot oil. When I asked my doc, pre op, if I would be able to eat Indian food (He is Indian.) he said, "People in India have this surgery all the time." That was funny and made me feel better.

When is safe to drive?
fezik23 replied to brendaliz_r's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You have to be off all narcotics or sedating medication.
