That stinks about the surgery, but please take care. 12 weeks! I'd go stir crazy. -

I'll be looking forward to hearing about it. And I love "Fezi". Lol -
I was told to eat three meals and two snacks. Will that work?

Since I've lost this initial weight--about 27 lb. --I've been having a lot of muscle soreness in my back. I do exercise, including light strength training. I have a 2 year old mattress that was fine pre surgery. But I've been pretty uncomfortable and it's actually getting worse. At first I thought it was my desk chair at work, but it's Saturday and it's still a problem. So I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this, or if it might be my body and muscles having to readjust to this change? I always visualize my weight loss in terms of 5lb bags of potatoes. And I have dropped 5+ of them. Any thoughts? PS I had one massage post surgery and have groupons for two more.

Happy for you! -
I don't like pain killers at all. Nevertheless I had IV morphine in the hospital, via a pump so I could self administer as needed. I would guess that I used it about 5 times over the first 10 hours. I was sent home with liquid Tylenol #3, which I used maybe twice. I still have a huge bottle that I should just dump.

Why can only 50-70% of excess weight be lost?
fezik23 replied to BarnGirlWK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's an average. I asked the same question to my surgeon. That number counts everyone, including those who never take the surgery seriously and who lose virtual nothing. -
My post-op manual does list Milk of Magnesia as an option, but I would prefer something a little slower acting.

how often do you weigh yourself?
fezik23 replied to Mattiexcore's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I weigh daily, same time. I keep a spreadsheet with my numbers. I need to be able to see and track. -
I just want to congratulate you for being accountable to yourself. It's not easy.

Vitamins making me hungry

I take my multivitamin at bedtime. Just a thought. -

By the way, I have no regrets except for wishing I had done this a long time ago. Best to you, whatever you decide. -
Getting cold feet about my surgery on Tuesday!

I'm eight weeks out. A half cup is more than enough for me. My dietician and surgeon are telling me that one cup per meal will ultimately be the most I will eat, down the road. -
I am about 8 weeks out. I think it was hard at first to tell hunger from other feelings. For me there was another feeling that I could easily mistake for hunger. I deduced that it was a very mildly acidic sensation. I was already taking a ppi in the morning. I added Zantac before bed and it has improved a lot. But the most important thing has been to really, really pay attention to the feelings and not automatically assume I was hungry.

How much calcium were you told to take?
fezik23 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just that question. I was told 1200 mg/day in divided doses. I'm wondering about what kind of instructions others have received. -
I only get hiccups when my sleeve is FULL. It's telling me not to eat another bite. Could this be what's happening to you?

What to expect pre-op appt
fezik23 replied to jmart65620's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is how mine went: The surgeon reviewed my current state of health and my history, such as any previous surgeries, my highest weight, etc. He was primarily looking at risk factors for surgery. He had me lie down and looked at my upper abs. He reviewed my current meds. He then went over the risks with me to make sure I understood and was willing to undertake the whole journey and not just the surgery. Then he told his staff to give me a surgery date. Pretty simple. I suppose if you have other risk factors you would be sent to have them checked out. After I got the surgery date he told me to see my pcp for medical clearance, and he gave me a lab slip for chest x-ray, check for H pylori, and EKG. -
I was raised in the clean-plate club, more because my parents didn't have any extra money to waste. It was a big no-no to throw food away. My dear beloved father even used to drink the brine from pickle juice and things like that. Nothing was thrown out. I call it "thrift eating." I have carried that behavior into adulthood, doing things like cleaning my kids' plates if they didn't want to finish. Now I can't do any of that any more. And I am finding it liberating. I am done--my sleeve says so--and what I don't finish is tossed out. Who knew this could be fun? I suppose I could save leftovers, but who wants to eat a little piece of turkey burger or whatever? I'm not saying I throw everything away. But it's a lovely feeling to be free of the guilt of tossing what is left on my plate.
