    Hungry Girl cookbooks

Four years?! Omg! The answer to the question is that you can choose from any recipes that help you toward your goal. I choose recipes that are high in Protein, and secondarily with as much Fiber as possible from plants/veggies. I don't have those cookbooks, but I'm sure there are recipes that will work. Btw, I didn't know she had recipes for one. I may have to look into that.

    You look beautiful to me.

    100 lbs. lost!

    Congratulations!! Happy for you!
  4. I'm ten weeks out. I am getting my Protein and Water and exercise. I eat about 700-800 calories/day. I kept thinking my exhaustion was due to the reduced calories but I'm beginning to wonder. I'm not diabetic but I take synthroid as I have no thyroid. My TSH was just tested. Any thoughts? Anybody else?

    I'm so tired

    Thanks everyone.
  6. I thought I had a strong online support group through a daily thread on the weight watchers website. We checked in every day for about ten years. We even took vacations together. Then all of a sudden it's fallen apart. And since I am the only one of the group who had wls, I am the odd person out. So I'm looking to connect with some folks, or even one FOLK, for support and maybe some fun. I don't care if we have a lot in common. I'm 59, had my surgery in June, after a lifetime of dieting. I've been married for 35 years. I have three grown sons, all of whom still live at home. I call them Moe, Larry, and Curley. I am the director of a drug/alcohol treatment program in eastern PA. I've been doing counseling of one kind or another for over 30 years. I am a Buddhist. I currently have one crazy Akita named Finn.

Looking for a buddy or three

Nancy, somehow I missed your reply. I will try to add you. Are you on myfitnesspal? My name there is the same, fezik23.
  8. I definitely get impatient with the rate of my weight loss. I try to remember that I'm 59 years old and have been on synthroid since my thyroid was irradiated years ago (due to uncontrollable Graves Disease.) It has become clear that any white carbs cause me not only to stall, but to actually see a slight gain. However, the reason I chose to post as a success story is that I did the math today and in 2 months I am more than 1/3 of the way to my goal. Now that seems like something to crow about!
  9. Carol1560, I had Graves' disease as well. Eventually I had my thyroid irradiated to kill it. My synthroid dose has been all over the place, but especially since surgery 10 weeks ago. I'm down to 125mcg and I'm feeling really fatigued with low energy. I am thinking another visit to the doc is in order. I had my tsh done about ten days ago and it was low normal.

    itching around incisions

Mine still itch, ten weeks out and nothing seems to help.
  11. Good for you! It takes courage to change.

How do you feed your soul?

I feed my spirit by not taking the easy way out, not being lazy, pushing myself, taking on new challenges and being disciplined. Those things make me prouder to look myself in the eye.

    Struggling with excercise

I am doing mostly walking, too. Between my 9 hour work day and 2 hours of commuting time, it's a challenge. I don't do it every single day. But any lunch hour is now a walking hour. If it's raining my new thing is body weight exercise in my office. I am fortunate to have a private office and I can shut the door.
  14. I found you guys! I get lost on this site sometimes, and it depends on whether I'm on my phone, ipad or computer. I just posted today that my NSV was doing my own pedicure. Not great, but done. I have a lot of arthritis in my left knee, so that foot is hard to do. Lindalue, when is your surgery scheduled?

    Retro Fitness or Planet Fitness?

Have you gone to check them out? I strongly recommend you take a tour. I can't speak to those specific gyms but you really get a feel for things if you go. How crowded? How loud? And if you do go, choose a time of day that you would normally be going.
  16. My first meeting with the surgeon was a non-event. He asked a little about my weight history and medical history. He told me the risks of surgery and what it could do. He felt around my upper abdomen/liver area. And he gave me a surgery date!

    Stomach Growling

I am two months out and my stomach is pretty damn noisy.
  18. I can sit in half lotus position to meditate. I can walk my normal lunchtime walk in ten minutes less time. I can bend over and still breathe normally.
  19. I'M past eight weeks post op. My incisions still itch a lot. They are reddish at the edges. Anyone else?
  20. According to calculators of basal metabolic rate, I should need between 1800-2000 calories per day to maintain. I am eating about 700. This does not include any exercise in the calculation. So I figure it this way: To maintain my stall I should be eating about about 13,000 calories per week. I am eating about 5600 per week. To lose one pound you need a calorie deficit of 3500 calories, and I have a calorie deficit of twice that, which means I should be losing about two lbs/week. I am not losing. However, doing the math was a bit helpful because it tells me this should change eventually, and even more so since I am burning extra calories with cardio.

    my calculations

The whole point of my post was to say I am relaxed and not worrying about losing!
  22. I have never liked water and like it even less since surgery. I finally came up with my solution. Decaffeinated chai. I make a 24 oz cup from one teabag and add I tsp. sugar. (I was told that beverages must be 10 cal. Or less per serving.)

    Does everyone need plastics

I work closely with two women who have had RNY and lost well over 140 lbs. One of them was the inspiration for me to have surgery. Neither of them has had any PS. So it's definitely not universal. They both look great, and one is young and the other is older than me. (I'm 59.)

    Help please...back and forth

I don't know...there was a moment when the light went on for me and I knew I would never give another penny to any "weight loss program" (e.g. weight watchers, slim fast, etc.) I have spent so much money, time and effort over many years with no success. For me, time to stop beating a dead horse. Or, you know, the definition of insanity--doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
