  1. I was also told to right away work up to 30 minutes and then go beyond that as you feel better. By 1 week I was walking 1.5 miles a day and I'm now 2 weeks post op and walk 2.5 miles a day or do 45 min on elliptical. Also exercise physiologist said I could do seated arm weight lifting with light weights.
  2. I know for a fact there is a lot of nutritional info that I do know better than my NUT. I've asked many questions that she looks at me cross eyed when I ask and I can tell doesn't have an answer for and isn't educated about. The NUT's at my weight loss facility are very singularly focused on the center's pre set weight loss plan and schedule which for convenience and financial gain includes a lot of the supplements they sell which are full of preservatives, artificial colorings, flavorings, and sweeteners. I so agree that counting carbs post op shouldn't be necessary. Unless of course you aren't doing what you're supposed to be and eating sweets and junk food. Then you have bigger problems than carbs. I know someone posted you don't need any carbs in a day, but people please do your research about that! The process of converting only Proteins to glucose for your body, and being in ketosis all the time come at price to your body, your brain, you kidneys, muscles, lots of things. Look up the long term effect of high Protein, low carb diets, it's very clear. Our bodies were designed to eat a balanced diet. I'm sure we threw that balance off with bad eating habits or we wouldn't have needed WLS, but this is a chance to do over and do it right. I'm thinking of this as a chance to finally be done with fad and extreme diets and very low carb is one of them.
  3. i also often feel like i have a bad taste in my mouth, and my mouth is always dry no matter how much fluids i drink.
  4. I was sleeved May 6. I have only lost 1lb in the last 4 or 5 days. Must be the time when bodies take a break from the initial loss. I'm hoping when the scale moves again it will show a big loss or move quickly, Seems hard to believe with eating so little and exercising all these days that there isn't some lost weight waiting to happen! I start pureed tomorrow- looking forward to that. What kind of pureed things have people been trying? How much are you able to eat at one time?
  5. I'm a may 6'er. I've lost 20lbs and feel great. I'm pain free, walking several miles a day and doing my elliptical. I don't start my puree stage until Wed when I go to my 2wk NUT class, so still full liquids. Looking very forward to eating some food! I had a large hernia repair also and was painful for the first 5 days and woke up on day 6 with markedly less pain and 2 days later practically no pain. Amazing how the body heals. The scale has been amazing to watch because I gained 10 pounds of Fluid in the hospital which was the amount I had lost on my pre op, so I can home May 8 and weighed what I had started at and lost the 20lbs in 10 days. So what are people's favorite pureed stuff to eat?

    Too many carbs?

My Dr also said don't worry about carbs.

    4 days post op

A diuretic effect has nothing to do with the bowels-has to do with Fluid level in your body, and if you google Protein and diuretic together you will see that a high protein diet does have a diuretic effect. The high protein content of the drink probably off sets the water/milk you add to some degree so some Dr. choose to not count that toward your fluid goal. The point I was making in my previous post was just that everyone shouldn't assume that their fluids mixed with protein count toward their fluid goal, not all Dr/NUT do it that way, and people should follow their dr's instructions.

    4 days post op

My Dr doesn't count liquids from protein products in my daily fluid goal. He said they have a slight diuretic effect so I have 64oz of fluids and a separate 60gm of protein.

    Protein Goals

My doctor office has a store I bought mine from, but you can just go to Unjury website and order. They actually have advertisements all over this website, so you can just click on their website that way too.

    Protein Goals

I like the unjury chicken broth. It's 21gm of protein for 8oz cup of broth, and I sometimes substitute some or all of the water for soy milk and that's makes it more of a cream soup type of thing and increases the protein even more.
  11. I had drastic reduction of pain and swollen feeling on day 6 and now I'm day 8 and have very little discomfort. I too was concerned about the low calories and my NUT told me to add some lactose free milk (soy, lactaid, etc) to my supplements instead of Water or use regular versions of drinks instead of low sugar. Like regular carnation Breakfast instead of the no sugar added. I like the choc Core Power drinks and I dilute with soy milk-adds extra Protein and calories and tastes great because they are VERY chocolatey to start with. She said you find what amount of calories feels good to you-so you have energy and aren't light headed. I figured a healing body had to need more calories than the 300-350 I was getting, even though I was getting enough protein.
  12. Hi, I'll be 1 week post op tomorrow and I've been feeling light headed at times even though I'm able to get my fluid and protein requirements in. My question is how many calories do people estimate they took in the first couple weeks post op? I estimate about 350 most days and this seems so low considering I'm walking also. I don't really want to add a lot more protein than recommended. My Dr said don't worry about carbs just get your protein in, so I wonder about some higher calorie protein drinks, but they would probably have more sugars. I can only have full liquids right now-no yogurt or anything. Just seems like especially for a healing body I should be taking in at least 600 calories or so.
  13. Emarie-were your 650 calories all from protein drinks? How much protein did you get in then?

    Surgery 5/6/2014

I was sleeved on May 6 and I have the same thing with always feeling like there is air bubbles fighting against the fluids I'm drinking, but I'm getting it down anyway. Practically a full time job! I'm also trying to walk as much as possible without over doing it.
  15. mrsmiller-I am 5 days post op and also am still quite painful. I also had hernia repair, and can feel that right in middle of my chest, especially when I take deep breaths. Also quite painful when I burp. Can't imagine trying to put bra on just yet. Hopefully you have been able to get your fluids/proteins in. I think we are on track-just healing. Did your doctor prescribe any muscle relaxers? Mine prescribed Valium and I think that does help relax those muscles and helps with pain. I use it sparingly though because it makes me tired.

    May 6th sleeve

Hi fellow may 6er's. Happy mother's day to all the moms. Great gift we gave ourselves and our families getting this done-even if it doesn't feel like it right now! Liquids going down easier everyday. Anyone else have more pain in the last day or two than the first couple days, especially on side of large incision?
  17. I'm a may 6'er and I'm doing well. Had a large hernia fixed also. Stayed 2 nights in hospital. It's a full time job getting fluids/protein in, but it's going okay. I can tell today fluids are going better than yesterday. Hope to get my fluids and Protein goals in today. I got up early and moved to the couch and got started sipping and taking pills and Vitamins. I feel like I have to burp a lot even though I take chewable gas-x. Hopefully that subsides soon.

    May 6th sleeve

My doctor prescribed Levsin for esophageal spasms and valium for muscle spasms and that really seems to make drinks go down a little better without so much gas resistance. I think it opens up and relaxes that tight hernia repair he did. Anyone else bloated up from hospital fluids? My feet look like twice their normal size and i can't get my wedding ring back on yet! I'm up 9 lbs from the day i went in, they told me not weigh because of that, but i did anyway. Good luck to everyone, i think we will feel so much better once we get past these first 2 weeks. I'm putting a calendar on my fridge and marking down the days till my 2 week appt, at which time i hope to have lost weight, feel better, be able to get all my drinks/water in daily, and can add some soft foods.Have a great day new sleevers!

    May 6th sleeve

I was sleeved May 6 and came home today. Feeling okay, I also had a large hiatal hernia repair so when I take a sip it feels like a big burp sitting there that needs to come up. Looking forward to getting thru these first couple weeks, so i can add some different foods and discomfort will be gone away. Glad to hear people came thru surgery okay,

    May 6th sleeve

tomorrow is the big day! good luck to all May 6 sleevers- lets update when we can.
  23. The group of weight loss Dr's at the office i go to won't do lap band anymore either. It's not because they want to do a more expensive surgery on people either. They want what's best for their patients and the problems they've had with lapbands and the long term results made them decide that wasn't a good option for their patients.

    $600 Bariatric Program Fee

The program fee where i go is $750. The center i go to has extensive follow up programing with nutritionists, exercise physiologists, behaviorists, and support groups. You are scheduled for appts with these people at regular intervals thru out your first year post op and then as needed after. They find patients do so much better with this support in place and the money is pre payment for all those appointments. They used to do a pay as you go set up, but people were not as likely to make/keep their appointments, so they decided to collect up front in the hopes people will comply better. Thankfully my insurance company has something worked out with them, so my fee is included in package insurance company pays them!

    2 days post op

You mentioned your protein shakes seem to make gas worse-are they lactose free? My Dr says lactose free for the first 2 weeks because the enzyme that digests lactose stops getting produced for a short time post op.
