    June 2014 Sleevers Check In!

My surgery was 6/25 and was much easier than I had imagined. Gas discomfort is still around but it's slowly subsiding. Biggest challenge for me is the pill crushing. No matter what I mix the pills with, it's God awful. I'm hoping not to take any pain meds after today.. That will eliminate the pill crushing since I bought liquid calcium and sublingual b-12, so that's a breeze. I'm on a liquid diet for the first week and then to stage II, I can't wait.

    June 25th

Had my procedure on the 25th and going home today. I feel remarkably better than i thought. My gas was the biggest issue and thankfully it started to pass last night. I have walked a lot while in the hospital as they recommended. Swallowing is good and my stomach is handling the liquids with minimal ache. Not hungry, never thought I'd say that!! A bit nervous about leaving here and going home but they keep saying how great I'm doing so that helps my confidence. So glad i have the surgery over with and starting my new way of life!!

Need help with what to tell work.

I initially told my boss I was having elective surgery. She did not question the procedure until I began the pre-op phase and noticed my weight loss. She asked if I was ok and I ended up telling her. Since I don't know the real recovery time, I put in for 5 days and wanted her to know it could be a few more if needed. Since she is a nurse, she understood and I'm glad I did not have to continue the secrecy. There's enough to be anxious about, I didn't want to continue to add to it..My surgery is 6/25 and I'm starting to have those pre-op doubts but my will is winning out. See you on the post-op side!!!
  4. You look fabulous!! I'm sure you must feel south better too, which is the most important thing!!

    That's cheating!

Don't let anyone discourage you. I work with someone who is very heavy but had lost 50 lbs on weight watchers and she gives me the same vibe. I hate to tell her that her lost weight will return but mine won't. That gives me the motivation to be successful for life.
  6. I' scheduled for the 25th. Been on the pre-op diet for two weeks even though my BMI dictated only one week. I feel great, energy level up, sleeping well and totally ready for my new lifestyle. I started experimenting with protein drinks weeks ago and found a few that i like so i don't anticipate having a problem after surgery. I'm sure the day before I will have some pre-surgery jitters but i feel like this 6 month process has been endless and i just want to move forward. Good luck to everyone!!

    Gastritis and H pylori

I had the bacteria as well. I took antibiotics for 10 days and went back and had to do a breathing test. No big deal at all. The dr told me that almost 80% of the population has it and the don't even know.
  8. One of the best thing I've tried is Chike coffee flavored protein powder....mixed with water and ice, it's just like having a refreshing iced coffee...they also make a peanut butter flavored protein powder you can mix with water to make a smooth peanut butter or mix in a chocolate drink...
  9. Actually, Chike has a coffee protein powder that is the best thing I've tried so far. I also just ordered thie sampler pack but they seem to be limited on flavors offered.
  10. I am currently 245lbs and 5-3 and am scheduled for surgery on 6/25. I have used the last few months to change some of my poor eating habits but have only lost about 6 lbs. I am 58 years old and am more convinced that this type of surgery is the only way I will ever be able to lose the 75 lbs I want to lose and keep it off. I have been the smallest of all the people in my nutritionist or surgeon's office but I believe that each individual has their own ideal weight where they look and feel at their optima. I don't care about what some chart tells me, no one knows their body better than themselves. I am tired of people telling me, "you should be able to lose this weight without having this drastic surgery". However, over the past 20 years, I have not been able to lose more than 20 lbs and keep it off. So, my decision was supported by my surgeon and my husband who has watched me battle this demon since he met me. I don't care about a little discomfort or being deprived for a few weeks since I've been dealing with discomfort for a lot longer not having the surgery. I only wish I didn't' have to wait until the end of June. Best wishes to you and please keep posting about your progress.

    Any April Sleevers?

Glad you are doing so well...thanks for sharing your experience. It has helped reassure me that I am doing the right thing!!
  12. Very simple procedure...no need to worry...
  13. I have to check with the nutritionist but I love pure protein shake from trader joe's. They have 1 that's 35 grams of protein and another that's 21 grams...chocolate & vanilla and they are liquids sold in an 11oz can. Tastes really good too.
  14. I have more than 2 months to go before surgery so I'm experimenting. My favorite is the Orange Creme powder mixed with orange crystal light. Add a few ice cubes and shake. I have been having it twice a day.
  15. Started this journey in January with the thought of getting the band, but have decided to get the sleeve instead. During this time I have gotten all my clearances (pending stress test) and am continuing with the nutrionist. They gave me a 1500 calorie a day diet but really haven't mentioned losing a percentage of weight to shrink fatty liver. I have only lost 5 lbs so far (taking liberties as usual) but now I'm concerned after reading other posts. My goal is to lose 75 lbs through the whole process. I weigh 245 and don't want to go under 170, even though on paper my "target weight" shows I should be 145...I haven' been that weight since before high school (I'm 58) so I feel I am being realistic in my goal weight. If people are losing 60-70 pounds pre-op, why not just continue and not have the surgery? I know the surgery will help keep the weight off, but I am having the surgery because I can't seem to lose more than 20lbs regardless of what program I am on. If I could lose 50 lbs pre-op, I don't think I would have the procedure. Any thoughts?
  16. I am about to have the sleeve procedure in June and have been going through all the pre-op clearances. I am 58 and though on paper I could lose 100 lbs, my goal is 75. I opted vs. The band since I don't believe I will like the maintenance visits that are required. I would love to check out your blog from the first year but did not see the link on your post. Could you kindly repost it? I would be very appreciative!! I am currently not experienced diabetes or high blood pressure but I wanted to drop this weight before I do. Any support would be welcomed....thank you!
