Cheap high protein meal ideas?
cookie2014 replied to kassy07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So you didn't say how far out you are post op but if you're in phase 2 ( soft foods) then how about making a chili with ground turkey or chicken; meatballs; pigs in a blanket; lentil soup; scrambled eggs ; yogurts are all great protein choices in addition to your protein shakes There's also a forum here on recipes that might be helpful to you. I recently I purchased a spiralizer from Walmart that makes. Pasta out of zucchini. Just add Your own sauce,. It's so great and easy to use. There's also a Pinterest site dedicated to recipes using the spiralizer. -
I am 12 days post op and was so excited to learn about the spiralizers that are on the market today! You can make beautiful pasta out of zucchini and dress it with your own sauce. There are several styles to choose from ... Have fun! I can't wait to try some recipes in a few weeks!

Yes Punkin , please check with your NUT! I am 2weeks out today and am expected to attempt 45-50 gms of protein each day. I have been on liquids and today I can start trying a tablespoon or two of semi soft food( preferably high in protein )as well . Cottage cheese, yogurt , or scrambled egg. After by pass you want to be careful not to stretch your pouch and you want to avoid dumping. As you can see from all the responses , every follows a different regime. It's very important at this time to follow up with your NUT!

I feel your pain! I used some smaller pillows under my belly for additional support. Try increasing your walking to help ease the passing of gas. Just keep drinking and drinking! -

Jamie , My MD advised me to remain on liquids until my 2 week post op check. I Was also told that during this time that if I could get 35 gms of protein in, that this would be sufficient. So I am drinking water, Gatorade ( G2), milk, protein shake with 10 oz of skim milk, soups( heart healthy and low sodium) e.g cream of mushroom soup with the soup strained for any pieces and I can have one cup of coffee in the morning. I am typically taking in 2500 cc per day but nothing semi soft/ or formed. This might be why you are not able to get in all the liquids. Hope this helps. -

Not bad at all! They will give you a pump so you can hit the button to self medicate. They remove that usually sometime the next day and start. You on oral meds (liquids). Hope that helps! They will also send you home with a pain med that's a liquid as well. I took mine twice when I got home and that was it! Good luck! -

Jolene, I am using bariatric advantage high protein meal replacement. I got a vanilla base so that later on I could add any other fruit to it. For now, I am adding Hershey's cocoa unsweetened powder. Also the nutrionist recommended to only use 1 scoop of the protein powder immediately post op in 8 oz of skim milk and I add 1 tsp of the cocoa powder. They felt that using 2 scoops would be too thick! I hope you feel better soon!! Take care and get some rest. -

Love the after 50 rule Magellan! Especially after this surgery . Happy that you are pain free. My suggestion would be to walk around in an effort to pass gas and see if your little baseball fades away . Keep up the great work . And keep us up with your progress! -

Congrats on going home safely! Big steps is now behind you. The bloating is normal .. To get rid of it , it helps to walk around the house or yard so that you can start passing gas! The fluids are manageable. Y ou can do it just remember how far you've come. You need to flush out those ketones that you are producing as you burn up fat. The fluids will help to keep you energized and will flush those ketones out of your system. You'll be great! Let us know how you are doing! Good luck! -

Remember that you need to drink the recommended fluids to flush out those ketones . That is definitely contributing to your fatigue.
