Hi everyone!!! SO happy to see we have established such a great group of people on this thread!!! June will be here in 2 days - can you believe it?? Our lives are going to be changing drastically THIS MONTH. How exciting!!!! Today I have a pre-op appointment for my Endoscopy which is scheduled June 6th. *Did anyone else have an endoscopy pre-op? June 9th I have my one and only meeting with the nutritionist. I have until June 13th to knock off my last 3 lbs required by insurance. I CAN DO IT! On my home scale I weighed in at 228.6 this morning. Typically I have noticed I weigh about 2 lbs more at the doctors. *Anyone else see this? June 16th I have bloodwork. and June 30th is THE day! AHHHHH I look forward to having everyone update as they get closer, right up until the minute we go in, and every day afterwards! We all need to support each other and reading everyone's stories has been so comforting - we are NOT alone on this journey.

@@cutiepieinchi I too have to give myself the injections for 2 weeks post surgery. The reasoning my surgeon gave me for it being 2 weeks instead of 1 is because I have the Mirena IUD.

Give your opinion to tell or not
m_rose replied to New Me 787's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggled with this topic too. I actually put out a similar Forum a few months back. I have decided to tell my mother, father, both stepparents, my best friend, boyfriend and 3 co-workers. That's it. I am not even telling any of my siblings because my sister is heavier than I and believes that WLS is the easy way out and so forth. I suffer from PCOS and had an ultrasound last week due to heavy bleeding and the Ultra sound tech was asking questions and such and I mentioned that when having the Bypass my GYN was going to be there to remove cysts, endometriosis, etc. The look on her face was that of pure DISGUST!!! She then said "You're going to be a twig" "There are so many complications with that" "You can't eat and drink at the same time" I was so annoyed but it made me realize why I don't tell just anyone. This is a decision for US not anyone else!!!! -
At the seminar I went to, the surgeon did mention gallbladder issues from the rapid weight loss due to WLS. He did say it was fairly common. It is even mentioned in my handbook. He doesn't prescribe anything for gallbladder issues like some of the member's surgeons do. Honestly I kinda wish they would take it out when they do my bypass. I have had 6 surgeries on my back and I really don't want to have multiple surgeries on abdominal region. Yeah this is something I am interested in asking about now..when I go for my second insurance weigh in on Friday I am going to bring it up.

I have to say I am thankful I only have a 3 day liquid diet prior to surgery and not two weeks!! More power to those who must endure that endeavor. My doctor never mentioned anything about removing my gall bladder... does any one know how common this is and the chance of having problems with the gall bladder if not removed after surgery??

So glad to see so many others in June to be in contact with! Sorry I haven't been on much! I am going away the week of May 18th - 23rd, which I am a little nervous about food wise...but I am staying in a condo with a full kitchen so I told my boyfriend we are going to be doing breakfast and lunch there for sure...I am going for my second insurance mandated weigh in the Friday before May 16th... I am the only June 30th so far??

I have my psych evaluation this Tuesday the 29th. Does anyone know what kind of questions they ask? Pretty sure they just want to make sure people are having the surgery that have eating disorder tendencies and such... Went for my first insurance weigh in on April 21st....lost 10 lbs since my initial appointment on March 20th!!! I was shocked. I high fived the nurse haha. Need to lose 3 more lbs to be at the 5% loss for insurance. A little worried because I am going on vacation to Florida May 18th - 23rd and I don't want to gain any vacation weight!!!!

My date is also June 30th!

@@consuela11 Well I went in for my first appointment on March 20th and already recieved a phone call on Monday the 24th stating my surgery date of June 30th. My insurance requires I lose 5% of my body weight to be approved. I think it varies from state to state, company to company. @@Melanie36 I hear ya there!! I feel like this is all happening so fast! It's so exciting but definitely nervewracking at the same time.

How did you go about telling your family/employer/co-workers...
m_rose posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess my overall questions are... If you have already informed your family/employer/co-workers that you were planning on gastric bypass (which is really frightening to me...)... How did you go about doing so? Were you nervous about comments people would make? (I explained it to my boyfriend like this..."A lot of people now a days do not want to tell people what names they have picked out for their babies in fear of hearing negative comments about it" SO I guess I am just nervous that people's first instinct is to say "You don't need to go through surgery!" etc, etc. Did you feel you were explaining your decision to do so a lot? Any advice for those who broke the news to the people closest to them is greatly appreciated! Thanks. -
