I'm still feeling with that. I keep pulling the internal stitch and muscles I bought a belly band and that helps a lot.

How long after surgery until you got blood work done?
itsmekarenlee replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just found out our dr does bw at 6 mos. I feel like it should be done earlier. He said it's because everything needs to get evened out after surgery and sooner than that is not accurate. -

My biggest incision, about an inch or two, to the left side of my belly button, is a big indent but bulging above the incision. It's always been that way since surgery and I've asked Dr about it twice and he said is the stitch and it will dissolve in a few weeks and it'll pop back out. Is everyone's like this?

incision bulge
itsmekarenlee replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes Pik, like that. He said about 6 wks. I'm just impatient and worried it'll stick like that. My belly looks deformed. So what did he do? Attach a stitch to my ab muscle?? Why? None of the other incisions are doing that gross indent. I picture when that stitch dissolves my belly will all of a sudden POP back out and be normal. Lol -
Low iron maybe?

Who is over the 5 year mark from surgery? 10 years? Over 10 years?

Thank you!!!! I'm going to keep this thread handy to go back to when I need it :-) -
Don't worry! It's definitely a learning experience! I learned today that swallowing too big of bites is definitely not a good thing. Ow.

Our Nut/Dr don't allow soups of any kind in liquid and puree/mushy stage. I don't think they recommend it in life long stage either as it just goes right through you and doesn't keep you full but I can't imagine never having soup again, that's just silly. Every Dr's requirements are different (which, to me, is totally frustrating!)

Familiar words some of us can relate to- from Robin Williams RIP :(
itsmekarenlee posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
"During an interview with Good Morning America, Williams explained that falling back into alcohol abuse was "very gradual." "It's the same voice thought that… you're standing at a precipice and you look down, there's a voice and it's a little quiet voice that goes, 'Jump,'" Williams told Diane Sawyer. "The same voice that goes, 'Just one.' … And the idea of just one for someone who has no tolerance for it, that's not the possibility." When asked why he relapsed, Robin answered: "It's [addiction] — not caused by anything, it's just there… It waits. It lays in wait for the time when you think, 'It's fine now, I'm OK.' Then, the next thing you know, it's not OK." Replace "alcohol" with "food". Addiction of any kind is so hard. We just have to go day by day and learn new habits and try not to think of the old. -

Alone. He's also concidered a bariatric center of excellence. Ha. I will have to call my insurance bariatric program and see if I'm allowed to change and hopefully there another bariatric dr that will take another bariatric drs patient.

I'm glad you're getting your leg checked out. Ask them about your liquid intake too. I didn't think we could dump with liquids....? If I remember right we were to drink 1-2 oz every 15 minutes. After the first week it becomes easier. I remember it hurting going down and after even drinking a tiny sip but now I can drink normally thigh I have to remember not to chug or it will feel like I swallowed a ball. There are lots of choices for Protein drinks. nectar brand is good, lots of flavors, juice and shakes. The shakes are getting too sweet though it seems and too thick. I had to be on liquids for just under two weeks. Premiere Protein Drinks, adkins protein drinks, sf flavor additives to Water, I preferred Mio, some prefer Sf Crystal light.

It's more like a "puree/mushy" stage but feel I'm ready to start solids but waiting until the 25th for our stage III orientation. After that I'm firing my bariatric dr and finding another.

Do you know what what checked? -
How do you over drink your liquids? Do you mean too fast or too much? You can't drink "too much" at this stage because that's all your doing. Lol. At least 32oz/day plus 3-4 Protein drinks is what our nut said. And I'm 3 wks out and don't get full either. I know when to stop when I feel it in my throat. I'm still learning the new feelings.

No. My Dr never even examined me. Before, right after surgery or at post op. I am not happy with him or his office even though he's supposed to be one of the top bariatric surgeons here.

I wanted the sleeve like my husband got but as soon as I told the Dr I have gerd he highly recommended a bypass and said that gerd can get worse with a sleeve. I've also read many people on her getting it revised from sleeve to rny because their Dr didn't tell them this. -
Two weeks liquids, and a freakin month for limited mushy foods from our limited strict list of foods.

Really Freaked Out
itsmekarenlee replied to DimandGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
did your Dr not give you a list of foods you're allowed to eat for stage II- Mushy foods? -
Thanks. I will and I will enjoy myself too with my son and friends because it will be the last. I am fully aware of the 'danger' of over eating at a buffet and in my original post I even said "how little we eat", implying I won't be eating that much therefore not over eating because I am not going through all of this to get skinny only to gorge myself on buffet food. I'm not that dumb. I just wanted to know, by others who have been to buffets, because there has GOT to be other people who have been to a buffet after wls for whatever reason, and how they handled it or if they showed their wls card or talked to the cashier about ordering a children's size plate and if that was allowed. I should have been more specific about that in my OP. Fortunately, I've learned since asking this question, the buffet we go to offers appetizers in which my husband and I will share one. Thank you for everyone's replies.
-
I shouldn't have to explain why. I just wanted an answer to my question, not people telling me what I should or shouldn't do. Thanks.

How are you cooking your fish Dawn? I was on liquids for 12 days and we'll be on mushy for a freakin month (until stage III orientation) unless Dr tells us we can start this Thursday wish I hope so because I know I can.
-
Yes but it has been a tradition for us to go to a buffet every year with my son's friends after band performance and prom. He can go by himself but it's his last year and they like is to go with them. I could just ask if they just serve appetizers and hubby and I can share.
