Anyone else feel like they're going to flunk the psych test/visit or is it just me? lol My friend had to take this test and gave me an example of a question. I'm SO going to flunk this. LOL! -

oh well. It is what it is. They won't even recognize me soon enough anyway. Besides, we all have doppelgangers somewhere in the world, right? -

Pre-op vets- I have a question for you

Would you recommend gradually starting the pre-op diet before the 2 wks to help with the withdrawal rather than starting it all of a sudden? -

Thanks! It's good to see someone else who started at the same weight as I am Terry. I'm 5' 6" and wrote down 150 as my goal weight because I figured I couldn't get any lower than that. Your posts are encouraging! Thank you! My weight kept at 130 all throughout High School and that was with playing softball. I was not 'overweight' back then. In Jr. High is was around 113. I wish I had an awareness of my body and how fit/good looking it was back then, maybe I would have kept it off. But that was the past and now I move forward! -
na. I'll just have to do w/o NSAIDs and hope my body aches go away

Thyroid (hypo) condition and gastric bypass anyone?
itsmekarenlee replied to bellalulu's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bellalulu, I'm curious, do you have PCOS? I do and your symptoms sounds the same (minus the female parts) -
Hi everyone Newbie here. My husband and I looked into wls last year but chickened out I guess you could say and though we could do this ourselves rather than have such a drastic surgery, which scared us. Fast forward a year and we've actually gained weight so we are buckling down and doing this. We went to an orientation with Dr. Provost in Denton, TX, signed up with the Bariatric program with my husband's work (they will reimburse us $1000 each after surgery! yay!), got the go ahead from the, got the recommendation letter from our MD, next Wednesday we see the nutritionist at Dr P's office then the following Monday we see the psych. She'll send it over to Dr P's office and then it'll be submitted to insurance and that should only take about 3 days for approval is what the nurse says. This is all happening so quickly, which is good, because I have a 3 day road trip in mid July to visit family and see my bestie, also a fellow member on here- dargar27!! I don't want to cancel it! Anyway, I have a couple (so far) of (probably stupid) questions. lol : Is it normal to go back and forth feeling like you can do it on your own rather than have the drastic, life changing, permanent, can't-go-back-on-it-once-you-have-it wls? I think we are in that stage. lol Has anyone else done this with their spouse at the same time? are NSAIDS totally out of the question?? Acetaminophen doesn't work on me (or my mom, or brother, or sister). I have all over body ache that I take ibuprofen for sometimes. I'm hoping the body ache goes away after! We have a 17 yr old son and b/g twins that are 10. We will be spending 2 nights at the hospital. We don't want to tell anyone about this, except for a select few. I would rather family not know at this point but I am kind of nervous about having our oldest be totally responsible (even though he IS very responsible) for 3 days. He drives and they can come visit us but I'm afraid he'll be too bossy with them. Hey! I know!! Maybe hubby and I will take a weekend vacation somewhere nearby as a 'trial' run! lol I think we will tell a neighbor friend though, just so they can keep an eye out IF we do our surgeries on the same day. We'll see how that works out. btw- hubby is getting a sleeve and I thought I was too, which brings me to my subject line. Our surgeon appointment was yesterday and when I told him I was interested in the sleeve as well but have GERD and a hiatal hernia he very much recommended a gastric bypass (RnY) SO, now I am researching that instead of the sleeve. My husband is not a researcher and just goes with the flow. I, on the other hand, have to know everything! He doesn't like me doing that but I don't care. I need to know what I'm getting into and how my life will be in the future. It's frustrating to me that he doesn't look things up. But then he hears everything from me so why should he, right? lol I am hoping this will get me off some meds, ie: 3 bp meds, cholesterol, GERD, anxiety, thyroid and help with PCOS. I might have to be on bp med after but maybe go down to one and on a lower dose would be good. I am following my mother's path in diabetes, high bp, obesity health, and my father's stroke/heart attack, obesity health and it scares me. I want to be around for my kids and husband and want to have energy and LIFE!!! My goal?- to RUN again! It's been 25 yrs! (ps. I talk/write a lot when I'm nervous. Sorry so long!!)

ya, that's what my understand was too. I forgot to mention that to my Dr. Well, hopefully I won't need any and hopefully my body will learn to work with Tylenol. lol Our anniversary is the 26th -

Thanks and hi! and congrats on your 15 lb loss! I edited my op to include my question about NSAIDs. I think I'm just going to have to hope that the body ache goes away after surgery. I have a feeling our surgeries will in June too! That'll be a good (albeit painful) 21 yr anniversary for us. -
I was set on the sleeve. That was before yesterday. Then I talked to the surgeon. After telling him I was thinking abut the sleeve he said that was fine, however with my GERD and hiatal hernia he quickly encouraged the bypass instead. Threw me for a loop. Now I'm having to research that! My husband will be getting a sleeve. So yes, pros and cons to both. I just want to do which ever one won't have the most trouble and not regret it!

Anyone not tell family?
itsmekarenlee replied to MIMamaof2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
UPDATE> after meeting with the surgeon for the first time today we just told our 17 yr old son. Since we are hoping to have this done at the same time (my husband and I) and will be in the hospital for 2 nights he will need to step up and be 'guardian' of our 10 yr old twins during that time. He drives so he can take them places and come visit us. This may change though and we can call my mother in law to come for a visit but I'd rather her not. It would stress me out too much. -

itsmekarenlee replied to MIMamaof2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My husband and I JUST started this process last night at orientation, though it's been on our mind's to do for a couple of years now. Actually started it last year but stopped, thinking we could just change our cooking/eating/exersizing habits. HA, ya right. Anyway, we have 3 kids, a 17 yr old son and 10 yr old twins that we haven't told yet and we won't be saying anything to any family members, unless they ask. We don't want them to worry, or keep asking us how we are doing (have you lost any weight? why not? etc...), too much pressure on us, plus, some people think it's "cheating" and judge. I already get that by a few people if I bring up our necessity for our IVF with our twins (I have PCOS). So that's the plan anyway- to not say anything. But I'm a blabbermouth so who knows. LOL!
