Trying to decide--Bypass or Sleeve?
itsmekarenlee replied to Time4Kindness's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ditto. Now my husband is set to have the sleeve and I'm wondering if it's the right choice or GB too. And then there's the Duodenal Switch that has awesome percentages compared to sleeve and GB but our Dr won't/doesn't do DS's. :::::sigh:::: -
My Dr doesn't do DS. He's one of the top Dr's here in Texas. I guess he's done a lot of study on it and doesn't feel it is a good option compared to the other wls. Curious. I know two people who just got it done with another Dr and there are many who have had revisions from one type of wls to a DS. Interesting. And confusing.

Liquid diet feeling drained.
itsmekarenlee replied to Boobear7's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
We are almost at your point (next month we hope!) but I think we'll get a head start and gradually go on our pre op diet now so it's not such a shock on our bodies. -
Surgeons in the Dallas, Plano, Frisco (Texas) areas that you love?
itsmekarenlee replied to Flutterfly19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi, I'm with Dr provost but he's in Denton. We also have UHC and Dr Nicholson is listed as in network with ours. Weird. -
Anyone not tell family?
itsmekarenlee replied to MIMamaof2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
BAH! Just told another friend. Oh wait, make that two more friends. Oh, and hubby told his mom today. LOL! I guess I'll let my mom know too! LOL I wish I could shout it out and get it over with. This 'keeping it a secret' thing is killin me. LOL But there are two people we know who have had bariatric surgery and we really don't want to hear their opinions or suggestions. They are not very good examples either. And they are know-it-alls. -
I see there are a few books out there with recipes for wls. Any recommendations? Especially if they have the different stages.

I'm reading some people have to do a sleep study, ekg, and endoscopy. If I had to do those i wouldn't be doing the surgery. They wouldn't be able to get any result from the sleep study because I will not sleep if someone is watching me. No way. Endoscopy? Really? Isn't the surgeon going to look and fix (if anything) at all that anyway while in there? Though an ekg also isn't required for us (my husband and I) per our insurance and surgeon, our MD needs to write "cleared for surgery" on his recommendation letter and that might mean he'll want to do an ekg tomorrow morning. I have much anxiety at a drs office and testing so I hope we don't have to do it. I've never had to do any if this stuff before anyof my surgery, latest one being six months ago. Sure is interesting to see everyone's different requirements.

pre op requirements
itsmekarenlee replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you. No date yet. We see the nut in an hour and psych on Monday then it goes for approval then we'll get a date. I have a 6 day road trip mid July so hopefullt the sooner the better. Had our MD appt this morning. I worried for nothing if course. Didn't do an ekg since its not required. Just did blood work which needed to be done anyway. Don't know if surgeon needs the results though. I got a new anxiety med too to take as needed. Hopefully that will help. I will probably continue to see the psych to help me fix that problem. : P -
Question for veterans re: IBS/diverticulitis/osis
itsmekarenlee posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm asking for my husband: If you had IBS or diverticulitis/osis prior to wls do you notice a change since having the wls? Better/ worse? thx -
recipe book?

Thanks! Are sleeve foods the same for bypass? -
pre op requirements
itsmekarenlee replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand. What I don't understand is why none of that was needed/done for all of my previous major surgeries. Weird. Also, if there was a problem with my heart wouldn't it show up on the leads/monitor during/after surgery six months ago? -
pre op requirements

congrats and good luck!!! -
I'm concerned I'm going to have to eat ALL THE TIME it will seem. I only eat about 1-2 meals a day now, don't snack, I just don't think about eating nor even think about it until my stomach grumbles around 3 or 4pm. I already know that's not healthy and my body is retaining fat blah blah blah but I can't help it. When I was on Weight Watchers my points were around 35 and it seemed I was constantly eating and I hated it. Am I going to have trouble with this? I was watching a youtube video of post op eating (days 1 and 2) and drinking 1 oz over a two hour time and then 2 oz over a 3 hr period of time, something like that. Sounds very tedious. Does it get easier? I'm hoping eventually I can just eat and be done with it and not take 2 hrs eating something only to have to turn around and eat again..

After surgery question about eating
itsmekarenlee replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Stupid question? How long will it take to eat something? I kind of picture myself always putting foods in my mouth, by the time I finish breakfast it'll be time for lunch with all those little bites you have to chew 50000 times. Ha -

HI...Im out in Rockwall,Tx area
itsmekarenlee replied to Seeking~Clarity's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe this will encourage you..... the coach on my daughter's volleyball team just had it done last Monday. I couldn't even tell he had surgery on Saturday. His wife had it too but it was fine on Wednesday and a revision from Lap band to sleeve and I could tell she had something done with her abdomen but didn't know what. I found out after the game. Everyone is different though. Determination plays a role too. Get up and walk as much as you can and you'll heal faster imo. -

Hi I'm near Denton, tx. My husband and I are doing this together, hopefully done next month. He's getting a sleeve, I'm.getting rny because if herd and hernia. What are you two getting/got? I'm not finding too many support groups or mentors around here. Our surgeons office has one that meets up twice a month but we missed the first one. Hopefully we'll make the next. Our dr is dr provost in Denton. -

Bah!!!! I just told someone else. . Lol -
Hi, I just signed up in March and my before picture shows that I have had 648 views! That's concerning to me! I see other's and they don't have near as many views. I don't want that many views! I can't find any settings to see if it's viewable in public out in internetland or not. I hope not! We are not making this journey public. Does that seem like too many views to you or normal for this site?

Has anyone had surger with a robot?
itsmekarenlee replied to onestepforward's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My hysterectomy last November was done by robotic laparoscopy. "off site" just might mean out of the same room you are in but in a side room, with windows, in with the "robot" machine thing. I've had that and tratitional laparoscopic surgery and I didn't notice a difference. You'll need to ask her how many she's done robotically though. It's a failry new thing and takes A LOT of practice. From what I understand for some Dr's it is easier to move the equipment inside of you robotically. Also, your body may be put in some weird positions and you may have some bruises on your body afterwards. Those are from the straps holding you in so you don't fall off the table. -
Anyone not tell family?
itsmekarenlee replied to MIMamaof2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is HARD not telling any/every body! Ok. So now a neighbor friend that I talk to quite often knows and I almost spilled it with three more today, including my mom!!! I honestly don't know what she would say but she was so critical of my brother when I told her the profession he is starting to get into (they don't talk much), so ya, I didn't say anything. It's hard because my kids and I will be visiting her, hopefully, in mid July but it all depends on when surgery is scheduled so when she asks when we'll be coming I don't know what to tell her! All she knows is that something's going on but I can't say yet. ugh -
Next up- Nutritionist and psych
itsmekarenlee replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok. So now I'm actually looking forward to seeing the psych after yesterday's big time anxiety attack. ugh I'm not even going to mention it and save that for a different visit. I need her to sign the sign the "OK" for surgery first. LOL!
