Bariatric advantage chew bites
itsmekarenlee replied to Kelly827's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are eating two Flintstone multivitamins at breakfast and two at lunch and BA caramel calcium citrite 500mg 1x/day. At least I think that's the regime. This was our first day. I better double check. Lol -
RNY - how are you feeling?
itsmekarenlee replied to Angel❤️'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, surgery was last Friday. Got home from hospital yesterday. Doing ok I guess. Trying to get down the required 60g of protein. Can barely do 30g. And water too?? Ha. Every sip hurts like I'm swallowing a big chunk of meat. Pharmacy is out of protonix until tomorrow afternoon. I'm wondering what a good soup would be that is high in protein? Broth only has 2g. Thx -

anyone else (with rny) able to take omaprezole DR capsules?
itsmekarenlee posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
That's what my bariatric surgeon is telling me to take, just like I did prior to surgery, but I am not even going to attempt to take one. It's too big. Plus it's time released which didn't make sense to me. It's not even going to be in there long enough to have any effect. My husband who got sleeved on Friday (I got rny on Friday too) was prescribed the omaprezole DR too. Don't know if it would work better for him or not. At least he can swallow it. I'm still having trouble with tiny sips of anything. I got protonix granules instead from my family dr. I'm pretty ticked at my surgeon and nurses for not having all my meds revised post op, among other reasons. This surgery has been pretty crappy. I feel like a number or our drs paycheck. -

Thx :-) But I call neglect when he refused to give me the only pain med that works for me and lied about it not being used anymore (demerol). Morphine doesnt work, I can't take hydrocodone, or the like in that family, and the tramadol hardly helps either. I know demerol works (gotit 8 month ago with my hysterectomy, plus the nurses backed me up)but the nurses couldn't get a hold of him for 9 hours after my surgery and they felt so helpless as I was in so much pain. He came in the next morning and made up another excuse about the demerol and I told him it's the only thing that works on me and that he made me suffer for that long. Not cool. That's neglect. I was getting iv protonix at the hospital. I'm hoping the granules will help. the DR omaprezole doesn't make sense to even take since it will go right through before it even opens. -

So I called surgeons office. He's doing surgeries today and I guess they can't get ahold of the nurse because the receptionist told me to ask the pharmacist. Pharmacist said not to open it. So now I have a call in to my family Dr and how he can script a liquid omaprozol if there is such a thing. I'm so frustrated with this stupid surgeon and office. We even brought in our meds last week and they should have made revisions then, not after. And plus whenever I complain about this Dr my husband gets mad. He just goes with the flow. If doc said he had to take out his perfectly good appendix I'm sure he would have said ok, whatever. Totally frustrating. Plus, every tiny swallow hurts. This is the worst surgery I've ever had, all around. -

3 days post op. I'm in the "what the F did I do to myself" stage. Pain meds don't really work on me so I pretty much just have to deal. The only pain med that does work is demerol and my Dr won't prescribe it so I have been suffering since Friday. This totally sucks. I chewed my dr out on Saturday morning for this. He made me suffer all day Friday after surgery and by not giving me what I know works with my body. The nurses, who were with me in my agony and totally helpless, praised me for doing so even. I'm just disappointed in my surgeon. I should have stuck with my gut from the first meeting and went with someone else but my husband liked this Dr. Tiny sips of water or protein drink hurt. Feels like I swallow a huge chunk of meat or something. Laying down I get the same feeling. Just trying to keep drinking the water and protein drinks. Suppose to be 1oz every 15 minutes. I have to take my omaprozol capsule but I'm scared. It's too big. All my pills are too big. At least I got to stop taking my cholesterol pill. Of course it's the smallest out of them all, go figure. In laws leave today. They kept our 10 yr old twins and 17 yr old busy while we were in the hospital. They can go home now. I just want to wallow in my uncomfortableness by myself. My kids have been great help -
What to pack to bring to the hospital for your stay during surgery

Bring a back scratcher. I get itchy from the meds and benadryl helps a little but having this back scratcher handy has been heaven. -

For those who will be having surgery soon I recommend bringing a back scratcher. It has come in handy for this itch from the medicines. -

Surgery was yesterday. Was hell. The hate my Dr. Most all pain meds don't work on me except demerol and he won't give it to me. Despite the morphine drop he put me on I was at a level 9. The nurses coupons Getty a hold of him for about 9 hours because her was "in surgeries" or whatever. I lost it. I'm calling neglect on his part and I told him so this morning. Stupid jerk. The nurses tried their best but they can't do anything and we're glad I told him off. But today has been ok.started 25mg of ultram every 6 hrs that barely lasts 4 plus diluadad pump that helps a little too. Not very much gas trouble at all. Was instructed to drink 1 oz of water or chicken broth or Apple juice every hour. I can drink it on 5 minutes though. Seems like 1 hr is a long time to drink just 1oz. Weird. Oh well. And no protein drinks our anything. I don't know. I haven't been pleased with the lack of info or organization so far. The nurses are great though. Should go home tomorrow. Hubby is having a harder time but he's not as stubborn as I am. -

Yay kristen!! I'm in gown now, been waiting for 3 hrs to go back. Anxiety is going up the longer the wait but I've got my relaxing music playing and meditation app on. My husband, mother in law and son are in her with me and they're annoying. -

Ugh. All the protein drinks are getting to me I think. I'm so bloated is uncomfortable. And hungry too. Lol. Today was day 1 of liquids only. Tomorrow is day two and then surgery the day after. It looks like mine's around 9:30 and then my husband's is around 1. I just want to pop myself right now. My anxiety level is good, except at preop yesterday. The 1mg of lorazepam didn't help much. . I am trying to condition my brain into thinking this is no big deal. Tonight the in laws came. We all went to Cracker Barrel for dinner. We drank or protein drinks, ate a couple of sugar free jellos and drank water whale they ate real delicious food. But it really wasn't that bad. I've been craving milk yesterday and today. I miss my milk. I'll sick of protein drinks and water, flavored or not. Maybe I need to try a lactose free protein drink instead of the Premier we've been drinking. I hope those taste good.... -
the joy of eating, not so much.

Dang. That's a lot of food for a 1-2 oz pouch. -
Hi vets, I'm wondering if anyone is "immune" to Tylenol, iow, it has no affect on you. What do you take for pain control? Not surgery pain but like if you have a headache or something. I will tell my Dr tomorrow at preop that it doesn't work for me but I'm just curious about what you do. Thx
-
Did you have any aches or pains during your preop, or after even? My husband has had muscle pain across his chest and upper arm (no, is not a problem with his heart) and my left shoulder joint hurts for the last couple of days. Weird

Our dr starts us with soft foods at three weeks and not more than 2 oz per meal 4-5 times per day and separate from the Protein drinks. Is that what your dr said too? 1-2 protein drinks/day 2oz of soft foods from their list, At least 4 cups of calorie free beverage and sugar free Jello, popsicle, etc. Do you just not have any interest at all with eating? That's what I'm afraid of. Forcing myself to eat on a schedule. I'm not used to that. I'm trying to though with this preop diet, though I've slacked the last couple of days. -
I'm in the same boat (my husband and I both. 7 more days!). But be proud of yourself!!!! Be strong!!! You love yourself and your family and that's why you are doing this. Let them eat their crappy garbage food but know that you are strong and CHOOSE not to! :-) hugs!

I'm at the stage where I'm second guessing. With this liver shrinkage diet I've lost 7 lbs in a week and I think, "I don't need surgery, I can do this!!" But then I have to remember I've been there, done that and now look at me. Sigh. One more week. 7 more days. This diet is getting old. I want to eat a whole box of Kraft mac and cheese. Box included. Lol! Right now my kids are going to 7-11 for free slurpees. And my beloved nachos and Starbucks coffee drink. Lil turds. . Lol -
Please tell me all details of your experience with this and how it's done. thx

Barium swallow after surgery
itsmekarenlee replied to itsmekarenlee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh good. Thanks ladies. That's one less thing I don't need to have anxiety about. I'm still trying to get my house cleaned before my stupid in laws come next week and before the carpet cleaner guy comes on Monday or Tuesday. I just don't have the motivation to do it. Had a hard time falling asleep last night (2am) because I kept thinking about this whole drastic stomach rearrangement, and if we're doing the right thing, and if we just keep eating right and excersizing then maybe we don't need to do this because we are losing weight, blah blah blah. But we've been there done that and were at the biggest we've ever been. So I just keep coming on to this site and reading positive stories and no regrets
