nausea still 6 days post op

Ok. Thx.so then I just need to work on my patience. But I still think he needs to get up and MOVE. Nausea our not. I'm worried he'll get pneumonia. He's worried about missing work.

nausea still 6 days post op

Almost bright him to ER the other night but called or surgeon first. He just said to drink more (he's drinking more than I am) and scripted another nausea med that has helped a little. I'm getting very frustrated with him though. All he does is lay around. I feel he HAS to MOVE, get up, be determined to do all this and feel better!!! He hasn't drank much today yet. Just lays there and sleeps. I just want to tell at him to get the hell up. He gets frustrated too because of the nausea but at this point I feel the nausea is because of the equilibrium from laying down most of the time. He HAS to fight through this!! Sorry, but I'm just venting. Better on her than to him. Our post op appt is this wed. And that means he has to get up, ride in the car 20 minutes and walk to the Dr office and back. After that I'm making him stay up. I've had it. We are 11 days post op now.

    whine: I want soup!

I swear my old tummy is grumbling for food. I hope that stops eventually. The hunger is not where my pouch is.

Pre-Op Diet... Why the length variances?

It's dumb, isn't it, that every Dr has their own protocol. My husband and I are on the lower bmi side and had to do a two week diet. For 12 days we had to drink at least 32oz of Water or sf flavored water, 3-4 Protein drinks and a choice of 3oz meat and choice of 1 cup cooked veggies or 2 cups raw. The last two days was liquid only. I thank God we were allowed the meal! (That protocol was for all of his patients)

PPI's, ulcers and old stomach questions

Thank you! :-) that's insightful. We see him on Wednesday and I'll ask. I know my friend got an ulcer in her old stomach and almost died so yes, I'm a bit curious what his answer is going to be.

how long did your bypass surgery take?

I have no idea. My Dr never talked to me about my surgery. :/

    NSAIDS/Anti-Inflammatory Meds

No pain meds help me, even script except demerol and he won't script it. Pretty much just suffered after surgery. I called my Dr many names. The nurses agreed with me. Your question is something to consider seriously. I'm post op now and could really use an ibuprofen. This worries me for the rest of my life, not being able to take the one thing non script that does work.

PPI's, ulcers and old stomach questions

I would be curious to hear what other drs say. My Dr would probably know but I will always question even his answers.

    anti inflammatories

I think I made a mistake doing this procedure. Tylenol doesn't work in me and neither does most of the script pain meds and the one that does work drs won't script. I'm screwed for the rest of my life now. I should have thought this over better before.

PPI's, ulcers and old stomach questions

Well, we just found out the morons at his office made all of our other appts except the two week post op. I haven't been happy and should have trusted my gut at orientation but hubby felt comfortable with him. I will call tomorrow and get an appt for late next week or early the week after. I'm starting to ask myself why the hell I did this to myself.

PPI's, ulcers and old stomach questions

Exactly. I have a friend who has a bypass and I believe she got ulcers on her former stomach and almost died. I certainly don't want that happening!

Eating Post Op after Gastric Bypass

my husband and I are 8 days post op. Our Dr's orders are 60g of Protein (2 Premiere drinks) and at least 32 oz of Water (sf flavored ok), sf Jello (haven't had any yet) and sf popsicles. broth is ok and counts as a "water" as there's not much protein. I tried Swanson's chicken broth yesterday and it was discusting. Smells like barf. I think I will make the kids my own chicken and dumplings and drink the broth from that. yum! My husband is having an aversion of the Premieres or Adkins (texture) so I have to figure out what to do about that. I think we'll try nectar protein powders with water.
  21. mine was listed as that on our insurance. Just make sure they record liquid input (excluding IV) and output. Mine didn't. We thought that was odd. Would have been nice to get a little more guidance on that before we went home. Good luck!

Not Even a Bite of Wedding Cake?

I've wondered too but I probably just wouldn't eat the frosting, just the cake. And I'd try taking a bite of cake at home before trying it elsewhere just in case.
  23. I know I can't be the ONLY person that most pain meds don't work on, right???? The only pain med that works on me is demerol. Morphine doesn't work, diludad doesn't work, acetometophen doesn't work, tramadol doesn't work, neither does fentanyl, can't take hydrocodone, ibuprofen works but can't take it anymore. My bariatric surgeon refused to script me the demerol making one lame excuse after another. (I only wanted it while in the hospital. After, in pill form, would be nice too but I usually just suffer through the pain). It was neglect on his part and the nurses agree. Took them 9 hrs after surgery to get a hold of him to try another pain med that of course also didn't work. Poor nurses felt so helpless as I was crying in pain and calling my dr all sort of not so nice names. They were awesome. I'm thankful for that. Otherwise I felt like just a number and a paycheck to my dr. After I chewed him out the next morning he left my room w/o even telling me how my surgery went, if my hiatal hernia was fixed, nothing. Not even the day of discharge did he go over anything with me except when I asked him if the huge dimple of an incision was going to go away (yes, and it is). I forgot to ask about the hernia but was left a bit surprised he didn't talk about my surgery. I walked into my husband's room while he was finishing in there talking to him. And I was pleasant with him even. Not even any acknowledgement that I was up and walking and seemed to be doing well. So now I'm getting calls from the hospital and our insurance co. for follow up and survey on how my care was and I tell them all this. I feel badly for giving him a negative review, because he is one of the top bariatric surgeons in Texas, but that's the way I feel. I will go to the follow up appt with him next week and see how he treats me, otherwise I hope I'll be able to change bariatric drs.
  24. When you had surgery did the nurses monitor your liquid drinking while you were there? Ie how much they gave you, how much you drank and how long it took you to drink it? Just curious. That never happened for my husband and I. We went in thinking it would be something that would be important for the nurses to monitor.
  25. How am I supposed to take the protonix granules if I'm not supposed to have the sugar that's in the apple juice??? So first I was afraid to take the Omaprozole capsule because it seemed too big and it did go down uncomfortably and now I'm afraid to take the protonix because of the sugar in the apple juice. I have sugar free apple sauce but worried about that hurting going down too. At the hospital the protonix was given via iv and they did give me apple juice and I drank one with no problem (i did dry heave that night though. Don't know what that was from) but the home "rules" from dr is we aren't supposed to have any juice. This sucks.
