Hi. I was banded 14/2/14. Wondering if there is anyone in the armadale area who wants to chat.
-
I downloaded an app called. Bioring gastric band. It has a pouch and meal timer. Awesome app

IM always amazed by my pre vs post op food intake. Especially when it comes to me being naughty. Like today for instance. I caved and got a cheeseburger. Normally I would have eaten 4-5. Today I barely ate 1. Has anyone else felt as shocked as me with the changes?

I'm curious to find out if any other banders have had a similar experience. I'm finding that early mornings I'm not hungry at all. As the day goes on I start getting very hungry. I also find it takes more to feel full at dinner time than it did before my fill (have only had 1 fill of 1ml). Also can u please give me any tips on foods to avoid and foods that are great at providing protein and yet are filling. I'm finding it hard to figure out a good variety of meals and snacks.

Post op Thrush. Probiotics? Help.
goosarr_sez replied to CrazyJaney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thrush is candida. Thrush is just the commonly known name for it. It's one of the most common infections around. It happens often after long term antibiotic use as the good and bad bacteria are killed off. Taking a probiotic helps restore the good bacteria. -
I just searched lapband and gastric band. There are a few groups. Most are invite only so u just request to join.

Another bandster sent me this reply. Hope it helps u too. Also I've joined a group on Facebook that shares recipes for bandsters as I'm having the same repeat food blues A lack of morning hunger hits almost everyone who has been banded. The band seems to be a little tighter in the mornings for most all of us. This leads to a little pressure on the valgus nerve which in turn provides some satiety. Most banders fall into the "Bandster Hell" phase of their journey within the first 30-60 days post op. Sounds like you're there? Bandster Hell is the time where your band is not adjusted properly and food can still travel through the stoma with little effort. You usually don't feel the satiety during this time and your hunger cravings can be enormous. The first 6 months can be a time of many changes. What satiates you now may and will change as you progress. You should eliminate the words "full" from your vocabulary as a term that identifies having eaten enough. Satiety, satiation, satisfied are terms you look for now. The band works different from other WLS techniques. The band helps us to feel less hungry with small portions of food. It's more voluntary than the sleeve or RNY. We have to pay close attention to the satiety signals such as, hiccups, yawning, runny nose, burps and of course, food on your plate is no longer appealing. Then, it's time to put the fork down. You should want to avoid the "full" feeling. If you feel full, you've probably eaten too much. You want to feel satisfied with less food and stop eating at that time. The only foods to avoid are processed foods like refined sugar, flour, fried foods and highly processed fast foods. Eating Protein food types like chicken, hamburger, seafood are a must. Vegetables are a must. High carb foods are OK in small quantities. Potatoes and rice are OK but in small quantities. Your doctor should have given you a manual or pamphlet explaining what to eat and not to eat? Good luck and look for those satiety signals. They can be very very very subtle.

Also thanks for the info on signals that it's time to put the fork down. It's something I've always struggled with as I was raised in a house where u couldn't leave the table till the plate was empty. The hiccup I've had and recognized. The others I have experienced but ignored. I will watch for them more closely now and recognize what they mean. Thanks so much

Thankyou for that. I was meant to see my NUT at 4 weeks however the earliest they could get me in is not till next week. So I have not really received any info on food guides yet. My surgeon gave me a quick run down at my first fill and told me I was fine to move to solids and that I should eat protein mostly. Basically I have been living on eggs for lunch and dinners are usually steamed veggies with either salmon cakes or chicken. It's getting very boring. I don't want to stuff this up by eating the wrong foods or by eating too much. I've waited a long time for this chance and I don't want to waste it.

Im 5weeks 5days post surgery

Firstly I have found that reheated meat has been a big no go for me. It always gets stuck. Rushing to eat is of course another thing to avoid but I had trouble with that until I downloaded an app called Bioring Gastric Band. It has a meal timer and a pouch timer. Search for it in the App Store. Since I started using it I haven't had a single stuck episode. Hope this helps

Band rules you consistently 'break'?
goosarr_sez replied to ruthpets's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be realistic about it. Yes the rules are there for a reason however it isn't the end of the world to have a slip. Yes there are consequences to everything but as long as you are aware of your weak spots and do your best to avoid triggers I don't see it as a fail. I want this so badly. I waited 4 years for it. However I have slipped. I'm not going to beat myself up over it though. -

Im wondering how long it has taken most to reach their goal weights?? I'm aiming to lose 50kg (110lbs)

How much? How long?
goosarr_sez replied to goosarr_sez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just curious to get a variety of answers. Not really looking to compare. My band was fitted 14 /feb /14. I was 129kg that morning. I'm down a little over 6kg since then. My surgeon said that was a little too fast and he would prefer a max of 1kg per week. So I was curious to see how fast others had lost. -
M really craving some peanut butter on celery. Is this something I should avoid? I have no trouble digesting it but is it something I shouldn't be eating??

Funny lunch story
goosarr_sez replied to JustWatchMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My fave thing to do during liquid stage was oxo cubes. Pop one in a coffee cup. Pour in hot water. Dissolve and drink. Stock cubes or liquid stock make great alternative. My NUT recommended them. -

Thanks. I thought I was going mad. Lol -
I have been told that just before and during menstration that eating can be more difficult. I've found I can't tolerate meat or bread during this time. I also feel full quicker. Anyone else experienced similar???

First fill was intense
goosarr_sez replied to Cassiepants's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first fill was good. Uncomfortable but not painful. My doc had me do like a half sit-up. He had to feel around a bit but now that we know where to go (just under the largest incision.) he also said that as I lose weight it will be easier to find for next time. He had to move the needle around a little before he was sure it was in the port though. That was not painful but a little more than uncomfortable. -
