My name is Robert and I'm a recent gastric sleeve patient. I had the lap band surgery in 2006 and something went wrong between 2011 and 2013, so I had the band converted to a sleeve in March of 2014. With the lap band, I was about to lose 200 lbs, 175 of which I gained back. With the sleeve, I have lost a total of 32 lbs so far. (Not for being 2 weeks out!)
I came to weight loss surgery after battling obesity for about 15 years. The life-long struggle wasn't changing, and neither were my eating habits, so I turned to the lap-band for help. The best thing that came out of weight loss was the complete positive change in my demeanor, going from the sour grape to the happy optimist. Fitting into smaller clothing and getting physical attention from men was also a great plus! The only downside I've noticed in my journey was the period when my band was failing. I was constantly throwing up and gaining weight, which didn't make sense to me. I also was not seeing my doctor for treatment. I actually let my band torture for a year and a half before I sought treatment, which was irresponsible and stupid. If you have an issue with your surgery, please seek medical attention. The benefit from this torturous chapter in my life is that I learned to value my self and ask for help when needed.
I am coming to BariatricPal for support and camaraderie. My husband found this site and told me all about it, so I figured it might be a nice tool to check in with others who have had similar journeys. I'm hoping to meet some like-minded people, get a few pointers, and maybe help some people out. Feel free to contact me! :-)
