A little inspiration needed at a difficult time?
moveandgroove posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had sleeve surgery July 2013. I lost 75 pounds the first year and then had gallbladder surgery May 2014. After this I stalled but I continued to follow my plan. I was discouraged but kept struggling along. I started seeing a therapist and continue to do so - as my self-esteem is almost non-existent. I started running this past year and booked myself to run in the Disney race and come to the U.S. for a run and a vacation. I was so excited and encouraged by this goal. 6 weeks ago I was admitted into emergency with a brain aneurysm and had to have brain surgery to clip the aneurysm. The surgery was successful and I am still off work while I continue to heal. Disneyland and the run had to be cancelled, and a run I had signed up for here had to be cancelled. Everyone says there will be another run next year and I know that but I am having difficulties moving on. I didn't worry about my diet at first I was focused on my healing from surgery - I did lose 4 pounds in the last six weeks. However, now I am starting to feel better and I have converted back to muffins, toast (basically carbs-comfort foods for me) and finding it hard to get back into a healthy program. Perhaps I am just feeling sorry for myself. I can't get back to running for at least another two or three weeks and then have to start slowly again. Now I am not even sure I want to do that - sort of like I have lost all my get up and go.... I know that people on here that have gone through so much and they seem to move through their difficulties. I am just wondering what kinds of things do you do to keep your head up and your focus high on getting to goal weight. I have about 40 pounds left to lose and certainly don't want to give up. Thanks for reading and sending me your thoughts on getting going again! -
A little inspiration needed at a difficult time?

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback. Today has been a better day - I think patience is the key!!! Slowly but surely my life will return to normal (or normal as can be) I DO NOT want to lose momentum on this weight loss journey so will perhaps even gather up the strength to go back to basics for a day or two. I have good friends in my life, a lovely daughter and so much else to be grateful for! -

Just happened with me! Four weeks ago I was in emergency surgery for an aneurysm. I am at home recovery ing. Once I got home friends/family brought me food for myself and my daughter. They dropped off muffins, Cookies, Pasta dishes..... I have had some of these items but still haven't touched the pasta dishes - I will make them for my daughter. I don't feel like eating much because I am not doing much activity. But I have tried not to think too much about carbs etc while I am healing. Interesting I have still 40 pounds to lose (lost 75) and I have been stalled for 11 months. I got on the scale and since eating not so rigid I have lost 7 pounds in the last 4 weeks!!! Heal your body first - be good to yourself. -

Who else has been through this and conquered it?

I had surgery July 2013. I have lost 75 pounds but have stayed the same weight now for almmost 11 months. I could come up with lots of reasons - but reality is I believe I just got a little careless. I have vowed to re-committ this weekend. I had started running last fall and continue to do that but will add in a little resistance training. I keep telling myself everything is a choice - and if I really really want this bad enough I will continue to make the right choices and get to goal weight. I have approximately 40 pounds left to go and yes for the past month I have been having a little self pity party as well. Re-commit to yourself and know you can do this! Many people struggle off and on throughout this journey - the trick is to pick yourself back up and keep going! All the best to you -

I was sleeved july 3, 2013. I have lost 74 pounds but have not lost one pound since May of 2014. I have started jogging 3 times per week, I still write down everything I eat - but can't seem to start the scale moving again. I have been told to not let my calories go below 1100 calories with 80 g protein. After doing that for 7 months - I have reduced my calories to 900 to see if that makes a difference. I refuse not to get to goal!!!! -
My friend told me to write a "note" to my kids Incase something g happened

I write my daughter a letter every year on her birthday. I put it in envelope and tuck away. No matter what happens she will receive these letters one day and will know how I feel. Sometimes writing things down makes us feel better???? I am a single mom and did think about the risks but the benefits far exceeded those- I don't think it is a horrible thing to write a letter as long as you are comfortable doing so. All the best with your surgery! -
