My doc and NUT have had me on straws since the beginning. They said the him and straw things are myths. As long as you aren't chewing open mouthed and taking in a bunch of air while you chew- you should be okay. Same thing goes for straws. Only sip/drink when your straw is fully immersed in the liquid. Obviously, if you are sipping the bottom of the cup and there is no liquid you are only inhaling air. I've not had any problems with the straw. Never been a big gum person.

I'm using My Fitness Pal app. You can keep track in the water section or add it in the snacks section. That's the way I do it because it's easier for me to add at the end.

Dr. Ganta (Austin), Dr. Kim (Dallas)
redlove1446 replied to Q2theT's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
And just so everyone knows... They are very attractive. My aunt came to visit in the hospital and when Dr D came in wearing his scrubs her jaw dropped. Mind you- my aunt is super skinny and she was like... Uh.., is that your doctor?? What else does he work on? LOL it was so funny. No matter who you choose, we are all here to support you! I wish, for you, a great surgeon that you can talk to and feel comfy talking to. Good luck! -

And, Dr. Seger and Dr. Duperier are partners!! Both great guys! @@knitlil09 Try to get your surgery at Foundation S Hospital. I've had several hospital stays around town and the staff at FSH are, by far, THE BEST -

I didn't use these guys but Dr. Duperier in San Antonio is awesome. Check out bmioftexas.com. I was sleeved on the 21st. I've had several questions. He says to email him. So, I do. And I always hear back from him right away. I did self-pay, too. They accept CareCredit. -
I know! Seriously, I've been dreaming about the salsa from Chilis. Really? Salsa? I dreamt I drank the bowl of salsa and now I've been craving it nonstop

Shiritaki Noodles?

I totally rinsed mine and then boiled them and it would not go away. Maybe I just got a bad batch but I can't go back now. Lol -
Shiritaki Noodles?
redlove1446 replied to purplegerber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm really happy for those of you that tried these and liked them. I could not stomach them and this was pre-sleeve. I'm pretty sure it was the strong odor of them that grossed me out from the get-go. However, if you can eat them, you should because they would be an easy pasta substitution. I just prefer to use spaghetti squash. Good luck! -
Woohoo!! Grats on your success!! 20lbs is fantastic!

April 2014 pre-op group
redlove1446 replied to KristinaRnY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have that same fear! Every time I eat/drink something I just think I'm going to be part of that small % that surgery does nothing for. I don't feel like I'm losing. I don't have a scale so it's not the numbers. I think my main problem is that I haven't even come close to my liquid and protein goals. Dehydration makes your body save all the water weight. I dont know. It sucks but I guess we can only take it one day at a time. -
Yes hormones are crazy after surgery. Also, don't forget that hormones are stored in fat. So, as you burn with Ketosis you also release a grip of hormones into your body. Feel better hon!

April 2014 pre-op group

If her gallbladder had to be removed, as well, that's pretty major. I've talked to many people in our vsg group in Instagram that have so many complications once their GB is removed. Her poor family. She looks so young and full of life. This is very sad. -

Omg! That's so sad to hear! Does anyone know what happened? Was it surgery-related? My heart goes out to her family. -
I'm jealous of you guys! My plan had one week of clear liquids, now I'm on two weeks of full liquids. No food. So, today I had an Atkins shake for breakfast, 1/2 c of strained egg drop soup for lunch and 1/2 c of strained tomato basil soup for dinner. I'm adding small amounts of protein to my soups but I can't do the powder shakes anymore. I've had a retch reaction every time I try. I even ordered the Nectar samples and could not take it. It's not the sweetness for me it's that overwhelming protein powder taste. So, sadly, I'm not reaching protein goals.

Post-Op Goals & sucesses
redlove1446 replied to nemery's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only a week post-op but my goal is simple. Get healthy enough to become pregnant and carry a child to term (after a year, of course). Remain healthy to raise my family and all the little things that come with living. -
Full off two bites..really?!?!
redlove1446 replied to Lindsayellen93's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no! It sounds like you're full. This makes me so sad. I start full liquids tomorrow and am dying to get to puréed just for the refried Beans. Sigh. Of course, I guess it's a good thing, right? -
you're right. This is a huge decision and you won't be able to eat for about 5 weeks after. Then, after 5 weeks, you still won't be able to eat some things that you really want: pasta, bread, rice, salad. It's a major major surgery. I had to do it. I get sad when I see other people eating and all I can stomach is 1/2 cup of jello. And that's after doing all broth all week because the jello was too heavy. I would never try to sway you one way or another but make sure you've thought about it and are sure you want to do it. Like everyone says, this changes your entire lifestyle. Regardless of the lack of variety and substance I've had to go on for about the past month~ I know this was the right choice for me. You just have to really look inside yourself and find the answer. Don't let your family decide for you. If my family had decided, I would have had a cheeseburger and fries for dinner tonight vs that 1/2 cup of jello. Be strong! You can do it if you really want it!

I love following you, too!! My Instagram is strictly for WLS family. None of my family or friends know I had the surgery except my parents. There would be a grip of judgement so I keep my wls IG and my personal IG separate. But I gotta say that I'm mostly on the wls IG lol Follow angelique1446

Is it gas?
redlove1446 replied to hopeful2loose2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the only thing that helped the gas for me is walking. I was sleeved onMonday and I thought I got it all out before leaving the hospital yesterday but it lingers! It surprises you so just keep up the walks and, hopefully, you'll feel better. That's the only way I got over it. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon! -
Yes! Sf Popsicles are the best. I added a tbsp of Protein to my beef broth tonight to see if I could handle it and all went well. Does anyone have painful burps? Sometimes when I burp I feel like the gas bubble is right there with it. I dont know maybe just me. I am so sore but the Tylenol & codone knocks me down. I sleep and sleep. Oh well. I'm taking each day as it comes. I just keep worrying that I'm doing something wrong. Ya know?

the bad breath is the worst! It's from Ketosis. It's a good thing in that your body is burning fat but it sucks when you have to brush your teeth every 20 minutes lol
