Pregnant after sleeve
YourFriendJess replied to Josefina1210's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was sleeved 1-5-15 At my post op appointment in July 2015, I told my surgeon that I was pregnant. (not planned) I had a normal pregnancy up until my 36 week checkup. My ultra sound showed that the baby was estimated to be 5 lbs and my amniotic Fluid level was a low normal. My obgyn wanted me to return in a few days for a repeat ultra sound. The amniotic fluid level was normal but my baby girl was measuring 4lbs 10 oz, I was sent to labor and delivery to be more closely monitored by my obgyn's partner, (my doctor was out of town) When I got there, my blood pressure was through the roof. After several hours, it had not gone down any. A urine test revealed that I was spilling Protein. Long story short, I was admitted. I was induced the night before 37 weeks. I had a vaginal delivery with no epidural (my wishes). Harper Leigh was born on Feb. 16, 2016 weighing 4lbs 11 oz; 17 3/4 in. Perfectly healthy... never went to the NICU and came home on the 18th weighing 4lbs 7 oz. She is now 3 months old and was just over 9 lbs at her two month checkup. I gained 13 lbs total and the night I got home was down 14 lbs. Hope this helps. -
Does any one have their insurance pay for their Protein drinks? I have seen an adveritsement on here about it. The site is insurenutrition.com if anyone else is interested.

6 months post op and not happy
YourFriendJess replied to magda2931's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on the weight loss thus far!! A few questions for you: All meals should be rich in Protein. Are you meeting at least the minimum protein requirement that your doctor and nutritionist have recommended? Are you tracking everything that you eat throughout the day? What about your fluids? Are you drinking mostly Water or are you drinking calorie laden drinks? Are you exercising daily or most days of the week? And lastly have you spoken with the surgeon or nutritionist about your concerns? I'm sure there are others that can further help you as I am just 4 months post op. Best of luck to you! Jessica -

Post OP Protein
YourFriendJess replied to Be_pretty_epic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on Clear liquids for the first two days post op. I was able to take in very little at first. Isopure drinks found at GNC have a lot of Protein, however, I could not stand the taste. broth went down easy for me. As I transitioned to puree, I recommend refried Beans and I was allowed mashed potatoes with Protein powder mixed in. I LOVE unjury protein powder. It comes in several flavors. And as far as yogurt, I just finished a Dannon light and fit greek yogurt in Boston cream pie. To me, these are just the right size. Greek yogurt has more than double the protein content than regular yogurt. You can't beat 80 calories and 12g protein and 9 carbs. You may find that your taste has changed once post op. Some things that I liked pre op I no longer like/crave. Hope this helps some! Jessica -
Feeling Overwhelmed
YourFriendJess replied to Jaxxx's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I waited for 30 long, excruciating days before I got my approval. Hope you hear back soon!! -
@Elode How many carbs a day do you average? I think I may be taking in too many and was just curious what others consume.

Bougie Size- disappointed
YourFriendJess replied to hanginthere's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
At 4 weeks post op, I was allowed pureed foods. You should be eating Protein rich foods first. My faves are cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, and refried Beans with cheese. Do you see a nutritionist? You should have been given a post op food plan. Follow that. Cheetos and popcorn are not good choices at this stage in your post op plan. Begin exercising as you are able. Make sure you are getting in at least 60 oz of fluids and 60 g of protein. The weight will come off. Best of luck, Jessica -
What is the downtime after a Gastric Sleeve procedure?
YourFriendJess replied to roomsbylisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have any pain post op....just sore. I did take the pain med at night as I sleep on my sides...... just allowed me to feel more comfortable. I took that for four nights total. I am an RN and the coordinator at my surgeons office recommended that I took off three weeks. I had plenty of ETO so I took off the three weeks. I probably could have gone back sooner, but was glad for the break! At post op day 5, I really felt like I was back to my old self. I have read where some people that have desk jobs go back just days after the surgery. If you are able, I would take off at least a week so that you can adjust to the diet and meeting you daily requirements. I noticed you are in AL....what part and who is doing your surgery? I am in Montevallo and Dr. DeWitt did mine. Hope this has helped! Jessica -

I agree with RedSalamader. -
do you crush all your medications?
YourFriendJess replied to boosh10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Per my surgeon, all meds/ supplements were to be taken whole starting day three. You should not crush meds... especially time released meds. I was given a binder full of info prior to my surgery that I can refer to at any time. -
Long term risks with 80% of Stomach Removed?
YourFriendJess replied to eaw434's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Gastrectomies have been performed for over one hundred years. It is only new to being done for WLS. As a previous poster stated you can live with other organs removed as well. I am a RN and have cared for people with no stomach at all. -
Is popcorn ever permitted post op? I know that it's not the best decision, as far as nutrition goes, but was just curious at what point it could be eaten.

I was sleeved 1/5 and had my first follow up with surgeon on 1/21. I am down 22 lbs! I don't have a scale at home so will not weigh again until I see him next month. I will be starting soft/puree foods, Monday ,when I will be three weeks out. I am so looking forward to anything other than the mashed potato, cream based Soup and yogurt that I am currently eating along with my Protein shake. Still not meeting my protein/fluid requirements but it's getting easier everyday.

Surgery tomorrow!
YourFriendJess replied to jerseymami1988's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Will be praying for you tomorrow! Good Luck! -
Your taste may change after surgery...... what tasted good to you pre-op may taste horrible post op and vice verse. I drink the Atkins Protein shakes.....15G protein, 3 net carbs, and 160 calories for a 11 oz shake. unjury is another Protein powder that gets great reviews and to me is delicious! You can order a sample pack from their website. Unjury is not sold in stores. Hope this helps some.

I need advice from a nurse or medical person (not WLS related)
YourFriendJess replied to Oregondaisy's topic in The Lounge
I would ask to see an infectious disease doctor. Do you have MRSA?
