Losing weight at an older age

I too wondered the same thing. I wondered what it was that made some people lose faster than others. I assumed that the heavier you were, the easier and faster it would come off in the beginning but that has not been true necessarily either. I wondered if some people were fast losers or slow losers due to age, history (personally, I have dieted for 40 of my 49 years), activity level, or genetics. I guess we are all just plain different. I know that at my weight, the fact that I lost 12 pounds in the last 4 weeks was a little disappointing. There was one week in that period I didn't lose anything at all. Even my nurse practritioner said that it was below expected (or average) values for someone my size (that was tough to hear) Well, I didn't let it get me too down. I pulled up my big girl panties and will continue to fight the good fight and will get there when I get there. At least I know that I am doing my part. I also did the math in my head as to how much I would lose by the end of the year if I did lose 12 a month. I can live with that. Good luck!!

Hey RJ...inspiration of mine....how are you doing? GIve us a shout out and give us an update. Hope you are feeling better!
  5. Never thought to ask this when I went for my last follow up and honestly I'm a little embarrassed to call up the team to ask this question so I thought I would poll the troops here until I go for my next followup and can add it to our conversation. Here goes: if your meal is a liquid, like premier protein drink, do you still have to wait an hour afterwards before drinking anything else? ( my surgeon requires not drinking for an hour after eating but I know others are different).

    Warning: stupid question

Thanks everyone for your replies! I think I was hoping to be able to "wash" the taste out of my mouth. I'm not a big fan of Protein shakes and they leave a bad taste. So, now I just chew a piece of gum for a minute and poof! problem solved! :-)
  7. I'm 2 months out and glad to tell you I'm a happy gulper. I can't gulp as long as I could prior to surgery but I can certainly quench my thirst. I drink through a straw most of the time. My surgeon has no issue with the straw. WOOT!

    Losing Muscle....?

First, Congrats on your weightloss! that is awesome! I hope to follow in your footsteps. In terms of your problem, it seems you do a LOT of cardio, but do you do any weight training? that might help with your muscle tone. Cardio is great for weightloss and for your heart but when it comes to getting those muscles toned there is nothing like resistence. If I were you, I would seek out the help of a trainer where you work out and have them design a program for you that will help you get to where you want to be. Good luck and again congrats!!

    Warning: stupid question

Thanks! I will continue to wait the hour. Because it's so thin it moves through my pouch quickly but I worried that if I drank something after, it would keep me from absorbing all the protein.
  10. Another thing you can do is organize your closet. It makes going shopping in your own closet more efficient and fun (wink)

Confused on how weight loss works

If starting off with liquids, then puree, then soft, then regular food, it's not for the amount but because our tummy has to heal. Even when you move to the regular food stage you will not be consuming very much. Does that help?

    Work is killing me!

Oh my goodness! YAY you for staying strong! I think you should put a "before and after" picture in your desk drawer and every time you think something laden with sugar is calling your name, take a look at the picture! Someone had the following saying (sorry I can't give a proper reference because I don't remember who it was or where I saw it.....maybe sparkpeople?) Anyway, she always said "nothing tastes as good as being thin feels" Keep fighting the good fight!

Do they not make dresses with long sleeves anymore?

I too was going to suggest a shrug. I have been having good luck finding things at Catherine's. I'm always on the lookout for things that hide my wingspan!

    Incisions

Lena, my incisions were glued and then taped. I was allowed to shower but not allowed to soak in a tub. I was told the tape would peel off in a couple of weeks. Which it did. I had scabs much longer than that though.

7 weeks post op - success and struggles

I just picked up a few of the P3 packs today. I'm excited to have a ready to go lunch or snack, or dinner etc. I'm all about convenience at this point so I don't have to think about food all the time or spend a bunch of time prepping. Trying really hard to make my life revolve around things other than food!

    Bloody Stool?

when in doubt, ask the doctor. I hope it's just a status quo sort of thing. I was taking an Iron supplement that turned my stool black. Thankfully, I don't have to take that anymore! Keep us posted on what you find out!

    Hardest thing for you?

Carolinagirl, I could have written your post....except that I'm just starting my journey and don't have all the extra skin....which makes me add the guilt of why did I wait so long? I feel the shame of what I've done yo myself every single day.
