Over 400Lbs Gastric Sleeve Success Story

Hello to all those I have not yet met. In answer to your question regarding how much of my stomach did they take, I don't know. My surgeon doesnt give %'s. In answer to Willy.....don't be discouraged! Your body has to figure out what is going on. I have a general trend that I don't lose for about 3 weeks, then I drop some, then repeat. As long as we are doing what we should, that is all we can do and it will be ok! I also noticed that it was at the times when the scale was NOT moving that I noticed the most difference in clothing. It sounds a bit weird but it's true. I haven't lost anything for about a month now. I try to not weigh often so that I too do not become discouraged. It helps that I feel so much better than I did. Onward! we can do this!!

  3. If I remember correctly it was 4 weeks before I could submerge in water. But your surgery team will let you know! Congrats on your pre-surgery weightloss! Good luck!

I have no problem with nuts or seeds.....unfortunately LOL Just wait till your team recommends you try them. And even if it doesn't go well the first time, wait a month or so and try again! Good luck!!

9 months post-op: my story so far.

Thanks for sharing your story! My surgery was March 10th and I'm a bit discouraged that my loss has slowed tremendously. I have a long way to go so I was hoping I could continue to drop 2-3 lbs a week average but I don't think thats in the cards for me anymore. However, like you, I'm thrilled with how far I have come and I will continue to fight the good fight. I will get there eventually. Your pics look great! Thanks again for sharing!

    Christmas Baking ideas/helps

I think eating 1/10th of what you did before is a success! When I am baking and I'm afraid I might nibble or be tempted, I will put a cough drop in my mouth. Everything tastes gross if you have a cough drop flavor in your mouth.

    Just a few questions.

These are all great responses. In terms of goal weight, my surgeon doesn't talk about that AT ALL ...at least not yet. My GP would be thrilled if my weight started with a "1". Thus, I made my goal weight 199 for my ticker. When I get there, which I will eventually, I will decide what to do from there. I don't know how tall you are but our starting weights are almost identical. Don't worry so much about your goal weight yet, just set yourself up for success with the proper education about the procedures, a support system at home, etc. Several people on this board have lost over 200 lbs. Some day I hope to be added to that list! You can find all kinds of stats out there, but it all boils down to you as an individual. I wish you much success! I have a long way to go but I feel so much better already...I truly wish that for you!

I Have No Motivation That Pushes Me

Greetings! Don't worry about "working out" right now. Just think about adding some movement. Baby steps if you will. It will all help. Sit up in bed, and do arm raises over your head, arm circles out to the side. add a little weight when you can to make it a little harder. Sit on the side of your bed and go from sitting to standing as many times as you can during commercial breaks. It all counts. Every little bit counts. As the weight comes off you will be able to do more and more. You can do this!

LOL@ calling the police! I too overstocked on Jello and sugar free pudding. And yes, I would have to put it back in fridge to be finished later. I guess I just couldn't grasp the concept when I was shopping! And YAY YOU for not focusing on the numbers! that is AWESOME! You go girl!

    Depression and stress

Oh Honey, you can't control his behavior (which is terrible) but this isn't about him, it's about you. Please call your doctor and explain what you have done. Let them help you get the help you need. You are worth it.

    I baked

That's really awesome! So far I'm doing pretty well. I still have a long way to go but I'm thrilled with my progress. Last week I took my folks to the beach and they have horrible eating habits. They had all kinds of salty and sweet goodies in the room and we of course "ate out" for every meal. I had packed along some Protein shakes to make sure I got all my protein in and although I wasn't as stellar as I usually am with my choices I managed to lose 4 lbs. I was THRILLED! They were constantly offering me "junk". Most of the time I wasn't even tempted. Last year I would have said...heck, I'm on vacation, it's ok.... I too am baking as it is one of my most favorite things to do and I'm giving it all away. I occasionally have a bite of something I made but I'm no longer a food victim. It feels wonderful and freeing. As a matter of fact last night I bought myself a new pair of warm jammies that FIT and a new outfit for Christmas parties. I am really looking forward to the holidays and am not concerned about the food at all. Wow....who knew? All that being said, I wish there was a warm drink that I enjoyed....drinking cold Water when it is freezing outside is not all that refreshing. So...if anyone has any suggestions, I'm game! I don't care for coffee or hot tea.

    The collarbone pose

YAY you!!!!! What an awesome NSV!!!
  19. Hang in there! When you are allowed to eat something that doesn't slide right through you will start to feel some restriction and the fullness that we all talk about. But alas there must be time for healing first. Sounds like you are doing a good job of getting in your Protein and Fluid though! When I really want something but don't "need" anything I reach for a sugar free bomb pop popcicle. Love those things! Or try distracting yourself. Anything to get you through. You can do this!

    Leak Test

Mine was at my 1 week post-op check. It was with 2 different solutions, one thinner than the other. Both were quite vile But it was cool to watch them go down!

    My body feels awful...

I had a terrible time with plain water. But if I put some flavoring in it (one of those things you squirt in it) I did much better. I think the sugar free kook aid cherry flavor was my favorite. I also remember in the beginning drinking G2. Its the low cal gatorade. It has some sugar in it (just a lot less than the regular one) so be mindful if you are diabetic or had the bypass. But these two things REALLY helped me get more fluids in. Good luck and hang in there. It gets easier!

Short didn't mean petite for me

I hope you heal quickly and that this brings you the health you desire and deserve. Its easy for others to look at our "packaging" and make assumptions about us and what we "need". Don't worry about what others think. This is all about you! Good luck and welcome to the losers bench!
