Over 400Lbs Gastric Sleeve Success Story
sophie'sChoice replied to jasminem89's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't worry, you are right on track. It took me longer to get all that protein and water in so you rock! You and I started out at almost exactly the same stats, when we have this much weight it takes longer to get the anesthesia out of our system and remember this is a major surgery. Be kind to yourself, the stamina will come. Everyone's journey is different so try to not compare. Hang in there! I bet you willbe pleasantly surprised at your doc visit. -

Thanks for the follow up and I'm thrilled for you! -
I'm in St. Louis. Had it done at Barnes hospital

Thanks! I'm humbled by other peoples struggles in this world over all but like you, when the fire department had to carry me I kept apologizing as well. I tore my MCL,PCL,ACL, the lateral and medial meniscus, and the thing that actually put me on the surgery table was a total rupture of my quad. My thigh muscle wasn't attached to anything. That was on January 3rd and I am just now getting to bend the knee. I spend a lot of time with my leg elevated still. I did this on jan3rd and it was the day I found out my surgery date was March 10th. Before I would let them put me under I asked the trauma surgeon if it would impact my weightloss surgery lol.....like I would choose to not have my leg fixed lol. Pretty funny now. I lost 15 pounds in the hospital and managed to keep it off till my surgery. I started out in the beginning at 428 so I have a long way to go. At my 1 week post op check I was 391. I don't think I have lost much since then. I go back for a follow up the week after next. I think my feet and legs appreciate every pound they don't have to carry around.

Very inspiring! Thank you for posting. I too have over 200 pounds to lose and it seems such a big undertaking. I am also recovering from a really bad knee/thigh injury that has kept me almost immobile since before my surgery but I went ahead with surgery as planned since it took me almost a year to get through the process. Recovering from both things has been a challenge and I'm really hoping that when I can walk better I will see some more results! Until then.......forward I go! A little at a time. Keep up the great work and again thanks for the inspiration!

I didn't have to do the preop liquid diet so after surgery I found myself liking the sugar free pop cycles. Hang in there!

He's a Doctor for crying out loud! He knows that when you were sick you got dehydrated and when you got better you would be rehydrated. That wasn't a gain of "fat"........grrrrrr I hate it when medical people should know better! sheesh! I'm glad you are better though! You will see onderland again! I can feel it! -
When was your first stall?

I'm at week 3-4 and glad I'm not alone! I think our bodies are still in a bit of shock....that's what I'm hoping....hang in there! -
I think it would be rare for someone to say they never had this feeling or fear. Be kind to yourself. Stop thinking about it and find something to distract you mentally while the physical part has time to heal.

I all! I will be entering the soft food stage in a few days and I was wondering what foods worked for you and what you found to be challenging at this phase. Any and all advice welcome!
-
Thanks everyone! I just started on soft food and I'm thrilled to not have to eat out of the blender any more! I had a scrambled egg and it was heavenly!
-
Cool! I have a feeling I'm going to be a very cheap date. Why yes, I think I will have an appetizer and a to-go box please! LOL I can't wait till I can eat "regular" food.
-
In the forums people mention other peoples stats. Where are these, how do you see them, how do I manage my own? Thanks

Is message folder the same as conversations?
-
Where do you click on profiles? I don't see that either....I feel like I'm missing out on a lot! But I don't know if it's because I'm new and don't know what I'm doing yet or if it's because I'm restricted by my iPad. LOL
-
Way To go! You will be one of those data points way on top of the curve when they show their stats! Keep up he good work! You are a great inspiration!
-
I agree. It's the idea that you can't have something that makes you want it. I too had my farewell tour before my surgery but it was a way to feed my anxiety I think. I'm looking forward to being able to eat real food at smaller portions just to get some different flavors and sence of normalcy. But the truth will come when I get stressed out and can't eat....I need to plan now...
-
Thanks all. I don't see the signature lines I guess because I'm on my iPad.
-
Oops! I'm on my iPad

At 1 week I was allowed puréed food. First thing I did was put chili in the blender. It was awesome. I made sure it wasn't too spicy but I sure did appreciate having something with a lot of flavor.
-
My doc did not forbid straws either. I find that it helps me get the shakes down now that I'm finding them fairly unpalatable. I did wait till I was several days out though just to be sure!
