I am a 37 year old female who has always been a "big boned girl". As a division 1 shot-putter, hammer thrower, power lifter I have always been noted for my strength and size. Now as a mom of 3 most of that muscle mass has slowly been replaced with fat. My presurgery weight was 247 at 5'7. The most difficult part of making this decision was that I have always been told that I am a "Mesomorph" body type. People are always amazed that I "acutally weight that much" because I "carry it so well".
My surgeons agreed in that I don't have a lot of fat to lose but with my large number of comorbidities along with the high BMI will ultimately shorten my lifespan. I took one year to dicide to have the surgery and to go throught the pre-surgical process. I can't pinpoint the exact time that I decided surgery was right form me but my daughter (15) was always saying "mom, let me take your before picture".
On 2/3/14 I had a sleeve gastrectomy. I decided on the sleeve because I occasionaly need NSAIDs for aches and pains. I am 6 weeks post-op right now and have lost 40lbs. I exercise at least 30 minutes 7 days a week.
Some challanges I faced is the greiveing process over the loss of large meals. Not drinking during meals, and eating slow. I am an RN and have always had limited time to consume a meal.
So far, I am looking at my relationship with food as an addiction that I am battleing one day at a time with each day getting easier.
