Went to my primary care dr yesterday and he was amazed at my results. I was real happy till he returned with a needle full of B-12. WOW, what a shot. To top it off, I had to drive all the way home and the shot wasnt in my arm.....LOL Then he added more meds to my already long list......Folic acid, B-12, and potassium chloride. I joked with him saying the reason to go thru the surgery was to get off the meds, not to take more. He reassured me that this was temporary until I start eating more regularly. I did tell him I do Protein shakes 2 times per day, but anything else I have to force myself to eat. Anyone else going thru this ????????

Still new at this, but I think you may need to see your dr for a little more fill. At least a consult to relay your results/feelings to your dr.

I thought this was only me, but I can smell a cigarette that my neighbor is smoking about 4 houses away. Or if I pass someone in the store, now I can smell cigs if they smoke. I also smell the coffee from my next door neighbors house even with thier windows closed. I'm hoping this will go away and is not permanent.....Dave

I'm still new at this, but I have a protein shake 2 times per day and a small lunch. I have not been hungry since surgery and just had my first fill on Monday. Protein shakes help get the 80-100g of protein that my dr requires and maybe its in my head, but i really dont want to eat. I have been out to dinner with people and usually am full before I can finish my appetizer meal.

I would have to say that eating without drinking was the hardest thing for me to get used to. I started doing it during my month long pre-op diet and that really helped. Yesterday I went out to lunch and the waitress looked at me strange when I said nothing to drink, not even water. If she only knew I was losing weight while sitting there...LOL

Today, one month after having my surgery, I get a call from the billing dept at the hospital. My insurance company has denied my claim!!!!!! Man, my heart skipped more than a few beats. I told the lady in billing that I had a copy of the approval number, checked on thier website and all was in order. Seems someone at AETNA didnt have his head screwed on staight. One call back to AETNA from the billing dept and all was good. Man, I was looking at 33000 worth of bills that I didnt plan on. What a day. If I drank, I would have had a few....Dave

Stacy,I was thinking the same thing. She had me lay down, in went the needle and then I stood up and starting drinking water while she added a little more. Still so far so good though, but I only feel the band when I drink while laying down, so I have stopped doing that...LOL

Mine is posessed. I hear it talking to me at night....Dont eat, dont eat.....

Seems longer than 2 weeks have gone by, but its almost here. I will be looking for any ideas for food variety for my next 2 weeks. I really never thought I would be looking forward to pureed foods LOL Dave:D:D

I am able to eat just about anything, but after a few bites, I feel like I dont want any more. Not a full feeling, but really not hungry either. The Protein Shakes are an easy way to maintain a high intake daily.
-
My primary doctor was callng the insurance company daily with information and anything else needed. I would have to say that without his help, it would have never been approved, even though I had all my paperwork in order.

8 ccs can still eat too much.

We have someone in our local group that has almost 12cc;s in a 10cc band, so you have some room to go. I was thinking the same thing when they put 6 in for my first fill, but no problems so far.... -
I am taking a Centrum chewable multi-vitamin daily. He said I need to try to maintain around 1000-1200 calories per day, but my journal shows I am around 800. The shot did give me more energy later in the day when I got it. I think maybe he was being careful and trying to keep me from being tired/lack of energy. I do a lot of walking, weight training 4 times per week ( not heavy weights though) and some stationary bike riding. I think that with the new energy I have since surgery that I am doing so much more that my body hasnt had time to adjust, but I am no doctor..LOL I will try adding another Protein shake and see if that helps. Thanks for the replies....Dave

I just got my first fll on Monday, 6cc's in my 10cc band. I am sure restriction is coming because I can feel some when I drink while laying down. My doctor also said it could take as much as 2 weeks till I really feel it. For now, willpower is doing good....Dave

Blood Pressure Issues
Dave01 replied to flower faery's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a firm believer in the protein shakes, particularly the whey protein. My dr wants me to have 120g of protein per day so these are a life saver for me. Also, as already suggested, increase your liquid intake as much as you can stand. I had the same thing for a little while but its smoothed out since increasing what I drink. Good luck, keep us posted.....Dave -
Sounds pretty normal. I didnt get the appetite back and now 48 days out I am still not hungry. I did just get my first fill on monday, so its going to be new for me now.
-
I though it was a lot too, but my dr said she doesnt do the mini fills that I hear about. I had to stand and drink water as she was adjusting the amount and when I felt the water slow down, she stopped. So far its good, but we will see in a few days or so when I try to eat anything more than liquids/mushies.

So many pre-op requirements!!
Dave01 replied to Marlu77's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, everything you mentioned. With work and stuff, it took me right at 1 year to get all tests done and approval from my ins company. Good luck with the rest of the hoops you are jumping thru....Dave -
I just got my first fill yesterday. It was a big one too..LOL My dr said to wait 1-2 weeks and I should start to feel some good restriction. I already feel some, so I know its working. So far its been willpower, but that works too....Dave
-
Till my first fill. Then 2 days of liquids. I cant wait. I still have not been hungry, but dont want to tell my dr about that in case she doesnt want to do the fill. I have been able to limit myself to 700-900 calories of food with no problems. Hope everyone else is doing good too....Dave
-
Thanks for the good wished. We are being a little agressive due to the type of work I do and my being out of the country every other month. We'll see in a week or so how it feels, but right now the chicken broth is going down ok, just taking it real slow
-
And now its over. WOW, that was nice and easy. I got 6cc's put in my 10cc band. chicken broth for the next day then mushies. I have to admit I thought it was going to be more involved than it was, but my dr hit the port the first try. Then the "drink the Water test" and she went up to 6cc's Hope everybody else is making out real good too.....Dave

Sorry to hear you all are going thru this. I am around 45 days post op and am still not hungry. I have to make myself eat or I will just skip meals. Protein shakes in the morning do wonders, along with another one in the evening. I think I have tricked myself enough so I am no longer eating just to do it. I even went thru the Mcdonalds drice thru to get bottled water just to see if I could do it....LOL -
I'm going for my first fill today. Not sure what to expect, so I hope it all goes well. Does your dr require you to have a ride back home, or is it ok to drive yourself back home. I have no idea why I just thought of this....Dave
