Why is it that the surgeons are not filling!!!
Dave01 replied to goodtimes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, I didnt realize the surgeons werent doing the fills. Mine does all the fills for her patients, right in her office. Its nice because I can talk to her about any questions I have while getting filled...Dave -
Just got back from 4 days of pure ridimg heaven in the NC and Tenn mountains, particularly Deals Gap and the Tail of the dragon. Great exercise too for the upper body...LOL Back to the daily walking and stuff for now

You could call Palms of Pasadena hospital or Suncoast Bariatrics and see if they can do it, both located in St. petersburg area.

Thanks to everyone who shared thier experiences on this site. It really made me think what I should eat with eah meal And thanks to the band, I was still able to lose another 3 lbs. I guess once you set your mind to it, the proper eating comes naturally. We did a BBQ place, a Broasted chicken place, and others, so I stared at the menu for a long time deciding what was best. I could have never done this without the band, even though I still have no restriction. The "mind restriction" thought of PB's and band slippage was enough...LOL

LOL.... I kept thinking what if I get sick in this resteraunt... and it worked. Plus I am a scale addict so I would have shot my scale if it had gone up at all. I was very happy to find that I could make a meal out of things on the menu while everyone else with me could still eat what they liked. Glad to hear your first fill is coming up. My second will be 11/13 and I cant wait.

SUCCESS, I have survived my October challenge. I just spent 4 days in the NC mountains, so walking was a REAL challenge. Boy did I miss the flat lands..LOL I also found that motorcycle riding in the mountains was a good upper body workout. Each night it felt like someone used me for a punching bag.:faint::faint::faint:

I have quit associating with a few people that had the same feelings and reactions. I have found many new friends since being banded that I really dont miss them and thier sacrasm. One of my answers to them was since I had enough willpower to quit drinking and became the designated driver that I must have saved thier lives many times in the past and this is the time I want to save my own. End of story. Silence filled the room........ Dave:whoo::whoo:

I have 7 of them. They had a hard time since I have had many abdominal surgeries in the past, so they needed a few more access points.
-
Fills are when they add the saline to the band to close it off more and enable you to eat less, with the feeling of being full. Usually you wont get one till at least a month after your surgery, to let the band settle in place

Sugar free Popsicles do wonders......

Just banded 10/24 - and have questions
Dave01 replied to jamzny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sounds a little early to me for pureed foods. I had 2 weeks liquid only, 2 weeks pureed food, 1 week soft food then normal food. All dr's are different, so I would check with yours....Dave -
Lauren, wish I could help but I havent had to experience this. Maybe try liquids a few more days and call your dr to tell him/her. My fav mushie was pureed clam chowder (healthy request). Good luck and keep us posted....Dave

Day 9 and Going strong! My experience so far
Dave01 replied to socaldixiegal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sounds like you are right on track. I still have no hunger so I cant tell you when it will come back. Protein shakes were and are my life saver..... Keep it up, it gets easier too....Dave -
Dr Jesse is awesomw to deal with. She spent 4 hrs working on me due to trouble from past surgeries but never gave up. I highly recommend her and the staff.

How often do you have a protein shake for breakfast?
Dave01 replied to mandi78's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I do one every day for breakfast and usually 4-5 times per week for dinner too. My lunch is my real meal, and I have not had any hunger at all. Of course, I did the protein shakes for over a month prior to starting my pre-surgery diet, so I am used to them. 52+ grams of protein in each one....YUMMMMM -
How many fills before good restriction?
Dave01 replied to vcr26's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the 10cc band too and my first fill was 6cc's, but still am not sure if I have any restriction. I am still limiting myself on food amounts. 3 more weeks till fill number 2 -
Got a tentative date - now some questions!
Dave01 replied to abutterfly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded the end of August and I cant remember any intense pain, just a little discomfort. I do realize some people have more pain than others, but it isnt a real severe surgery. Small incisions and thats about it. I did stairs the 2nd day home. Just not a lot of them. The best thing is walking around your house as much as possible, but when tired, rest. Most go back to work pretty quick, although I have not gone back yet. I work offshore on a boat and they want to make sure everything is 100% before I go back. I still have no real appetite, so I cant answer the hunger question.....Dave -
Who did this prior to being banded?
Dave01 replied to mejr62's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I told close friends and relatives, thats all. Never did the last meal/last foods thing. I started a liquid type diet way prior to being banded I have been using my personal weight equipment all along, but now that the food is limited, I can see more results Body Fortress whey Protein in choclate is awesome and a good source of protein -
Can we add one more....ME My surgery was 8/30 Thanks, the August number is growing

I think you may be off on what calories you will be maintaining once at desired weight, unless you are going to be VERY active. 3000 is quite a few calories, much more than necessary. That makes the 400 useless calories from alcohol a larger part of your daily intake. You are fortunate to be able to have this surgery in SA, because not too many dr's here would do it until you have a psych eval where the psychologist would have a field day figuring this out..
-
Body fortress 100% whey protein, 46g of protein per serving, 4g of carbs and the choclate is awesome. Its available at Walmart and not bad priced too..
-
Mandi, I am measuring my food out now, keeping meals at around 1/2 to 3/4 cup total. I know some people on here dont recommend them, but I still do a protein shake 2 times daily and they fill me right up. Plus it makes getting 100g of protein in. I have not gotten my appetite back since surgery but I think its because I am afraid of damaging something if I get into a habit of "overdoing it". Hope everything else is going good....Dave
-
Nina, I have become a scale addict, weighing myself every 2 days...LOL As long as the needle keeps moving, the scale is safe. If it stops just one time....it is history

Opps I was greedy...and now I am worried!
Dave01 replied to cookielover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amy, A one time slip up like that should not cause you any problems. Its doing it often that is bad. Your "pouch" is flexible, but should not be stressed too often. I, while definatly not being a doctor, think you should be fine. I'm sure I will do the same one day. Hope everything else is going good....Dave -
I have a 10cc band and my first fill was 6ccs's. Still waiting for the resriction to kick in. Sometimes I feel it, but not always. I am still limiting my intake though, so maybe I am not eating as much as I should to feel it....Dave
