    Aaaargh!!! conflicting advice

Nina, I was told no heavy workout for 1 month after surgery, then go for it. They specifically wanted me to avoid crunches, a lot of twisting and stuff to make sure the band seated good. I am 2 months out and have been hitting the inclined crunch board and cable machine without any problems from my band or port area. Good luck, Hope it all works out for you....Dave
  2. Sorry to hear that you had to deal with an obviously unprofessional "nurse". I have no patience with people like that, no matter what profession they are in.We, as the customers, deserve respect and when we dont get it, its time to speak out. From what I have read, you are a little limited on the places you can go and the dr's you can see. Dont let the person in the office ruin the relationship you have with your doctor though. Speak to him about her. If it was a one time thing, then maybe she was having " one of those days". We have all had them. If it continues, then there is a problem. What you have chosen to do by getting the band is a big enough thing to deal with without someone adding stress to the picture. Hope it all works out for you....Dave

    which is best?

Sure. You want to limit the number of calories you take in to be less than the number you burn per day. Low calories and low carbs works good for me. On days when I get a little too many carbs, I take a few extra laps to work them off.
  4. My first fill was 6 weeks post-op. I have heard of them being done sooner, but I didnt want one since I kept losing and felt great.

    pre-op

I averaged almost a pound perday loss with the Protein shakes and 1 meal plan. The walking helped very much too. Walmart Protein Shakes twice daily made with skim milk and a very small meal with no breads, rice, Pasta, sodas. Try grilled chicken/fish and a single veggie, keeping the portion around 3oz for each and you will have no problem losing the 5%

    cheating on PREOP DIET

I was told the same thing. If they get all of the stuf ready and the liver is still too large, it can hinder or stop the surgery, and I would have been charged for the procedure. That in itself was enough for me to stay very strict on my pre-op diet. My surgery was 4 hrs long due to scar tissue from previous abdominal surgeries, and my surgeon said that after talking to other dr's that they all would have stopped and not finished it. She saw how dedicated I was to the pre-op and went thru with the banding. Cheating a little isnt the end of he world. Just get back on track quickly and you will be ok. After all, we are human. Remember that the better we stick to the pre-op, the easier the liquid portion will be after surgery

    pre-op

My dr wanted me to lose 20 lbs before surgery, so I made up my own diet of protein shaes for 2 meals per day and a SMALL lunch, usually grilled fish and a small veggie. It works as long as you exercise some. I took up walking each night, parking away from the stores to walk more and instead of sitting and watching tv, I sat and rode my stationary bike while watching. Hope this helps....Dave

    Banded Yesterday...omg The Gas

And after that, walk some more.............That did it for me
  17. Yep, I am not sure what it is either. I can be walking thru a store and drinking water and all of the sudden, there is a lump in my throat that doesnt want to go away. I thought I was drinking too much too quick. That wasnt it. But mine is worse if I am laying down and drinking stuff. Mine started after about 3 weeks and still comes back to visit.
  18. The surgery isnt bad at all. They will have you walking the same afternoon and usually on the way home in 1-2 days. Be sure to rest as needed once home, but walk when you can. It really does help get rid of the gas pain that you may have from the surgery. I found that sleeping in a recliner really helped too. Easier to get back up when you need to. Follow your dr'spost-op diet very closely and you will see some amazing results. Good luck....Dave
  19. For me its FF cottage cheese mixed with natural no-sugar applesauce. Its easy to cary when i'm running around and the mini packs are just right.Actually, I end up not finishing it, but I get all I need/want
  20. Way to go prinsesst. I was banded a week after you and scheduled my 2nd fill for 11/13. So far, no restriction, but I can live with that. Maybe this time.......
  21. My surgeon required the pre-op weight loss for 2 reasons. One, to shrink the liver prior to surgery to make positioning the band easier and the second was to see how committed I was to a new way of life and new way of eating. CajonCutie, what kind of program are you on? I did protein shakes for 2 meals a day and one SMALL meal, usually fish or soup, and you will lose your required weight. Just make sure the protein shakes are not high in calories/carbs Good luck, It really is worth it

Finally, something to slow me down

Wow, awesome idea.I will give one of these a try. I do ok until I go out with others and they are eating soooo fast and then they end up waiting for me.
  23. Jenny, the mushie stage is pretty hard for some people. I limited my meals to 3 oz total. Also, even though it tastes good, the ice cream will not fill you up because it melts and turns to liquid, passing thru the band. Make sure you are getting a lot, more than you think you need, of liquid (water, crystal light etc) and it may help with the hunger. Even though I am on full food now, I still keep my one meal daily at a low amount and make up for it with 2 protein shakes....
