Sweet4422- the one year mark can be tough! Don't get discouraged though! I am one year out on March 12th and 130 lbs down and if I am really honest I don't get much official exercise, but I stay active, and busy. Make sure you are drinking a lot of liquids- we forget how important irrigation is to the weight loss process, but remember the early days when you were often thirsty and it was a necessity to drink. Up your liquid intake and also, consider lightening your meals- not in portion size but in substance. Like I actively avoid all sugars, I eat foods that I know are supposed to increase metabolism (bc that was a huge problem for me before) and I eat carbs but I'm picky about it, and to be truthful I never really went back to Pasta or rice or noodles or bread. I will eat sesame breadsticks, or goldfish crackers (which are salty but a treat) or whole grain brown rice- and those are eaten once in a while. I allow for some carbs in my diet, but I prefer healthy carbs like red kidney Beans over my salad that count as a complex carb-meaning they have Protein and carbs giving you twice as much energy. Lately, and sorry for the over-share, I noticed that I get a huge chocolate/sugar craving. Well I use sugarless torani syrups and made my own chocolate at home. The other night I wanted to make a crock pot meal and the original recipe called for a packet of onion Soup mix-which is loaded with sodium. Also, beef granules which are again packed with sodium! I decided instead to make a home made salt-free version of the onion soup package, with just as much flavor, and opted instead for sodium free granule packets- the meal came delicious! I still added salt, but this way I controlled totally the amount of salt in the dish! I know it's hard, but little stuff^^ like that really helps! I work full time and go to school full time for my masters, I fell into the dangerous pool of takeout one too many times, so on Weekends I cook and make a healthy meal I can nibble on all week-roast chicken, crock pot steaks/stews (these chewier, more sinewy meats are easier for me to consume when they've been sitting in a crock pot all day), roasted vegetables, etc. Please message me if you have any questions and best of luck on your journey~ ! -

yea March sleevies! My surgery was March 12 at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) and I'm down 75 lbs as of today! 75lbs in 15 weeks and down from a 22 to a 16. -

Hey I honestly hope everything goes off without a hitch and I wish you all the best! Just trying to be realistic because I never expected my own surgery to get canceled. Anyway, every surgeon intubates. You have to whenever anesthesia is given because your muscles relax to the point where you won't breath. The intubation is when they put the tube down your throat so you breathe during surgery, as long as anesthesia is being used, you're being given a breathing tube. But it's been 10+ days now so as long as you don't have buckets of muscus in your esophagus/nose or chest congestion, I'm sure they'll do it. Besides, they will check you out at the hospital and once you're on the table, and once they administer your anesthesia, they'll open your mouth to put the breathing tube down and they'll know right away whether they can continue or not. his though, Best of luck! Don't focus on though, just focus on your fabulous recovery and the journey ahead of yoU! -

I called my surgeons office day of surgery and she didn't ask if I even had a fever. As a matter of fact I vounteered the information for her and she said it didn't matter, she said the only thing that mattered was if I was bringing up flem, because they wouldn't put a breating tube down my throat if I was secreting mucus. If you're not honest about it with them, then they'll get you prepped for surgery, look dwon your throat, see the mucus and just stop the procedure. Tell them about whatever existing symptoms you have day of surgery. For your own benefit. -
Internal Bleeding

Thank you everyone for all of the answers and support! I called my surgeon's office today and she said the bright red blood was indicative of bleeding near the rear and not from inside my sleeve/body. That type of blood would have been dark red and tar like. Also, she asked if the pain was when I was moving or sitting and I said I felt it most when I was moving around and she asked on a level of 1-10 how bad it was. I told her it was about a solid 8, but I only felt it when I was moving around, specifically when I was lifting my arms over my head and stretching. She had I probably caused a tear or a muscle strain because an intenral bleed would be painful even while sitting or laying down. She said it could take a few weeks to heal and it wasn't from surgery. Here's hoping. Thanks everyone for advice! -
Internal Bleeding

Okay, because it was asked the pre-exisiting condition was a hermoroid, which sometimes bleed and I think that it what happened yesterday. I'm not bleeding now when I go to the bathroom, just checked. Also, the pain is located above my belly button and I feel it when I lift my arms above my head and stretch while standing. -
Okay, yesterday I went to the bathroom and there was blood in the toliet bowl, but it was bright red and I figured it was from a pre-existing condition that I had before weight surgery. I'm a little over two weeks out from Gastric Sleeve and I'm having very bad abdominal pain in my stomach. I don't know if I slept on my stomach or something last night, but I woke up with more pain than I've experienced post surgery. Am I bleeding internally? It's really a lot more pain than I experienced directly after surgery. Thoughts and ideas?

I got bronchitis the DAY before my originally scheduled surgery in December. The nurse said they will not incubate if you have any flem. If you're coughing up any secretions or blowing a lot. They can't put the breathing tube in you during surgery. Cold should have cleared up by now, maybe try antibiotics? However, as long as you don't have a lot of mucus coming up, I think they'll do it. Mine was canceled. -

Hey Fuff, SO I am just out of surgery, so I can't speak for myself, but I am hopeful. I'm the 7th person in my family to have this done, but out of those 6 other people, my younger cousin and I are the only young ones who did the surgery. First off my cousin was 22 when she had the surgery and she doesn't need any skin removal surgery. Her weight was 315 when she went in for surgery and she has lost 140 pounds in 15 months. However, she exercises like a demon. I mean I have watched her literally bicycle across state lines, I'm not kidding here. Age and exercise make all the difference in this recovery period. A lot of older relatives in my family have had the surgery, but they were in their 50’s and even though they had lose skin, it wasn’t a pressing matter. If you’re under 30, there is still a lot of elasticity in your skin and you have a better chance of not needing surgery. However, age alone is not enough to combat the sagginess of skin. You need to be exercising constantly to ensure that the most amount of excess weight will be eliminated. -
First Pureed Meal - Am I Full?

Tonight was my first meal since surgery too! I used a hand blender to blend up tomato soup and low fat sour cream (to make it more creamy) and then I served up exactly 4 ounces of it. I am pretty sure now that I might be lactose intolerant if my bodys reaction was any indication. I'm hoping the sour cream may have just been too dairy rich on an otherwise totally empty stomach. Either way though, to answer you question, I had no idea if I was full or not. I think I'm full now because I don't feel uncomfortable, but very sated and I couldn't even think of eating something. -

I used Dr. Trivedi, a link to more info about him is on my profile. I'm like the 7th person in my family to have this done and most of those 7 relatives used Trivedi, but Trivedi is part of a practice that features all bariatric surgeons. I think he's a very good doctor, but his front desk staff is extremely rude and incapable of getting anything done, you have to be very proactive and extremely on top of them. There's only a handful of nice people working in that office.

My surgeon did not require a pre-op liquid diet. My surgeon actually did Lisa Lampanelli's weight loss surgery as well as a few NJ housewives. Due to that, I felt confident in his abilities and his decision to not do a liquid diet before surgery. However, now that I'm almost two weeks post-op, I have to say I kind of wish I had done one. He didn't tell me that I had to maintain my weight, or eat healthy or make any diet changes before surgery. Due to that as well as a mix of stress and fear over the surgery, I went on a last meal binge like a month before surgery, and I actually gained 20 lbs. I kind of told myself, if I'm going to spend the next year doing strict dieting and watching, the way I've struggled and spent my entire life, then I should utilize this period to enjoy some liberal eating. I never eat the way I ate before surgery and the evidence was there in my weight. I also wish I had done a pre-op diet because it was such a shock to go from eating, to sipping and drinking all of my meals. So yea, long story short, my surgeon didn't require it, but in hindsight I think I might have benefited.
