    Just started preop liquids

I've been on the liquid diet for a few days now. My unjury unflavored Protein arrived today, and I mixed a package w/ my favorite drink (Cranberry juice), and that what the worst tasting "unflavored" thing I've ever tried! Blahhhhhhhhhh....

    Liquid Diet :(

I am right there with ya! I have found myself craving salad (of all things). Just trying to get those thoughts out of my head. We can do this!

    June 18th Sleevers?

I am on the 19th, but I started my pre-op diet yesterday. My doctor only required me to do one week, but I started a couple of days early, and I am so glad I did. I messed up yesterday when I realized none of the Protein drinks I have purchased fit the guidelines my doctor has given. I have been using them but plan to make a trip to the health food store tomorrow. Anyway, yesterday was hard, but I think it was mostly in my head. I am more resolved today and have tried to stay busy. It actually hasn't been too bad today.
  6. I am scheduled for the 19th! Not long...
  7. Thank you for starting this thread. My surgery is scheduled for June 19th and although I have been glued to this site for months, I still feel overwhelmed when I think about preparation. I live in a remote area, so simply running out and picking up something afterwards is not an option. The hospital I will be having my surgery at is 4 hours away, and my surgery is outpatient, so I will leave the hospital the same day as my surgery and stay overnight in a nearby hospital. I am a bit apprehensive about what to have on hand for that 1st night in the hospital. My husband will be with me, and he is a wonderful caregiver. If anyone veterans have any suggestions for that first night in the hotel room?
  8. My surgery will be outpatient. I am also self-pay. The hospital is four hours away, so I will be staying the first night in a hotel across the road from the hospital. I have mixed feelings. I hate hospitals at night, and my husband is an excellent caregiver when I need him. I have a high tolerance for pain, so that part doesn't worry me. I do worry about dehydration. If anyone else was outpatient, I welcome advice. :-)

    Hospital Stay Question

This eases my mind tremendously! Thank you!

    VETS - packing list help?

My surgery will be done on an outpatient basis, so I will be staying in a hotel for a couple of days after leaving the hospital since I am traveling about 4 hours to my doctor. Any advice on what nutritional supplies I should take for those days?

    How is everyone doing?

Hi Jessileigh. Thanks for responding. My surgery is set for mid June. I am self pay, so mine will be done as an outpatient procedure. I am a little nervous about that, but I was very impressed with Dr. Miles. I will be glad to get the surgery part behind me. I am trying to prepare myself mentally, but it's hard to imagine how things will be on the other side.

    Hospital Stay Question

I am self-pay and will leave the hospital the night of my surgery.
  13. I am getting so discouraged. I am mentally and physically exhausted from being overweight. My insurance company has an exclusion clause, so I must pay for my surgery. My dilemma is finding a hospital with financing. I am in the Atlanta area, and I have found a couple of very reputable doctors who have financing available, but the hospital does not. That means, I must come up with $10,000 for the hospital before I can have the surgery, and that is just an impossibility. Has anyone else had this issue? Suggestions? I just feel so trapped in this body....
  14. Has anyone used this group of surgeons? Any feedback or reviews would be awesome! Thanks!

    How is everyone doing?

Congrats! This is an amazing decision you've made! Its not near as scary as I built it up to be in my mind. I'm still not getting in the full 60g of protein every day somedays I do some days I don't. The protein shake doesn't sit well on my stomach so I try to get it in other ways. As far as advice all I have is listen to your nut and dr. about everything and start training your brain now to take small bites of food and to eat more slowly. If you eat to big of bites too fast its painful. This is something you just have to learn as you go for the most part. I'm still lost on lots of things lol but if you ever have any questions just ask there is always someone out there who went through the same thing who can help you out! And good luck with everything! So glad to hear you are doing well and off to a great start! I have my first consult w/ Dr. Miles in a few days, and I am so apprehensive and excited all at the same time. I'd love to hear more about your experience w/ Dr. Miles, the hospital, etc. Take care of yourself and happy losing! :-)
  16. Thanks to each of you for your advice and suggestions. I'm so thankful for this site. Everyone's support and understanding is a both a comfort and an inspiration.
  17. Does anyone have a suggestion on an Atlanta surgeon? I hope to have my sleeve done in mid June. I am a self-payer, so I can't afford to go to several doctors and pay for consultations.

    Georgia

I am just in the beginning stages of this process and looking for a surgeon in the Atlanta area. I have researched several, and now my brain is simply boggled! Dr. John Daly performed a rather complicated surgery on my husband that went really well, but I'm not sure he does sleeves. I have also looked into Dr. Macik. I would love to hear about others experience with their surgeons or any suggestions you might have. Thanks in advance for your advice.

    Telling the family?!?

I am a teacher and hope to have my sleeve done over the summer break. I plan to tell no one. My husband knows and is on board 100% with whatever brings me happiness. I do not worry about him being judgmental, and I figure it is no one else's business.
  20. I am in the very beginning stages of this process. I have decided I definitely want the procedure. Since my insurance has an exclusion, and I will be self pay, can someone give me an idea of how long the wait will be before I can actually have it done? Is the waiting period for insurance purposes only?
