Feeling fat while actually thin?@? WTH

it has only been six and a half weeks post op for me and I know that I've lost 34 lbs since my first consultation with the doctor but I feel my same self...like nothing has changed until i got a glimpse of myself in the store glass while shopping and i suddenly realised that i really DID look different.... even at this early stage. My clothes are getting loser..... it's all a mental image that we have in our minds..... And surely it's not a physical thing. If we keep thinking that we are the same and that we are still obese then I'm afraid that we will slip back into old habbits and make it happen again.... obesity if that makes sense. I'm trying to prepare myself for the day when the scales say.... Hey you are at your goal weight and then my alter ego says... No you'er not.... you will always be fat....... It's a struggle of the mind vs. the body.... Just keep looking in the mirror anytime you feel that way or look at your before and after pics..... you will soon get over it then.....

    February Sleevers.... Check in!

@Darianna75 I got so excited about deli thin shaved meat but when I tried to eat it, it was a no go..... I couldn't swallow it at all and it just didn't taste good to me anymore.... funny how things I love before, i can't really tolerate or even LIKE now...... Now with the chicken salad .... Here is what i do .... now you might want to do it differently. I really don't love boiled chicken so I buy a roitessere chicken. Then I take off the skin on the breast portion and take my fork and mash it very small....then add greek yogurt and half light mayo with dry ranch dressing seasonings (hidden valley) I tsp mustard, and dill pickly relish. I make it very moist. I can't eat a lot at a time.... only two ounces maybe and a few cracker crisps if i feel like it.... I ate this almost every day for a week. I thought I'd take a break from the chicken salad for a while but i really can't tolerate meat that isn't in some very soft or pureed form. I heard it will eventually get better.

    Exercises for lower belly

I have the same thing.... from having five children... I think And not losing all my baby weight with the last baby years ago...... Not sure what excercises will really helfp THAT much..... I'm thinking surgery will be the only way. it's funny because i lose good in my waist. I have a smaller upper section...... waist. but my bottom half is not proportioned somehow..... I hate that. My daughter says that i look thin from the waist up...... I'm going to have to concentrate on my lower body exercises LOL

    February Sleevers.... Check in!

PS. I stayed in the Hospital for four days because of nausea and vomitting as well..... I was on two antinausea meds. Reglan was the only thing that helped but they sent me home with something else. I haven't taken it since i came home....I hope i don't have to again.

    February Sleevers.... Check in!

@Darianna75 I have the same problem with drinking.. it's hard sometimes and I continuosly burp and hiccup..... I guess we react the same. I hope we can both get past this.... I had to go back to liquids today as my stomach was so upset.... if i drink more than a sip at a time .... it hurts going down and then i have to keep burping..... I don't know how long it will take for us to be able to eat regular food then? The chicken salad was easy and even the very thin cracker crisps that disovlve in your mouth...... I can eat oatmeal, cottage cheese yoghurt easily. Sometimes the scrambled eggs don't go down good either..... I was happy when i could progress to ground meat but i cannot really tolerate it or anything chewy whatsoever...... ughhh........ I'm glad I'm not alone in this too..... I was starting to wonder what was wrong withme. I am supposed to be going to the next phase in another week but doubt if I'll make it if I can't get past the meat and veggies now..... very discouraging.... Oh well back to cottage cheese etc...... Hope I lost more.... haven't weighed myself since week five when i lost a totalof 34 lbs since i first went to the doctor.
  9. six and a half weeks post op.... Now the nausea returns once again... ugh...

    Not tolerating protein?

Stay on the clear diet.... I could barely get any Protein drinks in at all right after surgery On the fourth or fifth day I could just take four or five sips of it..... I am six weeks out and I almost hate the Protein shakes now.... ugh...

    February Sleevers.... Check in!

@Darianna75 I am so glad that you posted this. I felt so alone in this reading how well some others are tolerating different phases of the diet. I had surgery on Feb.26 and just got off the pureed foods. I am not doing well addings solid foods of any kind. I tried some grilled chicken and broccoli yesterday and felt like it was stuck in my chest... and could hardly get it down without feeling nauseous. I couldn't even finish just a small amount. It was chicken tenderloin at that and I chewed it up good and the broccoli for some reason didn't taste good to me like i thought it would. I better go back to the ground meat and chicken salad.. I almost puree the chicken and there are no chunks in it. I have trouble with toast a little too. I'm frustrated and feel like I'll never be able to eat regular food again. I was so looking forward to eating veggies now. I tried a little bit of cantalope today and chewed it up good (i thought)then the nausea kicked in and this time I actually vomitted it all up. I'm calling the nurse line tomorrow because i don't seem to be able to progress right to the next food level... I feel like I've taken two steps forward and three steps back again. Now I had yoghurt again today.... that seems to always be a safe food forme...... it goes down easy.... it is low carb and no fat greek yoghurt btw. I'm so frustrated now...... It's comforting to see (i guess) that I'm not alone in this..... I should have known.... I started out in the hospital with severe nausea and vomitting..... I have some anti nausea pills but i hate to be dependent on that. I need to know what foods i can tolerate and which ones that i can't ...... thanks for listening.... Any other Feb sleevers with this problem at six weeks post op???
  12. I had my surgery on February 26... the gastric sleeve. All during my consultations prior to surgery I was never told quite how bad I would feel after surgery. All I heard was that you'd probably not feel a lot of pain after surgery and would be able to get up and walk the same day. What??? I wish someone would have prepared me for what was to follow. I went into this thinking that this would be somewhat of an easy operation. Listen ITS MAJOR SURGERY....... WITH MAJOR SUGICAL RISKS.... DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY. i Think if I had been clear of some of the real life side effects would have been that it wouldn't have been such a shock to me when i woke up after surgery in so much pain. After I woke up from surgery I had a stabbing pain on my left shoulder and under my breast. The first thing I thought of 'my heart' but the nurses said the pain was from the carbon dioxide that they use in surgery to fill your abdoment with gas to be able to view all the internal organs more clearly. my surgery was done laporoscopic so I didn't have a large wound on my abdomen. The wounds themseves caused me no discomfort due to the long acting anesthesia that the doctor injected into the abdomenal wall by the incisions that lasts for three days. I couldn't understand why i felt so horrible. Now all my pre op tests indicated that my heart was in GREAT shape.... I had the echocardiogram done and the stress test then a couple EKG's before surgery that were all normal. I had the Pulmonary Function Test, The sleep apnea studies (i do not have sleep apnea) blood tests and the Egd.... yes they did say that i had a small hiatal hernia that would be repaired during this surgery. SO i didn't understand why my Blood pressure skyrocketed after surgery and stayed high during my stay even with blood pressure medicatons. My heart rate was dangerously high. I had severe nausea. I couldn't even drink Water sometimes and the Protein drink made me sick and I vomitted it along with Jello and nasty chicken broth. the only thing that i could half way eat without extreme nausea was the sugar free popsicles and sips of hot tea...(but it had to be hot and not cold) I couldn't even take my liquid medicine without taking two different anti nausea pills beforehand. I gagged when i tried to take it because the taste was so nasty.... Liquid Lortab after surgery...... ughhhh what are they thinking? I couldn't even fathom walking in the hall the first day. All I wanted to do was to sleep and take my pain meds. I only walked from my bed to the bathroom and back several times a day. I had nurses coming in every two hours around the clock either taking my blood pressure, sticking my finger with a needle to test my blood sugar (standard testing there for WLS ptsl) taking my temp. putting meds in my Iv etc etc...... I did have the test where they took me down to X ray the following day and made me swallow a milky substance (lucky i didn't vommit it up) to allow them to see the fld as it went down into my sleeve to test for leaks..... I had NO leaks thank God. I felt hot all the time in the hospital but didn't have a fever. My face was flushed. They told me to keep using the spirometer so I wouldn't get Pneumonia. I tried to do it as much as possible. they said i had to be able to drink a lot of water before they could send me home. I ended up staying in the Hospital for four days.... not one like promised. I felt like a train wreck.... I know everyone is different but I think everyone should be warned of WHAT COULD HAPPEN...... and not go into this lightly thinking it's a piece of cake. I went home on the forth day still feeling horrible.... still with high blood pressure and now on meds for it (i did not have high blood pressure before surgery) Still in pain.... Now the surgical sight is aching as the long acting med done locally has worn off. Still can't take the lortab liquid without feeling nauseated....... Still sleeping most of the time but now at least I was able to drink more water and maybe a half of a Protein shake. I felt better after seven days when i went back to the doctor but was still very weak..... still on liquids. Now I am six weeks out and finally feeling more normal again and happy I went through this.... BUT the hard work is still ahead. This surgery is NOT magic...... you have to follow the guidelines and instructions they give you or you won't be successful....... I am on phase 3 diet and have lost over 20 lbs since surgery...... I t is still Hard..... and had nausea today after eating scrambled eggs. I am not trying to scare anyone but be prepared, ask questions.... This surgery is NOT easy.... don't ever believe what some people say here..... I just don't go into this thinking it's easy ,cause it's NOT......... I'd still do it again...... No pain, No gain....... well I don't want to gain lbs just good health........

Gaining 3 weeks post op !

Gaining 3 weeks post op !

watch your sodium in your food. And cut down on carbs if you are eating them make sure that you are not adding fats to your diet.... it will cause your weight loss to stop...... that's what the Dietcian advised us. ARe you using regular mayo in your tuna salad..... it's high in fat. You may just be retaining Fluid. Try drinking more Water and see what happens and go back to the Protein shakes for one day with one light meal maybe? IDK we are all learning here.....

    March 2014 Sleevers

No bread!! Peanut Butter will most likely sit very heavy in your sleeve also. Have eggs, Refried Beans, Greek Yogurt, Cottage Cheese instead @@Clinton6 no bread really my dr said crackers you think that would be okay I fig bread over crackers? oh and do you think I could do cream cheese and jelly! eggs yessss!!! thank you first of all you cannot eat bread at this point. It would be hard to get down. I wasn't allowed 'toast' until phase 3 after I finished with the pureed phase that lasted four weeks. It's strange how every doctor has different food allowances on different phases. I can tell you this, the first time i tried toast it felt like it got stuck half way down. I had to take a sip of Water (I know that's a no no) but that was the only way it'd go down. I only use the PB2 which is 85%less fat than regular PB. you will not lose weight if you start eating regular PB a lot. I use the Kelloggs cracker crisps..... they are so light and airy that they almost melt in your mouth and you can eat more of those because they are only 35 calories for like 15 of them and low in carbs. I never eat 15 though lol........ I eat them with home made chicken salad. I had a piece of low carb bread yesterday at 35 calories a slice with some of the PB2 on it but I am almost six weeks post op and I still have to take it slow with toast. Please be careful.
  16. @magtart I am sorry that you took offense at my statement.... I should reword this in a better way Don't listen to everything you hear about the WLS because everyone reacts to surgery in a different way. It's personal. It's just hard for me to believe that anyone could come out of this without suffering is hard to comprehend. I still am having problems with eating. Today has been particularly rough...... I'm having trouble getting down cottage cheese even..... I'm six weeks post op today..... I will say this is keeping me compliant for sure....I couldn't cheat to save my life and I don't have any leaks or any other problems with the sleeve itself.... I had a great follow up appointment and the NP said I was doing great and hardly any scars at all..... The surgeon did a great job with the surgery..... It's just me and how I reacted to it. Again..... No offense intended and I am NOT calling anyone a liar. I just meant for people not to judge all the stories about non problematic symptoms after WLS with a grain of salt because everyone is different.... Sorry if you were offended.

@Victronica are the soups low sodium though..... have to be careful with sodium. It causes water retention and could cause a stall..... I love soup. I make my own and just have the broth....

@Terribj I agree!!! The sugar free popsicles are GREAT..... now don't get the fruit juice pops.... they wrecked havoc on my stomach....... the bomb pops.... sugar free are a heaven sent.....
  21. @law001 That's the funny thing.... I no longer need the blood pressure meds now..... I have NEVER had surgery in my life...... and was told I was healthy enough for the surgery after enduring all the pre op tests...... Maybe my age has something to do with it ..... I'm almost 60 and have Rheumatoid Arthritis Also I think the more overweight you are makes a huge difference as well..... I started at 333 lbs. The doctor thinks that it was a 'STRESS reaction to surgery' this is what he told me happened to me. There is no way of telling if someone will have this or not. It could happen to anyone but at least i had great care in the hospital and they watched me very carefully and did everything possible to control my blood pressure and nausea..... I am feeling good now at six weeks out. I don't ever want to forget how i suffered to get to this point and will always use this new tool to lose all my weight so i can get healthy again. Hopefully when I lose 100 lbs i can get my knee replacement and get my life back finally......
  22. @RJ'S/beginning I am happy for those two that didn't have to suffer like I did. I only found out about this site after sugery. If i had know how bad i would have reacted to this surgery, I probably would not have done it though. good thing in a way that i suffered so much because now my motto is 'I didn't go through this for nothing' and it keeps me in compliance. I don't know what all happened to you but i k now my post op experience was a nightmare. My daughter told me oh mom it couldn't have been worse than having four kids..... I said YES it most definitely was worse. At least after labor pains are over I always felt good afterwards and relieved and happy with a new baby..... My weight loss now will be like my 'newborn' self.... A new start.... A new beginning for me. I wish I'd found this site sooner, it would have helped a lot...... Thanks...
  23. @ChristyAZP ps..... I can never take NSAIDS EVER again after the steeve. I'm looking into natural anti inflamatory herbs to help...... there are a lot of them plus i take routing pain meds that are not in the category of NSAIDS.......
  24. @ChristyAZ I have RA and had gotten so much better after getting the Orencia infusions.... I refuse to EVER take prednisone again EVER...... That is one big reason that i gained so much weight to start with not mentioning all the side effects that prednisone can cause including high blood pressure and diabetes and Water retention etc. etc. I had to go off the Orencia three months before surgery so that i would heal properly after surgery as the Orencia lowers the immune system response which helps control RA. My doctor was all for the operation as he knows that the extra weight has been hard on my joints. He has seen me struggle with weight loss and gains over the years and knows that I have tried very hard on my own and I did lose 60lbs on my own with dieting alone. Since surgery the pain has come back but i plan to soon get back on my Treatment for RA. There are so many great meds now to help with RA I'm surprised your doctor has not reccomended them.. Prednisone just masks the symptoms and is NOT a cure. I move so much better since I've lost 33 lbs.... it's amazing really. The more I lose will only make me be able to move around even better. I still am facing knee surgery as well. My knees are shot but I'm on the road to recovery now to get my health back and I couldn't be happier..... Good Luck Ps... maybe you need to get another Rheumatologist??

I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)

I would if I knew them lol Its not something I kept track of honestly I just knew I lost weight every time I was weighed and that was good enough for me. The only time I happen to write anything down was when I was 2 months 8 days out and I had lost 106lbs in that time 119lbs pre and post overall. On the 20th I was at the docs and I was down another 11lbs, which took me under 200lbs and a total overall weight loss to date both pre and post op of 227lbs How on earth did you lose 106 lbs in two months and eight days? Amazing!!! I have never heard anyone that lost this much in such a short time.
