  1. Long story short I had surgery in 2005 and was very successful for the first 2 years losing approx 85 lbs. About 3 years out my port was leaking slowly and fills were not working as well, some weight gain with that. I had surgery to change the port I thought this would solve the problem. It did not I have been getting fills every month and gaining approx 3-5 lbs a month. I am now 35lbs or so from my pre surgery weight and the rate I'm going I will be there again in a few months. I am an xray tech and brought in a film of me drinking barium and my doctor said I was too tight and took some out, why then am I gaining weight I asked? I went this last week and the PA refused to fill me prob because I stated I had a hard time with eggs that morning, although I ate a full turkey dinner on Thanksgiving leading me to believe, not tight enough, spontanious tightening I think. The PA then said "WOW I have never seen anyone gain like this, maybe you need to see a pyschologist, HEE HEE! Don't we all. Being totally honest I do not eat perfectly, by my count I am averaging 1000 cal a day, and not as much protien as I should get because it's harder to get down. I would have rather spent the 6 grand on credit card bills. I guess it's back to diet pills, trainers and weight watchers and another billion bucks!! Signed SUPER DISCOURAGED!!!

getting my first fill w/dr Spiegel

Donna, ABSOLUTLY!!! If your fill is done under fluoro, I feel it is more productive, but any fill at this point is going to cause restriction. Don't worry I gained weight during the month or so between surgery and my first fill. Just be sure to follow your Dr's instructions and take it slow. Good Luck!
  3. I don't know about you guys, I can't throw up. I mean I have had PB's before with the slime and all, but sometimes have felt like I needed to throw up and couldn't. As I see it in my eyes that's good because my surgeon says I shold NOT be vomiting at all. See your doc!

getting my first fill w/dr Spiegel

Good Luck with your first fill....and yes I'm part of a cattle drive too...:couch2: I was banded April '05 and have had several fills since and have realized that my body is changing so much that it's a new ball game every time. I just make sure to take it really slow at first and then eventually I'll figure it out. Then watch the pounds fall. Best to you!

    diet soda...

I can sympathize...I was banded April 14th and before that was a diet coke-a-holic and I drank diet coke right up until surgery. Since surgery I just quit and started drinking crystal light and Decaf Iced tea....about a week ago I thought I could have a few sips of caff free diet coke....FLAT....and let me tell you it was nothing to write home about...didn't taste very good and gave me that real full burpy feeling, even flat...so that's all it took...no more for me...I'll tell you it didn't take long for the withdrawl from caffine went away...a few days...just find a replacement you really like...good luck to you...
  6. Hi guys and gals, I'm new to all this including the Lap Band....I had the VG Band (10cc band)placed April 14th and had my 1st fill today. 4.5 cc's and am feeling quite a bit of restriction now(even water), which I never really had before because the band is bigger. I'm on liquids today and soft foods tomorrow and when I feel good about those can move on to regular food which is also a 1st. After watching the barium trickle through my band after the fill how will food ever fit? I am absolutly scared to put anything in my mouth for fear of vomiting or getting something stuck, being 1 month post op that sounds like quite a violent act to be a part of. Any suggestions on how to manage this transition phase? I also have noticed I get hiccups alot more now, what's up with that? Thanks for posting I've learned so much already

    1st fill today...questions

I understand about nsaids...had reflux for years and was always told only when needed!!! I was told by my surgeon after surgery, with major bouts of constipation from pain pills that I could take aleeve instead. Maybe that was because at that point my band was wide open...or because I'm still taking nexium...but have never gotten relief from Tylenol, good thing I'm not much of a "pill popper", but I will definatly take heed to your advice and talk to her about it next time...guess why thats it's such a controversial subject these days...because they work....well I'll just hope for no more pain!!

    Who can feel their port?

I can feel my port when I am standing up and everything falls down (damn gravity) my doctor says there are different ways to position your body so they can find the port and of course as we lose weight it will get progressivly easier. Good luck to you

    1st fill today...questions

Thanks to everyone for replying...I think the hardest thing for me is that I don't know my own body, and these fills change everything I just learned...but the pay off is great!!! I feel much better today restriction wise, I had an episode earlier where I was having contraction like pains lt side up high, kind of under my ribs in to my chest, seemed to start near the port, I took aleve and it went away...the only thing I can think is since surgery was only 1 month ago I'm sure the port is still a sensitive area and accessing it just caused some swelling/irritation. Still on soft foods and protien going to wait a few days to start anything else, maybe the weekend when I'm home alone. Not looking forward to the PB's I"m gonna try my darndest to see that it doesn't happen, but I do feel like I really need to burp....walking seems to help with the super full feeling. Thanks everyone
