It sounds like the program up there is very different! I have been weighed every time I go for any thing. -

Why do you have to get up so early?? They must have made an earlier class cause I take the 9AM on Thursdays in Clairmont. Where are you taking your classes? I had two options of start dates April 3rd for a 4pm class or May 15 for a 7pm class. I wanted to start as soon as I can so I took the April 3rd class. But that means I have to leave work ealry, so that means I have to go in to work early So I will have to be at work by 0545 :-D (I am a contractor, and also own the company) So there is no paid time off or any thing like that, if I don't provide the services I don't get to bill. So going in early to make up the hours is a must. Oh yeah and I will also be at the Clairmont location. -

That's awesome!! Congrats!! Dr. Ray basiclly said if I don't gain any weight I should be okay, but I am still going to try and loose the %10. I start my classes April 3rd. I would love to get together for coffee, or meet for a walk? I don't know if you are interested in a support buddy or not. -

Oh good!! I am getting very excited for the process to get going! I am also signed up for the seminar that I will also be required to attend at Pacific Bariatric. The seminar is the day before I start my class, I know most people go when it gets closer but I just can't wait. I want to have evey thing done now, and as much information as I can. Do you know when you get your date? Is it after you complete the last class or do you get a date before?

How to tell your friends and family that you are having WLS surgery
PinkPolkadot619 replied to Mellie May's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for the advice!! I invited my brother to the orientation that I'm required to go to at Pacific bariatric, that is where Kaiser outsources their bariatric surgery. I'm hoping the information coming from someone else will be helpful for him to understand and possibly accept. Thank you so much for the suggestion, I would've never thought to invite him. The seminar is on April 2nd and he said he would do his best to be there. -
How to tell your friends and family that you are having WLS surgery
PinkPolkadot619 replied to Mellie May's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kendra, I am so sorry for how your brother responded to you. I know how you feel unfortunately, I have a big brother and little sister, and My brother and I really have been on the outs for a very long time in fact we haven't really talked to each other (not that I haven't tried) in over 12 years he doesn't approve of my lifestyle, not that I live any crazy way. I am involved in a mixed racial relationship with a puerto rican, and he doesn't approve. I had children with a puerto rican and he doesn't approve, and my kids he will talk to and play with but he won't speak to me and we live approx. 15 min. from each other. I know this has nothing to do with the way your brother treated for what your doing, but in life we have to do what is right and good for us, we can't live to please everyone else. We were born with our own body, brain and life, to live it without concern of others who are in our lives. I know it's hard cause he is your big brother, and trust me I think about my brother daily, but I can't control the way he thinks about me no more than you can control your brother. I love my brother and always will, but I am not going to let his negativity bring me down. I will continue to live my life the way I want. As for the Detox, what works for some doesn't work for everyone. If he doesn't understand maybe ask him to go to one of your doctors appointments and show him what it's all about. Maybe he will change his mind. He might just be worried??? Well Good Luck!!! He said he wants to talk more later and tried to back peddle and become supportive after I started crying. Maybe having him go to something with me where he can become educated and the information is not coming from me is the best idea. Thank you for that suggestion!! My brother and I are very close and my family is very open minded, but this I think took him by surprise, and his first response was to prevent me from doing it and didn't think about his words. But it's too late and his words hurt. They are not going to change my decision, just how much information I directly share with him. I would be devastated if my brother didn't talk to me for 12 years, I'm sorry and hope one day your brothers mind will be opened. -
That's good to hear!! I am worried the classes are just a formality for people and not in-depth discussions. This gives me some hope. thank you.

I am Sothern Ca Kaiser but they told me to expect 9 months Orentation to surgery date Feb 27- Orientation March 5- Blood work and EKG ordered March 5th&6th- I got ALL the labs done. March 11- Got the call to schedule the appt with Options Dr. March 12- appt with Options Dr for approval or denial (approved) March 13- Called with start date options for the 24 weeks of classes April 3 - Sept 11 Classes I was told aprox 6 weeks after last class for surgery date. But so far the time lines have not been the full time I was told, but I don't want to bank on that. I am hopeful it will end up more like 8 months Orientation to Surgery day, 7 and a half would make me super happy! but I will take whatever I get -

PinkPolkadot619 replied to Mellie May's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been telling people on a need to know basis, and a few that I knew would understand. But I didn't want my brother (whom I am very close to) to be the last to know. I am still 6-8 months out as I have Kaiser and have to complete 24 weeks of classes. But an opportunity presented it's self so I went for it.......It was just as bad as I had feared he told me he doesn't think I have tried hard enough to lose it naturally and I should just try a detox diet that and him and his GF are doing......yeah. I just cried and told him I'm not telling anyone else because of the judgment. It's hard to feel like I don't have my big brother in my corner on my side.....I'm pretty devastated. -

I was told as long as I don't gain weight it's okay, but to try my best for the %10. I hope my coach is a good one, it seems like there are some really good ones and some not good ones. My classes begin April 3, 2014 -

Hello to both of you! I am also in San Diego going thru the Kaiser program, I am wondering how long did you have to wait from your last class to surgery date?? I was just called with potential start dates for the classes and I am incredibly torn!! one date is a month sooner than the other but would make my days start VERY early. Decisions Decisions!!
