Hello! I'm a 35 year old mom to three boys. My oldest is 14 and the twins are 10. I live in a very small town in Northern CA, but drive a crazy commute every day to work in San Francisco as an Executive Secretary.
I've been heavy for as long as I can remember. I've tried every diet in the book without any long-term success. Really, the only time I was successful in being healthy was when I was pregnant! My boys weighed over 15 lbs combined and I gained 19 total! I've always been better about taking care of other people than I was taking care of myself.
This is what I've finally decided to change. I need to focus on my own health and happiness. It will make those around me healthier and happier by proxy! I had been thinking about having WLS for about 5 years, but the decision to act was spurred by finding out that my insurance might be changing and it may no longer be covered. I took the first step and it the process went extremely quickly. I've read some horror stories on this forum about wait times, appeals, etc. I was fortunate enough to have my surgery a little more that a month after my initial consult. My doctor was Dr. GreggI am now exactly 2 weeks post-op and feeling great! I did not have the issues with pain or gas that many have noted. Honestly, my toughest part was the full liquid diet for 2 weeks prescribed by my NUT. I cannot stand the taste of any protein shakes anymore. I was craving (not hungry by craving) anything and just about licked my family's dinner as I was serving it. I am now on soft foods for 2 weeks. The change has been amazing. I love to actually use utensils! (It's the small things).
I have lost 16 lbs since the day of my surgery and 40 lbs from my highest weight. I'm seeing some results and feeling great!
