Worried About a Possible Slip...
FatHannah replied to FatHannah's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh and thank you all for your responses! It means a lot :-) -
As anyone experienced a lap band slip? If so, what were your symptoms? Lately I have been having a very odd pain/pressure feeling near my largest scar (near my band). I haven't experienced this pain/pressure before. I am able to eat solid foods, but I am having some nausea. I have had some heartburn (nothing serious) that is easily treated with a Prilosec or a few Tums. I have a tendency to be a bit of a hypochondriac, but I do not want to let something go untreated and get worse. I have read that band slip symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, acid reflux, pain and trouble tolerating food and liquids. Since I am experiencing some of these symptoms, I am nervous that I have slipped my band. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Worried About a Possible Slip...

I plan to call my surgeon on Monday. I have a scheduled appointment on June 12th. So I guess I will see if he thinks I need to be seen before then. The scar reference was more for location. I understand the two are not connected. I just wanted to know of symptoms, as they seem to vary from person to person; severity too. -
Pre & Post surgery food
FatHannah replied to JumpRope's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor had me do each stage for a week or so... Clear liquids for the first few days, then full liquids, then smushies, then food. I would get some Sugar Free Jell-O and pudding. Yogurt, canned fruit (no grapes). Applesauce, broth, cream soups, puréed food (baby food), canned tuna. Various protein powders, low fat milk, sugar free Popsicles... Just some things I wanted on hand! :-) -
Need some good protein shakes
FatHannah replied to missyb10's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I m fond of Isopure "flavor free" Protein powder. It is low calorie, and since it is "flavor free" it can be mixed into all sorts if things. I like it in my coffee. I say "flavor free" because it does have a little flavor. It's like very muted dry coffee creamer. Also, here is one if my favorite shake recipes from my dietitian: 1 Cup Orange juice 2 Tablespoons fat free Cool Whip 1 Scoop vanilla Protein Powder 1-2 Packets Sweet-N-Low 6-7 Ice cubes (depends on the texture you want) Just like an Orange Julius. -
I had surgery about 6weeks ago. I went in for my first fill today and my doctor could not find my port. He stuck me twice, to no avail and then told me there was too much inflammation to do the fill. He told me to come back in two weeks. He didn't order an X-ray, and he didn't say anything about my port being flipped. Anyone else experience anything like this? If so, what were your results?

First fill, no fill...

Hahahaha! HealthyNewMe, my dad said the same thing! He was all "Well just get a tattoo of it so you know where it's at." Great minds think alike! -
First fill, no fill...

Hi everyone! Thank you for the responses. I went back to my doctor today to try to get my first fill (after my 2week waiting period). Again, he poked me and poked me and poked me... This time he poked me about 7 times. After he was unable to find it again, he told me I needed to wait two more weeks and "lose some more weight." I put my foot down. I know damn well he finds ports on people larger than me. I told him I wanted him to find it under fluro, and that I was not waiting two more weeks (I also have a 5 hour round trip commute every time I see him). He was sooooo reluctant to do the fluro! He kept telling me how expensive it was and how unnecessary it was. I told him I didn't care about cost, and that I was only going to get my fill with fluro. He agreed, but still seemed reluctant. So, I went under fluro and it turns out the area he "thought" my port was in was about 3 inches north of my actual port... Yeah. I was a little upset by this. To think he was blaming me for the problems! "You need to lose more weight" "Your body has too much inflammation" etc.,etc... When in all actuality he didn't know where the port was, and he was going to make me wait another two weeks. Who knows how long this would have gone on... I did finally receive my fill. I have 3ccs currently, and I am hellaciously sore where he poked me. Again, thanks for the responses! Don't let your doctor bully you! You have a right to know what's going on with your body! ???????????? -

My surgeon does his in his office. Ports can flip due to many different factors. I am ridiculously sore today due to him searching for the port with a needle. I'm actually grateful he only went in a couple of times. My surgeon doesn't fill under fluoroscopy... I guess that must vary from doctor to doctor. I assume he will next time if the inflammation isn't better and he is still unable to find the port. Who knows! I will keep you all posted when I see him again. Thanks for sharing. -
I found a "flavor free" protein powder that I enjoy. It tastes like a really muted version of dry coffee creamer. It is by IsoPure. 110 calories, 26g of protein. I wish I had known about it during my pre-op diet!
