Another April 9th sleever here! I just got my surgery check in time, ugh NOON! That will be rough with no Water before, I may stay up until midnight drinking! Pre-op diet has gone well, shakes + a protein/veg meal and stay under 870 cal a day. It's not easy but it's been a really good look at how my head deals with hunger and what I can say to myself in those low moments to stay on track.

That seems pretty doable! When do you start? How are you feeling about it?

Day 1 on LIQUID diet!
MelBooks replied to cammie8825's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just finishing up day 6. The first few days were easy and then I turned into a she-devil yesterday afternoon! That phase seems to have passed and today was much more pleasant. I'm just really tired, -
Starting Two Week Pre-OP Diet Today
MelBooks replied to vsg_joanna's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started mine on Sunday, so I'm toward the end of day 5 (of 10). The first few days were fine, I was hungry but not miserable. This afternoon, ugh. I've hit a wall. I'm SO lucky that I get a real meal in the evening of lean Protein and veg, but it's still hard. Grocery shopping for the family is tough too. It's funny though, I don't really want to eat anything because I know how important it is to follow directions, I just feel crappy. -
Trouble with pre-op diet
MelBooks replied to Nurse96's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this is a symptom of emotional eating with a healthy dose of self sabotage. My guess is you're going to be fine for your surgery but only if you can nip it in the bud now. One suggestion I would try to to keep a notebook or even the recorder option of your phone handy. Before you eat ANYTHING, take a minute or two to reflect on what it is and why it's going in your mouth. You may still make the less positive choice, but when you identify those moments where you're feeling out of control, you'll have more ammo to combat them in the future. Just think about 8-9 months from now where the physical deterrents from eating too much have gone away and you are simply left with your head making the decisions. You'll be happy for the practice now! -
April 9th is my date and big time nervous
MelBooks replied to nancy264's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm another April 9th sleeve buddy! I have a 10 day pre-op diet that is 3-4 shakes a day plus a small meal of Protein and veggies. Everything has to stay under 870 cals for the day. I've been taste testing caffeine free teas because warm liquids seem to keep me fuller longer. I also have a spreadsheet worked out to keep track of my calories and plan out my meals. I'm very much looking forward to my pre-planned dill pickle each day at 4:30 LOL! -
Telling people Im having weight loss surgery.
MelBooks replied to karinbuck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been coming around to this the past few days. I've shared that I will be having surgery with my closest girlfriends and they've been so supportive it made me cry! But, I have trust issues with my family (They're the kind of people who "joke" about things that are not funny by bringing up old stuff), and I'm not sure what to tell them. I live in a different state and only see them all a few times a year. If I am happy and comfortable with the decision, I feel like I can let any comments roll off my back. My sister will be staying with us to help take care of the kids, so I'll obviously tell her (right now she thinks it's hernia surgery), but again, trust issues make me wary. -
Protein shake alternatives (?)
MelBooks replied to angiem1973's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Would you be able to drink one that is closer to a juice? Syntrax Nectar is juice like (you mix it with water) or any of the unflavored ones that you could mix with a no calorie drink like Crystal Light. -
I had my refresher meeting yesterday (it's required by my insurance) and it was supposed to be with my surgeon, but ended up being with the nurse practitioner. She was great, but as I mentioned before, I have been dealing with some neurological issues and I really wanted to discuss them with my surgeon. Luckily, I was able to send her an email and she got back to me. She is in agreement with my neurologist that we can continue with surgery. Thank goodness! Now I just need to hear back from the NUT if I have to do the 7 or 10 day pre-op. I bet you guys can guess which one I'm hoping for!

Hi everyone, I'm new here but wanted to join this group. My surgery is scheduled for April 9th, but I've had to postpone it twice before now due to other medical issues (some neuro problems that are still undiagnosed). I meet with my surgeon again Tuesday, and my neuro has given me the go ahead. I just need to make sure my surgeon is cool with it!

Hi! I'm a long time lurker, and finally registered. My surgery date is April 9th as well! I've had to postpone it twice due to other medical issues (unrelated to weight), so I'm really hoping this day sticks! I meet with my surgeon again on Tuesday to talk over the most recent status.
