When did you start loving your sleeve?
lylabelle replied to tonyagetstiny's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Probably at about 3 months. Eating out wasn't too aweful, but by 3 months I was used to accepting a few bites and done. For a good 2+ years I loved that I could grab some chips and a few would be enough. I'd grab an Oreo and it would be enough. I would eat dinner and a small portion was great. The last few months have been harder. I fell in love with Pita chips and they are siders so I can do a Costco sized bag in 2 days. I'd portion a more 'normal' size plate for dinner and spend an hour nibbling. I'm hoping a sleeve reset I've just started gets me back to how I was at the beginning and I lost the 20lbs I've gained from my lowest number. You will love it soon! Enjoy the honeymoon 2 years. -
We are beginning week 6! We count surgery week as week 1 so everyone should be completing their 5th week of their brand new tummy! I've been traveling a lot the last few weeks and it is a HUGE eye opener to how little I can eat now. I survived a buffet by having a few bites of some different things, and paid for far too much money for meals that I couldn't take home leftovers and it looks like I didn't eat a thing off the plate. I think one of the hard things for me is that a plate of food comes and it looks so good and I want to devour it! I get slightly depressed I'll only get to enjoy a few bites. Yet after about 1/4 cup I'm stuffed and full and push the plate away and don't want another bite, which is AWESOME!! I'm assuming the odd depression right when the plate comes out will pass. At least when I'm at home I can box the left overs right away and then it might not seem so bad. I never thought much about the money being saved on food, but holy cow its gotta be a ton. So I'm curious... how many are sticking to super low carb, vs those who are just watching calories/letting restriction do its job. How many are working out a ton and how many are waiting? Whats your favorite meal at this point? And I'd like to continue habsi's question; what pills/multivitamins is everyone taking daily? devint I loved your idea for putting up averages etc!! I've added mine and included those who weighed in last week. Hopefully we can get everyone to weigh in Monday or Tuesday next week and see our numbers skyrocket! We are beginning week 6! Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers
lylabelle replied to lylabelle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all. The facebook group we had started still goes on. I think most of us slowed down to a crawl or stopped losing by February. I know my body kept changing for awhile but I haven't lost any weight in awhile. My doc wasn't all about suddenly becoming a perfect eater or someone who magically started working out. He fixed portion size. I certainly can eat double what I used to but it's much easier to control if I go crazy. If you are gaining track your calories and find out where they are going. It's impossible for me to eat a big dinner but snacks and candy go down easy. Lol. So if I stick with meat it's simple to not eat much. If I have a bad day and I'm up a pound I just back off the snacking the next day and it goes back down. There is no "hunger" like before so it's more of a head thing on wanting to eat. The sleeve helps when I want to eat a cookie or a piece of cake- I eat one cookie not the bag, and half a piece of cake or something and can't really stomach more. I love the sleeve. I'd do it again in a minute! I'm down 115. -
50lbs in 3 months is totally on par! I'm with a large group of women that all had surgery the same time. 80% are big time low carb and work out people and some of us are not. My doc didn't require me low carb and I'm right on par loss wise with everyone else. Sure there are a few that are losing faster, but there are also some losing slower. Just reminds you everyone is different. 50 in 3 months though is probably where we all were at 3 months, if not better! Stop stressin, your doing great!

Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers
lylabelle replied to lylabelle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey everyone! Thought I'd drop in and say hi. We still have a facebook group going so if anyone would like to join in there, we chat and do weekly weigh ins and share pics and stuff in our private, secret group. As far as me, well I'm looking ok. Seems like I have a few weeks where I lose 2-4lbs then a week or two of nothing. But overall I seem to be on point with most people at 67lbs down since surgery - and I don't count carbs, ever. I think its an interesting experiment to see how much everyone looses when some are so strict. My sleeve seems just about as tight as ever! Most days I try to get in a protein shake and a few snacks between clients, but I'd say I probably range 500-800cal a day. I can get almost a taco in, and about 3/4 a lean cuisine. Those are the easist ways for me to gague how much I can eat. On the weekends I try to force myself to eat more, and eat often, so my body doesnt get used to 500cal thing and stop losing. I dont gain on the weekends when I do this and certainly notice weight drops those first few days back to work so the cycle seems to work ok. Still want to get out an excercise but I just haven't had the desire to give up sleep yet and it will have to be a trade off. Hopefully Ill get the bug soon since I know it will help with the jiggly feeling I get a lot of comments about how small I am and how skinny etc. But I'm not excited yet because I've been re-losing weight I lost over and over before. But 5 more lbs and I'll be in NEW territory. I feel like THEN I might be more excited. Anyone else have that feeling? And I find it fascinating that weight loss effected your eyes and ears!!! I had no clue! -

Can you believe we all have tini-tiny stomachs now? What a week its been. Some have had remarkable painfree success and some have been downright miserable. At this stage everyone is in totally different places as far as food/liquid/nutrition. For those on Clear liquids for awhile longer, if you didn't know, Isopure makes a clear drink thats 40g Protein. Its sold at some GNC stores. Might help get some protein in while being kind to your new stomach. I hope by the end of this week everyone is feeling fantastic! Here is the run down! I have an idea, let me know what you guys think... What I can start doing next week after we all lose the excess surgery Fluid... so everyone can see easily how much everyone has lost, is each week we can weigh in Mondays and I can put it after your name on the new Tuesday thread. It would be great to be able to see how everyone is doing at a glance - ie (lylabelle -6). It will be fun the first few weeks when we will probably all be dropping really well (except week 3 is typically a stall). You guys can message your number to me if you want so we keep our thread clean and filled with tips, tricks, recipes, annoyances and NSVs! Let me know what you think. Love this group! Happy week 3 everyone! Sorry I'm a day late, I fell asleep! I'll update this first page later tonight after I go through and add in the new people and the updates from Surgery day weight lost! If you didnt post it in the thread or PM it to me, you can do that today and Ill update it. It will be fun to look back at old weekly threads and see where you were as the weeks go on By now pretty much everyone should be feeling good, not on pain meds and either still enjoying a rest or back to work. Its amazing its already been a few weeks. My doc is so particular about food timing with the new stomach to let it heal so Im still on liquids until next Wednesday (blah). But Ive started being creative, licking a spoon of peanutbutter like a popsicle is heavenly. Only get in about a teaspoon but its satisfying for sure! Do you have some recipes you have tried?? Do share! I'm excited for purees and look forward to sending some chilli through my Ninja to puree it a little. You better believe thats my dinner next Wednesday night! A few are in a mini stall right now. Just be patient, drink some Water, and maybe walk a little if you haven't yet. If you are already walking a lot and stalling, upping your calories may help with the stall, get an extra Protein drink in. Good luck this week everyone! We have an amazing group! (names will go here with weight lost since surgery *lylabelle (-14)*

We are beginning week 4! Many of you have continued onto soft food, some of us are in puree land. How is everyone's incisions feeling? Most of mine are healed, however I have my biggest one not wanting to heal up and it still has a warm to the touch scab. Otherwise I'm quite pleased with how the others look. Better than when I had my gallbladder out! I need to start working on supplements, I haven't really been doing that yet. I need to go through my paperwork and figure all that out. I keep forgetting to take the PPI granules in the morning. I don't have issues with acid so I seem to forget about it, but I know our sleeves are more sensitive to ulcers so I must remember tomorrow!! Here is our group tally! @jajmj (-13) @devint (-21) @Sh3iz (-16.5) @Nicci829 (-15) @Speeder (-10) @lylabelle (-17) @hrhlaurie (-16) @SingleMom33 (-16) @WhoKnows (-13) @@sleevin' it in Jersey (-13) @barbbcute (-17) @tiredtwinmommy (-15.5) @mrsfitzpatrick (-25) @Monte0828 (-19) @cnilson (-23) @SliminDownThick (-18) @20130527sleever (-17) If you did not give us your Monday weight I can add it in here. Currently we are at 285 pounds lost!!

One of the surgeons at my place of surgery himself couldn't stand the taste of water after his surgery. Lol. So you are not alone. I flavor too! Happy there are so many drop options now days. I don't need much but I need somethin.

Has anybody ever experienced this?
lylabelle replied to madwife2002's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you still have your gallbladder? Sounds like a stone stuck -
Who is your primary care doc? I'm 4 months out now and the doc wants me to go get a barium swallow and a blood test to see how I'm doing. I need a doc somewhere between Everett and bellevue. I don't have a primary care doc, I haven't been to one in ages (the last one was such an idoit I didn't go back). lol

lylabelle replied to lylabelle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi devint, I hope you are feeling better!! What a stressful situation! At least you got your levels checked and all is good. I really need to find a doc to do a blood panel and test me. Hope everyone else is doing good! I've been stalled a few weeks but it looks like 60lbs is average at this poing +- 10ish. So I'm glad where I'm at. Everyone want to check in and let us know how you are doing if you still get notifications from this post? -

The stomach "growling" is not hunger like you used to have. Its all caused by the gas. I hope you are taking a good PPI, that makes a huge difference!! -
I was considering lap band, have been convinced sleeve is a better choice. Any thoughts?
lylabelle replied to Ready 4 Changes's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is the sleeve section so I am pro sleeve. But meeting all the women at the hospital having their band turned to a sleeve helped make me happy I didn't do the lap band route first. -

Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers
lylabelle replied to lylabelle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I get that she was venting. It was simply the statement that she wasn't losing like she was when she started that made me think she assumed she would lose fast the whole time. If you take that statement into context from how I read it, my reply about her not knowing the loss slows down makes sense. If she didn't want response or a different kind of response, sorry I didn't answer how you wanted. -

lylabelle replied to lylabelle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
She said "I'm not losing like I was" and said she was getting upset. I have yet to read if ANYONE who lost the same after 3 months as they did the first 3 months. And there ARE people who are not informed. I remember a few weeks in reading about someone who ate a whole can of chili in an hour because she drank after each bite- no one informed her that's a big no no. So I would think if someone thinks they are going to lose the same speed the whole time they must not be informed on how it the process works. Sorry I'm not great at sugar coating things all the time. -

Stalls are normal. Sometimes long ones. You can go check in the veteran group and ask them if they had stalls and how long. -
Week 6: May 27-31st Sleevers
lylabelle replied to lylabelle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's too bad that you never understood how this works. Nobody loses as fast later as they do at the beginning. The first three months are the fastest you will lose. Then most people average between 8 and 15 pounds per month at most after those first 3 months. You can try to speed up losses by balancing work out and food but simply by calorie reduction in your body will not lose as fast after the first few months. It's a process. Most people from my surgeon will lose all of their excess weight within a year, but the average is 60%. -
I have never restricted carbs. I didn't do this to restrict carbs - I did that with Atkins. I did this to restrict portions. Sure, if I want to lose glycogen stores and "look" thinner for a special event I'll go low carb for a few weeks - which I might do in october actually. I'll lose some weight from the glycogen stores while I am low carb, but I'm currently still losing 2-4lbs a week on average and I dont think going low carb will really change that. I'm doing as good as everyone else I am in a group with that was sleeved when I was. So you may temporarily gain from the glycogen store but you shoud still lose at the same rate if your calories are low enough.
