lylabelle replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I move from liquid to puree Wednesday. I'm going to have the insides of an overbaked sweet potato! yumm Better to take it easy and go slow than risk a leak or break. -

Are you guys all on PPIs? -
how do you know if something got "stuck" in your sleeve?
lylabelle replied to Lindsay_W89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It might have been a far too big bite. all those things on it at once. If you are chewing, try to swallow a little at a time? Thats what I do when I gulp too much Water. -
Did your surgeon do post op leak tests? Are you still on liquids? If you also have shortening of breath, heart palpations or fever too thats totally sign of a leak.

Losing Too Much Pre-op for Sleeve
lylabelle replied to shardy727's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said only a week low carb was needed for pre op liver shrink. Anything else is excess. I gained in 8lbs food funerals (i gain so easy) but lost it in that week. I don't know why he would require a longer pre op diet. -
You can't lift things for a few weeks, so I would say take 3. You don't want to risk incisions being opened!

Cool!! So you got a barium swallow pic? -
Lol well remember that every 30lbs for a guy gives you an average of another inch. That also *may* have something to do with it
-
With the sleeve they don't want you drinking because it will leave less room for good protein. And you certainly shouldn't drink with processed foods or they turn to sliders and go right through so you lose the portion control aspect.

considering bariatric sleeve surgery but so confused if its the best decision.
lylabelle replied to Liyamma30's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My mom was really against it, she hates any surgery. So after I told her I wanted to do it and got all her objections I stopped talking about it with her. I had to do low carb pre op and I told her I 2 going on low carb which wasn't a lie. She just didn't know a week later I got surgery. I was SO OVER IT!! sick of figuring out the next diet and how long the weight I worked so hard to lose would actually stay off. I've never been half way to goal, and like you, been doing it since I was a kid. My stomach needed fixed so I could succeed. I did it for myself. And I was glad to be in the hospital 3 days without worrying about anyone but me. It's your life, no one else's, you have to decide what you want to make of it. :-) -
It can be uncomfortable stretching flat. I didn't sleep on a flat bed for a week.

What a strange trip this is - surgery 5-29
lylabelle replied to hrhlaurie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You gotta stop worrying about being constipated. Lol. The every other day thing counts when you are on a solid and eating normal. Not when you are on soft and mushy food and not eating very much to begin with. Think about it, it takes a lot of food for things to get for your system before it's going to come out. It needs to be a decent quantity. if you're eating 1/10th of what you ate before surgey that will take a while. So unless you're going 5-6 days, I wouldn't worry about it. Enjoy your savings in toilet paper. Lol -
So any of your successful sleevers recovering diet pepsi drinkers? I think it is the "you can't every have again" that is depressing pre-screened. I love the crisp taste of a cold diet pepsi. And through every diet (some successful losses, just never maintained), I was always glad that even if I was restricted to chicken breast I could enjoy a cold diet pepsi after work. I've gone off of before so I know I can... Is just. Well. You know.... Anyone know what I'm talking about? Were you anxious about it before sleeve but it's turned out to be no biggy?

Week 2: May 27-31st Sleevers
lylabelle replied to lylabelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Post op. Everyone has a completely different pre op, some did it for months and some didn't have one at all. We can't compare those. So the number we look at is after surgery. -
I could have gone to insurance, most will eventually cover it - but as you said its a year process. I wasn't willing to wait that long. I also did a lot of research, and being a single mom I wanted the best care possible, and with docs here in the US sending people home the same day I didn't think that was possible. I chose Dr Aceves who works out of a hospital (not a clinic) in Mexacali. I read so many good reviews and really knew it was the best way to go. He does 3 leak tests, most in the US get just 1 during surgery. Its 3 days in the hospital to verify things are going well (and because he tests each day). The total (other than my $200 flight to san diego) was $8750. I saved and saved, and there are payment options as well. I had to wait 2 months because of my works schedule but I wished the whole time I didnt have to wait. I was back to work day 6. I'm excited knowing the doc I went to is the doc people go to when they need their bad sleeves fixed! He does such a good sleeve 96% of his patience lose ALL of their excess weight within a year. The sleeve is an art and he does it so well. As for fear about stuff later. Everyone I've read said problems after going to MX they had were covered by insurance. I was confident since I had 3 full days in the hospital before going, the problems would be caught before I left anyway. 10 days, 13lbs later. Excited to see what the next year brings!!

How to stop weight loss
lylabelle replied to Andrew0929's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Absolutely. But if you go 3 pounds over what you want just back off a little. I think 3 is the normal flux number.
