    Band Erosion

I was banded in October 2003 by Dr. Ortiz. I had my band removed in August of 2006. I went in to have a slip fixed to find out that my band eroded and the tubing eroded through my colon. I want another band but everyone that I've talked to (not banded of course) thinks I am crazy. I struggle daily with my weight. I've worked hard (Weight Watchers) since August, and I've only gained about 25 lbs. I found out I was pregnant and I miscarried but since then I've lost about 15 of those 25. While I enjoy eating healthy, I just can not see myself counting points and measuring EVERYTHING for the rest of my life. I miss my band...I know he's out there somewhere...I'm just looking for his replacement. :-)
  2. if you've gotten one...or did you get a new band immediatly? If you had to wait..did you have to meet the FDA requirements again or could you just get a new band??

    Teachers And The Band

I am a teacher with a removed band. I wanted to get rebanded during Spring Break but it does not look like it will be happening so soon. I may wait until the summer. I teach preschoolers with disabilities and developmental delays...my biggest thing was my port. I have to pick up children and transfer them in/out of wheelchairs and other adaptive equiptment. It was a little sore at times but nothing major.

    Couch to 5K..

If you go to www.coolrunning.com it will explain how it works. You start off jogging small amounts, walking small amounts. The first week you job 60 seconds, walk 90 seconds...week by week you run more than you walk. At the end of 2 months the goal is to run 3 miles..or 5K. Everyone that I've asked about it says that it is very doable.
  7. Yes, I mean those girls...the boobies. After losing 100+ lbs, they seem to be getting droopier and droppier. I've gone from DD's to D's that just kind hang around. I was talking yesterday to a girl that does massage therapy and she said never go without a bra, even when you sleep wear a sports bra or one of those camis with a built in bra..just something with support. Ok..so now that most of the damage is done, and the only thing that I think would help me is a lift or something, do you think it would help to wear a sports bra to sleep in or anything...or is it too little too late?

    question....pre-op diet & alcohol

Isn't there a new comercial on TV that is advertizing Bacardi and Diet Coke with no carbs? I had a few sips of a margarita the day after my surgery. I was in mexico and I met a banded Dr who said there was nothing wrong with it...granted I didn't drink the whole thing, just a few sips..but it was the best night sleep.

    Teachers...

There are quite a few teachers on here. :-) When does your summer vacation start. Mine starts today at 3:15!! I can't wait. What do you teach and when does your vacation start? I teach special needs preschoolers. I love it. I started teaching them half way through my banding process, and some of my higher functioning ones noticed my weight loss, even at 4 years old. My kids I taught last year (kindergartners) say WOW, you look so pretty now! It's amazing what all children notice.
  10. I didn't need a GRE score to attend grad school because my GPA from undergrad was high enough. I am graduating with my MA in Early Childhood in December and I am thinking about entering into a PhD program that will require a GRE score. Any suggetions on any prep materials/classes? I know I will need them. Thanks.

Tummy Tuckers! I need some info!

I've been thinking about a tummy tuck as well. However, I am a curvy gal and I want to keep some of my curves. I have seen many tummy tucks that do not look natural and I want to keep my natural look. My MIL has had one, and she's gained a little weight and she looks like she's wearing football pads because now she gains weight in different places. I don't have a lot of saggy skin...most of that is in my legs which I would probably get done before I'd have my stomach done.

What does everyone do for a living?

I am a teacher of preschoolers with special needs. Tomorrow is my last day of school for the summer. YAHOO!!! In December I will graduate with my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education!!
  14. What question do you hate the most when you talk about your band with people. I have a few that I hate...especially when the person I'm talking to is thin. But here's the one I hate the most... Are you going to take your band out when you lose all of your weight? I give them a quick No! :-)

What question do you hate the most...

Oh what else I hate is...I went into the gap to find some jeans...the girl asks what size. I tell her I'm not sure because I've lost over 100 lbs and I am not sure what size I would be in there. Then they say 100 lbs..oh my god. Before I entered the store, I felt good about myself..I used to be a size 24-26, now I am a 12. Then the size 2 says oh my god after I tell her I've lost 100 lbs. But me, I take it as God, your a size 12, you are big now, I'd hate to have seen you 100 pounds more.

What question do you hate the most...

I've just started telling people about my band now that I am at a somewhat normal weight, but I am very selective about the people I tell. My friend who had bypass done has told me that I am wrong for not telling people. That I should be proud of what I've done. But to me it is such a persoan decision. It is to the point where I don't even want to go out and eat with her. Everytime we go out to eat, she tells the waiter "we've had fat girl surgery, we can't eat much." Their response is usually.."umm, ok." I just want to crawl under the table.
  17. Hi, I am new to LapBandTalk. I am looking forward to finding some wonderful support here. :-) I am 28 years old and I was banded in October of 2003. I am down appox 105-110 lbs. (I don't weigh myself often). I've lost a little slower than I've wanted to, but I had to have my port replaced. I am very happy with my progress. I started out at 287 lbs and I am down around the 180ish mark, give or take a few. I may or may not ever reach my goal of 150, but if I don't I still concider myself a LapBand success. :-) Here are some of my before/after pictures. Enjoy....
  18. Why would they concider you a liability?
  19. CambronKD

Hi, I am new here. :-)

:-) What kinds of specifics are you looking for? I should have listened when people told me to write down my progress, I never really did...but I will try and wing it. In the summer of 2003 a friend of mine introduced me to WLS. She was talking about bypass, but I told her quickly I wasn't interested. I did research it and I came across lap band. I thought about it and thought about it and researched and researched it and finally told myself now is the time. I am a teacher, and I taught at a year around school at the time and I had three weeks off in the month of October. I knew I couldn't get it done here and be back to work in three weeks, so I went to Dr. Ortiz. I was able to have it done the next week. I started off at 287 lbs..I am 5'7". I wore about a size 24-26 depending on the brand or whatever. I didn't get my first fill until December. I kept on losing and eventually my fill wasn't working. The my Dr. checked me and there was no fill left. He filled me again and had me come back in a month...the fill was gone again. He checked me under flouro and there was a leak. It took about a month and a half or two months before I was able to have it fixed. During that time I was unfilled I never gained any weight, but I didn't lose any either. I had my port replaced in November of 2004 and I've been losing slow and steady ever since. I am about 180ish and I'm wearing some 12's and 14's. I feel wonderful, I am just having a hard time living in my new skin. Sometimes I wonder if I should seek some professional help. When people (who knew me at 287 lbs) tell me how good now, I look I really could just crawl under a rock. But when people I don't know complement me, it's different. I dont know..i just feel uncomfortable. I try to help my husband understand, but he just does not. MEN!?!?!? haha..he's great though. I have never set a goal weight because If I never reached it some people would concider that a failure. Others might just see it as an easy way out or whatever. If I don't lose anouther pound, I feel that I am just as much a success as the person who made it to their goal. I've changed a lot of habits, but one major thing is I won't deprive myself..that's not what I got into this for. :-)
