LapBand-friendly fast food (don't judge me!)
JustWatchMe replied to JustWatchMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The burger joints are not easy because of the fried food smells. But I find I can walk in and out of Subway with healthy choices. They have soup and sandwiches, but also salad made with anything you want. Also, I'm so thrilled that I discovered yellow banana peppers means I don't need dressing on a salad. -

Is it just me or did MyFitnessPal change the five week projection calculation? My daily calorie goal is 1,000. It used to tell me what my five week projected weight would be after I completed each day's diary. But now it just keeps warning me I need 1200 calories a day and it won't do the projection. That projection was a great motivator, especially as I am approaching Onederland. -
I like Jim's giant font. Easy to read LOL. o_0

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week
JustWatchMe replied to JustWatchMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The longer I do this the easier it gets. I'm going to a movie tonight and committing right here and now to forget about popcorn. I'll get a bottle of water. I also have time before the movie to eat a sensible dinner. Have a great day, everyone! -

are you able to eat mushrooms
JustWatchMe replied to Weightogo123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still able to eat them but I'm very careful to chew thoroughly since my last fill. It doesn't take much to push me from OK to STUCK and a hunk of rubbery mushroom cap could definitely do it. -
Welcome. I wish I knew to listen to my psychologist's suggestion when he said to break the habit of tv eating. Turns out it wasn't a suggestion. When I failed to do it he didn't clear me for surgery and I lost three weeks trying for a second chance. In retrospect it worked out because I truly broke that habit. It also taught me that I had to change some behaviors and get serious or WLS wasn't going to work for me. Six months post op, I am happier and healthier than I've been in decades.

Gurgle. Ha. Today I was on a Webex conference call. The kind where you can see who is talking from a list of names. I THOUGHT it was on mute. One huge sudden burp later I learned otherwise.

WLS for Binge Eaters?
JustWatchMe replied to Redsfan19's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been a binge eater since childhood. My parents were binge eaters as well. I am scared TO DEATH of wrecking my insides by returning to binge eating. Read the forums and learn that yes, you can cause medical problems by returning to disordered eating on any of the WLS methods. My band is a tool but it encircles a very real organ in my gut. If I stretch its limits it will slip. If I eat around my band and get in the habit of puking, I will cause medical damage and possibly a medical emergency. This is terrifying for me. Today I feel good restriction and I follow my band rules for eating. I'm also working on the underlying causes of my binge eating and training myself to use new coping habits for life. For ME, the benefits of the surgery were enough to make me wiling to give up binge eating for life. I had to be mentally ready to never do it again. WLS is not for sissies. -

@@carmen3529, 1. Hang in there. 2. Band is not sleeve. 3. Lower BMI patients lose slower. I started at a BMI over 50. 4. Exercise. Walk around the block. Every day. Ten minutes. It will boost your energy. 5. Track your food and talk to your surgeon. 6. If your food is honestly clean then get a band adjustment. I have had four and am just now getting to my green zone. 7. Stay in your surgeon's face and keep all your appointments. 8. You deserve success and are already a winner. (Hugs) -
Is it possible to feel restriction at one level and then a lower level at another time
JustWatchMe replied to blacktxbelle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have more restriction when I am stressed. I also have more restriction when I have eaten smaller amounts of food for a day or two. I am also more restricted in the morning. -
MEASURABLE Non-weight successes!
JustWatchMe replied to CherieRyde's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can walk without getting out of breath. I can climb stairs without getting out of breath. I fit in an airline seat. I can ride a bike. I get sore sitting too long because I have bones. Who knew. I dropped from 3x-4x tops to 2x and 1x. I dropped from 2x pants to 18w. I bought two smaller bathing suits in two different sizes in April and they are both already too big. I don't sweat so much. I sleep at night. I am rested. I went off one blood pressure medicine, off my cholesterol medicine, off my prescription NSAID, off of Prevacid, off of fiber pills, off of pain meds. I take arthritis Tylenol and one blood pressure medicine and Flintstones vitamins. My dresser no longer resembles a pharmacy. -

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week
JustWatchMe replied to JustWatchMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
@@Bandista, always listen to your body. You're my inspiration. If 5:2 is triggering old thought processes then it's not the right method for you. But you know that already. ???? Today was Weird with a capital W. I was very stressed out during and after a phone call today and it was bizarre. The phone call used up my entire lunch hour so I couldn't eat my 500 calorie meal then. I had zero hunger either. Kinda spooky. I came home and at 5:30 heated up lean pot roast for dinner and a handful of raw green Beans to munch while it reheated. I only managed to eat 2/3 of the 4 oz of meat and got stuck. Ugh. My band was clearly too tight for the pot roast. I know it's a factor of having eaten nothing all day and the high stress level I had. Slimed, spit up, ugh. Not too much but still. Ironically I'm still not hungry. Last week on Monday night I was dreaming of Tuesday's food. Today nah. I talked to people tonight to get some of the stress out of my system and I also drove my car with the radio blasting and rock music playing. That always helps. At any rate, it is really clear to me that the tiny fill I got in September may not be super restrictive most days, but on stressful days or low food volume days it can be quite restrictive. I'm not going to get a fill in October. This may actually be my green zone. I suppose I should sound happier about that. But realizing it by means of a stuck episode kinda dulls the thrill a bit. Lol. I'm kind of hoping I wake up really hungry tomorrow. Did I say that? -

You clicked on this. Just remember that. I'm at that magical age where my colon is suddenly another body part to take care of. I got my colonoscopy at age 50 and got a clean bill of health. However, I was told that high Fiber was good and one way to know you were getting enough fiber was if your poop floats. You clicked on this. Mine floated nicely for years. I also took fiber capsules every day. Now, post banding, I was told no fiber capsules (they expand inside you) so I stopped. And now I eat Protein, protein and more protein. Some veggies and occasionally carbs. Not floating anymore. I really don't want to have to mix up a cocktail of fiber in a glass every morning. But if I have to in order to stay healthy, so be it. How do you maintain good colon health on a high protein diet?

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week
JustWatchMe replied to JustWatchMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Happy Slim Sunday! I was nervous about weighing this morning and almost didn't. But I decided before I did that whether it showed a modest or a big loss or even stayed the same, I was determined to stay on course. I feel so good and my jeans were slightly looser yesterday so I was sure I lost something this week. Between one and two weeks ago I was bouncing between 211-216 daily. Last Sunday I weighed 218.2. This morning I weighed 210.2. I've broken through my bouncing range and this is my lowest weight so far. I'm really happy I waited a week to see these results. I'm also more determined than ever to keep eating cleanly and use this 5:2 method. I had a little victory last night. I went to an early movie and didn't buy anything to snack on. As some of you know, I had been in a movie popcorn routine that was doing me no favors. Since I had not had dinner yet and wasn't even hungry, I just told myself if I came out of the movie hungry I could have whatever I wanted for dinner. And I did - low carb and delicious. So much of this battle is fought between the ears. I think this week helped me strengthen some habit muscles that needed a good workout. Off to church, then having breakfast at home, then meeting a friend for coffee at Starbucks. Have great Sunday! -

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week
JustWatchMe replied to JustWatchMe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm certainly glad I'm not getting on the scale this morning. Today I'm going to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. And walk, walk, walk. For some reason my arthritis is flaring again. It started yesterday morning in one finger and my knee has been troublesome for about two weeks, but getting worse. The last time I had a horrible flare was after a period of enormous stress in the summer. My body is telling me something. Time to listen. @@Bandista, I give you a lot of credit for handling all the family events you have this summer. I've been blessed to really only have to worry about myself and my own meals. It does make life simpler. This week has been amazing and no matter what the scale shows for me tomorrow morning, I'm going to do this 5:2 again on Monday. It was simple and empowering. Just having a simple plan that has its own built in rewards kept me encouraged all week. So my plan will be to stop eating Sunday by 7pm, and then nothing until my 500 calorie lunch on Monday, and then nothing after that until Breakfast Tuesday. Except coffee with cream. Gotta have my coffee with cream. Enjoy your weekend, everyone. Super Saturday!
