    HOW many calories?!?!

No I posted this here on purpose. All discussion is welcome, and I have a big curiosity about what other WLS patients eat. I just assumed that sleevers and RNY patients also kept track of calories, but maybe that's not true. At any rate I'm still in weight-loss stage, so I am tracking because I was advised by my surgeon to keep my calories to a certain number. And most of the time, I do check MyFitnessPal before I eat something. But sometimes, I think something is going to be "healthy", only to find out later that it had more calories than a Whopper!

F*** Yes or No! Great article for single members

I'm not single but my curiosity got the better of me. It's funny how we can so clearly believe this message when it pertains to other people, but so hard to apply it to ourselves. Thanks for posting this. It does make some good points. And I also second what Kindle said. There's nothing second best about being single and happy. Too many of us have clung to relationships beyond the time they should have ended. We are enough. I liked the message from the article that unless both parties are excited to be with the other then the match is not going to succeed. That to me flows directly into the idea of, if you're not excited about being with the other person, ok then. And so what? Don't be with them. We don't always need to be searching for a mate to be happy.

I am so angry at myself

Don't give up. I just read your blog post. You are 20 pounds better off than you were a year ago. Your tool is still there and it's waiting to be used. Don't give up on yourself !! We are all still here and working this every day. You can succeed. Believe in yourself!
  9. I'm not sure but I think I'm now in the green. I've had four fills and I'm 7.5 in my 14cc band. My appointment in October will not be a fill.
  10. It should. If it gets worse call your doctor. But every day should be a bit better.
  11. I wish I had not relied on fast food so much. I've been better this past month in stocking up and actually eating my own food on work lunch breaks instead of trying to find healthy choices at the local fast food places. Here's what I did recently that is helping me. Stock up the fridge with small portion things that are EASY to eat on the go. cheese sticks. Veggies like baby carrots and celery. Green Beans. Keep in mind some Banders can't tolerate those but I can. Hummus is my favorite thing lately. Lots of flavors. I stock my work desk with Quest coconut cashew bars. I eat raw almonds and raw pecans. Count the nuts out. 24 almonds is one serving and it's 240 calories. But there are days when that is most of my lunch if I can't get out of the office. I still use the U njury Protein drink some mornings for a fast and healthy Breakfast. I also bought U njury packets in single serving packets for my desk at work and I have put them in a Water bottle half filled and shaken them up for an emergency lunch. My basic advice is try to stay with whole foods that are not fried or fast food. It isn't easy to go to fast food places and stay with the grilled choices all the time. Best to stay away until food habits are established. You'll do this!!! When you start seeing your body change and your health improve you will get so fired up it will become much easier. The day I was able to take the stairs without huffing and puffing was a beautiful day. And it was only about thirty pounds down.
  12. Julie I am almost never in the grocery store anymore. I used to go once or twice a day. Once at lunch and once after work. Crazy.
  13. Just follow directions and it will suddenly start coming off. Don't worry. Most of us lose, then slightly gain post op, then slowly lose for a few weeks. Keep up your food plan and exercise regimen and you will start to see amazing results. Look at my ticker. I lost 50 pounds before my first fill. It wasn't easy without restriction but it helped me build the hard, hard discipline the band requires. Now that I have had four fills, I think I'm in the green. It's so much easier. But if I didn't follow the rules and stay on course in the early months, I don't believe I'd be 95 pounds down at six months. Good luck!

Feeling disappointed and frustrated...what to do?

Omg. What a crazy thing to happen. Please stay strong and make sure your insurance covers whomever you need to see next.

plastic surgeon. Just going to say it!

RJ, I'm sending you a hug long distance. Don't let that a-hole get you down. Of course it affected you. You were literally stripped of all of your defenses and being analyzed by a boor. I know you won't give up and I know you'll prevail. What I would do, but it's just me, is call ahead before the next appointment even though it will be a different surgeon. I would tell the people on the other end about this event and that you want them to know how horrible that treatment was for you and ask what kind of manner the new doctor has. It doesn't hurt to put people on notice. I would even ask them to relay the information to the surgeon before you arrive. I know this sounds odd, but why? If we take care of our emotional selves as well as our physical selves, that is a good thing. Would you let your mother or your daughter receive bad treatment if you could prevent it? Nope. So throw that out there and make the new surgeon think twice before being callous or dismissive or worse, cruel, like that first ass. I'm sorry about your plumbing problems. What a s****y week.

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week

Still happily (yes happily) doing 5:2. It's getting easier. I've started looking forward to Thursdays. Mondays aren't bad but Mondays are stressful at work so I rarely look forward to that day anyway. Thursday has been a welcome day of easy food choices. I definitely am noticing results in my clothes, and staying off the scale has been smart for me. Onederland isn't far off. Maybe two or three more weeks if I stay on track like I've been. That's truly wonderful because it will coincide with my daughters' visit home from college. They haven't seen me since Labor Day. I'm motivated!

    Weird day

Thank you both. Yes I really do believe this is the real work. I've lost almost all of my excess weight once before. But the hard part is learning new coping mechanisms. What you just said about finding rejection in everyday interactions -- yes. Wow. It even continued after I got home. Sheesh. I'm living with my mom. Today she greeted me with "do you think you can eat some of that food you keep buying, because it's filling up the fridge and there's no room for my regular food". Oh, you mean my hummus and celery? I perceived it as a rejection of me and my invasion of her home. I'm taking up too much space in her life. Just like I'm taking up too much time in my doctor's office. I got pretty snippy with her but I later apologized because I realized I came home in a pissy mood. So we bonded over reruns of Scandal for a couple of hours. This head stuff is complicated.

I made it into the Daily News!

Alex, I'm glad you were featured. But the article would have been so much better if they focused on more success stories like yours and how you made the band work for you. To me the article was too negative. It's true that it's not an easy fix and there can be complications. But it IS a fix and many compliant banders find their lives totally transformed, all for the better. Anyway, although I would have liked the article to be more positive, it was still a good way to get some info out to the public. And you look fit and fantastic!!!!

    Let's talk scales

I went from weighing daily to weighing weekly. My attitude improved immensely. I have a cheap digital scale which is within a half pound of my surgeon's office. I weigh on the bathroom tile level floor.

    Darn Head Hunger

Yes, drying out. I compare it to a muscle being strengthened with exercise. Every day I don't snack or don't choose fried food or don't eat popcorn at the movies, I've strengthened the new habit muscles and it truly does get easier to say no next time. I'm also trying to remember that it's actually saying yes to healthy choices and yes to my new life. Not a negative at all.
