Tomorrow I'm going to try for six trips up and down = 12 floors. And a goal of 1200 calories. Having leftover chicken again for lunch tomorrow.
-
Got all my stair climbing in and came in at 925 calories for the day. Woo hoo!

What's your daydream? Mine is walking on the beach next summer, in shorts, for miles. Big old floppy hat, Jackie O sunglasses, sassy butt, and my trusty dog at my side. Cruising Chicago's Lake Shore Drive on a Saturday from Hyde Park to Sheridan Road and back with the sunroof open and the windows down.

I'm dreaming of 145. Never been there since my early teens.

4 days out of surgery and feeling pretty good

Glad it's going well. Wow, protocols are all different. I wasn't allowed anything except liquids for six weeks. Congrats on your new life!! -
Nausea & gas - how long!
JustWatchMe replied to ljcags's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Karate chops to the neck and shoulders helped me. And walking. -
Ten months ago today I was banded. Woo hoo! What a wonderful ten months it has been. I'm feeling grateful for you folks today, and hopeful for 2015. My therapist tells me to dare to dream. So today I'm daydreaming about summer 2015. Will I be at goal weight? I sure hope so! Gotta get this body moving more! I started walking the stairs at work as a planned exercise. Ten flights up and ten flights down each day. Too cold to walk outside. Hope everyone is having a good day.

First of all backing out when you did is better than regretting a decision you were not comfortable with. So good on you for that. I'm a new bander and it is work to stay compliant. All I can worry about is being compliant today. I won't second guess my band decision because I feel it was right FOR ME. I may have complications later, but I don't today and for that I am grateful. So grateful that I'm vigilant about following the rules. One day at a time, I've lost 104 pounds in 10 months and got my life back. My weight loss has slowed to a crawl with fifty two pounds to go. But I know what to do to kick it up a notch. I need to get off my butt and exercise, and eat less. For today I'm working this tool as best I can, and reaping its benefits. Good luck and don't rush into anything. Be sure, because no matter which road you take, it's work. But it's the most rewarding work I've done in ages.

All Ready for a New Me and a New Life!
JustWatchMe replied to JoJoNYC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is so exciting. Post here as soon as you feel up to it. Good luck !!! -
Lol I have fifty two pounds to go. But my rear is definitely skinny. Full disclosure. Not a veteran. I missed that part. I was banded 10 months ago today. Can I stay? I don't see the forum for many posts from my iPhone app. I'm replying before I realize where I've posted. Today I will do the stairs at work again (10 floors up, 10 floors down) and bring my lunch. Aiming for 1500 calories. It felt right yesterday and I actually went to bed with a grumbling stomach. So I think it's more realistic than 1200 for me. I'm having a minor surgery Friday which will mess up my eating big time Thursday and Friday. As in liquids only Thursday and probably nausea Friday. So my goal this week food wise is nutrition. So for lunch I'll have solid Protein and a salad. dinner I'll have to plan a little later. Good luck, team!

WLS "not easy way out"; & GBS & Alcoholism
JustWatchMe replied to Dr-Patient's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
For those of us who turned to food for comfort, finding a way to live without self medication is harder than the weight loss itself. I do believe addiction transfer is real, and may be both biological and psychological in origin. I'm grateful to have a 12-step program for the overeating. For me, the battle was never just about finding the right diet or weight loss tool, surgical or otherwise. -
I have trouble with dry chicken and can't eat pork at all. Beef is usually fine, but once I got very very stuck on dry beef. I do okay with ground meat like chili. I've heard that constant irritation of the band (being too tight) can be a vicious circle. Can you try liquids transitioning into mushies and then solids as if it was right after surgery? Maybe your band needs a rest.

Why Did You Choose Your Specific Type of Weight Loss Surgery?
JustWatchMe replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was scared of altering my stomach because I watched my mom have stomach issues due to arthritis meds, and she needed emergency bleeding ulcer surgery. That whole thing frightened me since I don't know how badly damaged my stomach might already be from years of arthritis meds myself. The sleeve and RNY were so drastic in my eyes. The band seemed like a gentler way to go, and I figured if the worst happened to me, I could always have it removed. Now that I've done the band, I realize how much work living with a band requires. For me this is good work. I'm forced to eat well or else I get stuck. The green zone is a tricky thing, but the longer I live with my band, the more respect I have for it. I never want to get a slip or erosion. -
I have 52 pounds left to lose to get to my goal. Congratulations on your long term success! Since I'm new and no expert I'll just say what I've heard before. Get back to basics and start like you were fresh out of surgery. liquids first few days, then introduce solids and Protein protein protein. Many people say when they do the liquid thing it resets their band restriction. Eating protein and really staying off carbs means longer satiety, at least for me. When I eat carbs they don't hold me and I can eat so much more of them. Luckily I like meat. Also, log your food. You'd be surprised what you're really eating once you keep track. I use MyFitnessPal and even if I have a godawful food day, I truthfully track everything I eat and drink. It's a wakeup call. And don't drink your calories. And don't drink with meals. I wish you the best. You're an inspiration to me!

Eating less food and higher protein, I don't go every day. But I found four ounces of prune juice gets things regular.
-
Not too bad. Got the stairs in, got my water in. Had 1520 calories instead of 1200 but it's okay. Off to an OA meeting now and then a bubble bath. Freezing my skinny ass off here in Chicago. Loving this thread.

I'm sorry it hasn't worked for you. This sounds miserable. Does your surgeon have any ideas, like a revision to sleeve?
-
I rely on fast food for lunch breaks and sometimes for Breakfast. Occasionally dinner. That habit isn't likely to significantly change. What must change are the food choices from those places. I've made these band friendly choices so far: Wendy's chili Subway chopped salads Not so good for weight loss so saying buh-bye for now (saying buh-bye forever is too sad): Popeye's chicken strips (fried) Starbucks mozzarella and tomato panini (carb-y) I know I am not alone. Many of us rely on takeout for our meals. What are your band friendly choices?
-
Three trips down and up the stairs at work so far, and two to go before I leave. I didn't leave the building at lunch. Too cold. Brought hummus for lunch and had that. I'll fill my water bottle next and switch from decaf to water.

Getting Started on Your Weight Loss Surgery Journey
JustWatchMe replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Alex, what would any of us do without you? Your site was the primary source of information for me and still is. Kudos to you. I will add a suggestion from my own experience. You can go to free WLS support groups from different hospitals. They usually meet monthly. I went to three different ones. I just kept my mouth shut at the ones that weren't my hospital, and listened to people talk. I share at my own. I needed more support than one meeting a month. I also attend RNY and Sleeve groups even though I am a bander, because most of what is shared applies across the board. -
Now on the other side!
JustWatchMe replied to samcat681's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yay for your new life!!! Tips from Bandland. Karate chops to your neck and shoulder. Ask a friend. Also walk walk walk. I had a treadmill and walked every day. Stay off the scale. It's normal to gain a small amount a couple weeks after surgery and it freaks you out. Weigh only at the doctor until your first fill, then weekly. Stay connected here and congratulations!!! -
I did lose a lot of hair and it's starting to grow back now. I had thick hair to begin with. I'm worried because I'm having another minor non-WLS surgery this week with anesthesia and I'm afraid of losing it again. I just worry about the follicles giving up. My mom lost her hair twice on methotrexate for her RA and it didn't come back after the second round. She's totally bald and wears a wig.

Love my FitBit. I couldn't meet ten thousand very often so I lowered the goal and it helps. You get reminders when you're close and it spurs you to finish for the day. Today I will stay under 1200 calories. I'll walk the stairs each way at work five times (two flights). I'll take a walk outdoors at lunchtime. Hey, it's 23 degrees. Practically summer. Hold me accountable!! HMA! HMA! Pretty ambitious for a Monday, yes?
-
No, but morning is tighter than evening. It's a matter of gravity, with blood evenly distributed in tissues and organs while sleeping, but going to the lower extremities while standing up. Or so I read. Actually makes sense to me since I can see the same thing in my feet.

Gaining weight sad but starting over. Help advice and support needed.
JustWatchMe replied to Zingythingy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm looking ahead to plastics some day myself. I have no advice since I'm still in my first year, but just sending support. I hope things turn around for you.
