    24-36 inches?!

I read the title of this post and thought, gowalking got the waistline measurements backwards. I'm sure she meant it used to be 36 inches and now it's down to 24.
  2. "eat as if you do have restriction. so when you do hit the green zone your eating habits are already established." Terry is right. My surgeon had this attitude. My post op protocol was super strict with six weeks of liquids followed by 800 calories a day. Holy Moses did I want more food. I peppered the NUT with why why why and she said this early post op time was what my doc used to jump start a solid weight loss, get momentum going, and put good compliance habits in place. The nurse also had me on the treadmill day 2 after surgery. I was so damn complaint in those early weeks. I lost like crazy too. Was I hungry? Sometimes yes. Most of the time though, with strict compliance, my body got appropriately hungry at mealtime and was satisfied with the small meals. When I started messing around and began snacking, it screwed that up and I then got hungry between meals. That quickly taught me to stop snacking. Stopping exercise was the stupidest thing I did, because now it's really mentally hard for me to get back to it. I had a treadmill in my old house and I no longer do. But that's just an excuse. I am slowly adding a pathetically small amount of exercise back, and it's hard, but necessary if I want to get these last fifty pounds off. I'll get there. But the motivation of the early weeks and months doesn't last indefinitely. So build those strong habits now. Good luck.
  3. @@csg WLS does not operate on our brains. None of them do. Head hunger is real and doesn't go away. Binge eating disorder, whether diagnosed or not (as in my case, but let's face it, I binged daily for decades) is about using food to comfort/entertain/numb/get high/all of the above. Until we find a different, healthy REPLACEMENT for food to do those things for us, you bet your sweet bippy we will return to the food. Don't take my word for it. These boards are filled with WLS unhappy endings from LapBand, sleeve and RNY patients who found a way around the physical limitations of their WLS and gained their weight back. I'm not accusing. I've read the confessionals here. And for every "help me I want to start again" confessional, there are probably twice as many who just dropped off the boards, never to be heard from again. I go to OA and CODA to work on the issues that led me to overeat in the first place. Because not only do I not want to fail at WLS and return to overeating, I don't want to replace my food addiction with alcohol or pain pills. And without working on my head, guess where I'd be next?

Oh yeah! I joked about the Cinderella thing on the stairs and a passerby laughed along and said that's what shoes are for. A year ago I would have been worrying about stares on the stairs. And the meal was amazing. Lobster bisque and scallops and creme brûlée and a bottle of wine. Instead of avoiding the camera I asked the waiter to take our picture ! Living in the shadows for so many years changes you. It's so nice to know I am really here under it all and can find myself again.

The more I do the stairs the easier it gets. Friday I logged 24 flights. Three rounds of eight each. I don't know if it was that or the clean eating all week or the recovery from my minor surgery, or all of the above, but I'm down a pound and a half. Today is Sunday. I had plans with friends for a doggie play date in the park but we are expecting a bunch of snow. If it holds off for six more hours, we will still go. Movement is going to be what gets the scale to go down for me. I want to find a way to move more every day. The stairs at work thing is working out really well.

Thanks, peeps! My daughter said the jacket would look cute with jeans, so maybe I'll do that sometime. I had a great time. I had never been to the Signature Room at the Hancock before. To get in the building, you have to walk down a flight of stairs and then up an escalator back to street level before the elevator ride. I had a Cinderella moment and lost a shoe on the steps! Got a chuckle out of that. Our dinner was wonderful and the city looked amazing. My camera doesn't do it justice, but here is the view from our table.

My girls said the sweater looks better than the jacket from the fancy dress. Look at me, taking fashion advice from my kids!

This is the dress I ended up with for tonight's dinner at the 95th. I had a much fancier one but it was too big! So in a panic I ran to Target today and got this sleeveless dress for $27.99 and topped it off with a black sweater from my skinny daughter's closet! The heels are new and a size too big so they don't hurt my goofy feet. People, I have not worn a dress in 15 years. This is truly an NSV!
  11. I attend Codependents Anonymous. CODA.org. I find it very beneficial.

    Starbucks?

Starbucks just kills my calorie count. Even the skinny stuff. Today I put vanilla extract in a spray bottle and spritz it into my travel mug before brewing my morning decaf in the Keurig. I add cream. Saves money too.

    My story, sad but true

Wow. I don't recognize that advice you got whatsoever. Can you try to find a doctor in a bariatric center of excellence? This attitude seems way off, and you seem to feel that it is too. I hope you can get your band working for you with a doctor who feels right for you.

Minor change in plans. No rock band tonight. I'm still not up to speed after my minor surgery last week. Still taking it easy after work every night. I started my day today with plain yogurt mixed with 1/4 cup of Bare Naked granola with honey and almonds. Where has this been all my life? Yum! Have a good Friday, Bandsters!
  15. I was very touched by your post. You've had incredible success, and it just goes to show that we are all on unique timetables. Your pictures are inspiring! Thank you for sharing this. It gives me hope for long term success.

Yep, I spread it out over the day but today I was able to do it in two parts. Actually, I did 14 flights the last two days and 16 today. I couldn't even climb one flight ten months ago. And even though I was physically able to climb a flight of stairs after a couple of months post op, I didn't dare do it at work for all the huffing and puffing at my desk afterward. Now I am not even out of breath. It's truly a miracle.

I've been able to stay at or below 1400 calories every day this week. And I'm up to 14 flights of stairs at work. Woot woot!
  19. Yes! Most Bandsters have a small gain after starting foods. It's perfectly normal. Try to stay off the scale, stick to your food plan, and get your first fill on schedule. It will take a few fills before you reach the green zone, which could take many months. I'm at green now and I'm 10 months out. I've been there for maybe a month or two. But it took five fills to get me there. No matter. As long as you stick to the rules, you will lose weight. It does get easier. Congratulations!
