Struggling to slow down and chew
JustWatchMe replied to Carrie81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Besides cutting tiny bites and putting your fork down between bites, here's a tip that works for me. Set your phone alarm for five minutes. When it goes off, get up from the table, go to the bathroom, wash your hands, and then come back and resume your meal. That short interruption in my meal helps my brain receive the signal that I've eaten something. It gives a chance for the ravenous hunger to be sated. For some reason, this really works for me, particularly in a restaurant. But I do it at home as well. Hope this helps. -
You guys are very inspiring!! As for me, I had a lovely Greek salad and saganaki last night, a tiny bit of eggplant spread, and one bite of baklava. I left the restaurant satisfied but not full. It felt amazing. However, I overdid it this week on my poor knee. The 5k on the treadmill Tuesday followed by a 2 mile walk at lunch yesterday left it painfully sore. I woke with knee pain today. I'll tell my trainer we should focus on core and upper body today. My boss gave his notice at work today. I'm really sad. I've worked for him at this company for six years, and at my former company for nine years as well. He is one of the few people I told about my WLS and has been so understanding and generous with time off for appointments, etc. Plus his wife had rny a million years ago and so he knows the ropes. Emotional day.

You got it! Tonight I went out for Greek food. Saganaki (no bread or dipping oil), a feta cheese Greek salad, a tablespoon of eggplant spread, and One. Bite. Of. Baklava. One bite! And it was enough! No deprivation, no wanting to keep going. It feels SO GOOD to leave a restaurant where I've just eaten some of my favorite food and not feel even remotely stuffed at all! I love my band!! -
This made me think of "punch bunny". Which then made me think of "punch buggy". Did anybody ever play "punch buggy" when you were a kid? When you would see a Volkswagen Beetle drive by, you would punch the person next to you and say "punch buggy blue" or "punch buggy yellow"? I've also heard it played as "slug buggy."

I've actually been wearing Cacique for about 9 months, and since I don't jump around a lot at the gym, I haven't had a problem. Maybe I'll just skip the sports bra.

Paying it forward! Workout advice!
JustWatchMe replied to therealme89's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm at the beginning of exercise myself and I hired a trainer for twelve sessions. It helps a lot. On alternate days I just walk the treadmill for an hour. -
I walked a 5k at the gym yesterday. scale keeps bouncing. Today I had eggs for Breakfast, almonds and yogurt parfait for lunch. Probably going out for Greek food tonight. I'll stick with a feta salad and saganaki if we do. No bread. I plan to hit the gym on the way home for another treadmill 5k. It takes me an hour. I feel so good when I'm done. My knees are sore but not painful.

The dimming of physical hunger makes it different for me. I really believe I can do this for life now. -
Oh I am dreading a hot summer wearing my body shaper. I'm currently looking for an affordable sports bra since I just joined a gym.

The Waiting Game
JustWatchMe replied to chellet08's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My first surgical visit was in September and I had LapBand surgery in March, so six months. My advice is to change one habit every three weeks and don't go back on it. For example: stop TV eating. Stop drinking with meals. Start logging food. Walk for 10-20 minutes every day. You get the idea. Don't do it all at once. Add a change and commit to it for life. Once it's a habit don't revert to old behavior. If you slip up, big deal. Get right back on the track with the very next meal. Good luck! -
The weight loss mental game thread.
JustWatchMe replied to Healthy_life2's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Love it! Here is what works for me right now. "I don't do that anymore." (Learned that from @Bandista) I nip negative self talk and blame in the bud every time it starts. I take on one new habit at a time and stick to it. Every morning I wake up and write down on a slip of paper what is weighing on my mind or causing me anxiety. It's only one phrase, and often it is related to my food or weight. I staple the slip of paper closed and put it in a special jewelry box. It's my God box. I let God handle it. I nurture myself with nonfood rewards. Every day, I do something for myself that is comforting and nurtures my soul. Examples are a foot massage, manicure, going to a movie, or my latest pastime, coloring books. Don't laugh. Grown up coloring books are a thing, and it's very relaxing. I'm eager to read more replies. -

I wish you could fast forward and see how wonderful your life will be one year post surgery. Absolutely everything changed for me. I'm 54 and I feel better than I did at 35. I had LapBand. Don't let fear stop you. -
Ok glad the crazy stuff was in a different thread. I couldn't figure what on earth could have been said here that could offend someone. I'm doing well. I'm consistently leaving food on my plate and eating small portions. I haven't gotten stuck in weeks. I'm exercising regularly and NOT LOSING anything. Aargh !!! Don't tell me muscle weighs more than fat. I haven't gained enough muscle yet to make that true. My rings are tight, my feet are swollen at the end of the day. I don't think I'm eating too much sodium but I may have to let go of my morning bacon. Frustrated. I have not had movie crapcorn or alcohol in weeks. I just need to trust that eventually the scale will move. Grrr.

What is one guilty pleasure you cannot give up

Foot massages. -
One of the biggest life changes I have made is a commitment to treating myself kindly from now on, no matter what. It is a hard habit to change but so necessary. I'm determined to live my best life and I must be my own biggest advocate.

Welcome! My band was the first in a series of changes that have me living a new and happier life. No regrets. This website is one of my several support systems. Stay connected!

Thinking of you and hoping you feel great. I'm so happy for you.

Chelle, You look beautiful! Congratulations and keep posting!!

Well change of plans. No gym after work. My social life is a-buzzing and dinner out will be early, followed by listening to a band with some friends. Oh well. Glad I got several workouts in this week! Also took a walk in a park with a friend at lunchtime. Life is good.
