Julie you're gorgeous!!!!
-
I know what you mean about not getting sick. I also got bronchitis each winter and every cold turned into misery. I've been banded almost two years now and I don't think I've been sick since surgery.

Jealous, Julie! It's so flipping COLD here!!!

Just checking in with my "family". I've been doing great with the food. Down to 194/193 and slowly bumping that down. I'm finding that the longer my food is clean (no bready or starchy carbs, zero fried food, moderate portions, no alcohol) my band is tighter. I get stuck a lot lately (every couple of days) if I don't chew well and don't slow down. I was eating radishes as a snack every day for awhile and then suddenly at work I got stuck on radishes. Radishes! The sliming was horrendous. And pink. Lol. Anyway, it has proven to me that I am indeed at the right fill level and need no more. The divorce is creeping forward slooooowly, but now that there's a trial date set, I'm looking forward with excitement to the new part of my life waiting for me this summer. I cannot stress enough how important working with a therapist and my 12-step groups has been for me going through all of this. I also have a couple of the best friends in the world and have had these people in my life since age 14. I rely on them so much, and they rely on me as well. I am truly blessed. Happy news. Eldest daughter has started to hear back this week from some of the ten graduate schools she applied to, and has been accepted to Emory, among others. She's flying high, and I'm as proud as a peacock. Hugs to all my peeps.

Self-soothing and comfort foods post bariatric surgery.

I am so sorry about your husband. I agree that we feel the feelings eventually. For me, I had to come to a realization that alternate addictions were where I was headed unless I faced the bad feelings head on. For me, therapy and 12 step programs have helped. -

I go to OA and have found it to be a key factor in my WLS success. I resisted working with a sponsor until a couple of months ago and that change has kicked my program into high gear. I am open about my LapBand in my meetings. I haven't found any negative feedback at all. As we here know, the WLS is a tool. Without addressing the mental, emotional and spiritual components of my relationship with food, it's only a matter of time before old habits return.

The Best and the Worst: Your Weight Loss Surgery NON-MEDICAL Experience
JustWatchMe replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Best. Walking through the world as an "average" person, and not drawing attention to myself based on my size. Worst. Getting stuck on food when eating with other people. That has really taught me to slow down and chew. -
Just kidding sorta. I have squares from the office so maybe I'll win something.

I tightened the inner elastic drawstring in my winter coat so I have a "waist" now. I bought this coat last winter because it had that feature. Now I'm finally using it! -
"I feel skinnyyyyyy, oh so skinnyyyyy....." So this happened. I'm back to my lowest post op weight today. Yay. This is big. I've been bouncing into and out of Onederland for SIX months. A month and a half ago I made some big changes to my food and behaviors. It resulted in the loss of ten pounds I gained back from my low weight last year up to that point. So today I'm back down to 193, back on track, and feeling great. Less than fifty pounds to goal. I started thinking I'd make a list of what's going right. When I can't figure out why things are slowing down or going in reverse, I'll pull out this list and see what I'm doing or not doing. Here goes. Feel free to add your own tips to this thread. Tracking food in MyFitnessPal. Weighing daily. Going to OA and CODA meetings. Therapy every two weeks. Planning food the day before and committing it to my OA sponsor. Staying under 1200 calories a day. No fried food. No carby Thai noodles. No movie crapcorn. Two fruit or p rotein shake s nacks a day. Measuring out nuts instead of guessing the portion. No alcohol. Healthy, boring, simple foods like eggs and cheese and yogurt and meatballs. Way fewer processed foods. Bye bye bread. Just because I drop it in the salad bowl doesn't make it salad. Log it. (See nuts, measured, above.) Journaling. Listening to weight loss and addiction recovery podcasts. Obeying my band. It says "enough"? I stop. I have found that this same fill level that I have been at since August suddenly is just right. Before these changes, I was contemplating another fill because I was able to eat too much. But even then I would get stuck on certain foods if not chewed thoroughly. I wisely took my NP's advice and cleaned up the food and drink before getting a ninth fill. I don't need it now. I'm at the sweet spot, the green zone, the holy grail of band land. It took about four weeks for me to stop daydreaming about the perfect meal and missing my fried foods. Today I crave veggies and simple meals. It's a miracle. But I can't stress enough how important the "head and heart" work is. I am working very, very hard on the emotional and spiritual recovery from my food addiction. Like every day. No kidding. So anyway, just wanted to share this joyful stuff and ask others to pile on. What's going right for you?
