    I AM BAD....OPINIONS.

Be kind to yourself. Really. Starting now. Just a thought too. If the biscuits are the draw for you at RL and they are no fun unless eaten by the basketful, then RL is probably better off left in your past. But that's your decision to make. Most restaurants I go to have a few things I like so if my unhealthy fave is not WLS friendly I can still enjoy myself. Soups are my go to for emergency eating. I'm lucky I like soups and almost every place offers soup. You're doing great. Congratulations on speaking up for yourself.

    Let's talk about NSAIDs

I'm debating whether to get my cortisone shots in my knees soon. The pain has been increasing again but some folks say it's a no-no with banding even though it's not taken by mouth.

    The Waiting Game

The surgeon offices generally know the ropes, and if you weren't a good candidate for approval they would probably know and would have discussed it with you. Think positive and start changing the habits you'll need after surgery. Like eating protein and stopping snacking, etc. Good luck!!!!

    PsyMed

Word to the wise. Pay attention to the advice you get. My psychologist recommended I stop tv eating. At my follow up appointment with him I expected the all clear for surgery. I admitted I had not had success with stopping tv eating. He didn't clear me. I was astounded and furious and so frickin mad at myself. I lost three weeks. It kicked my butt into gear and I broke that habit that day. Three weeks later I was cleared.

Help me, im completely freaking out!

Makes zero sense to me. I would push and push until your doctor phones you to discuss this. Why pay for another office visit? This could very well be a clerical mistake. And who starts a heart medicine for the first time right before major surgery?

@@docbree, my mom is on methotrexate for her RA but can't take anything else forever except Tylenol because of bleeding. Are you on any DMARDs?

    Let's talk about NSAIDs

@@docbree , Relafen most definitely hurt my stomach pre op. I was on Prevacid twice a day or it would burn something awful. I may be sensitive to stomach issues. My mom was, and developed a life threatening bleeding ulcer from Voltarin back in 1990. So I have to be very careful. I tend to take after her physically in many ways.

    update on slipped band

The thing is, movie popcorn basically sucks compared to years ago. My first job was working box office at a local theater. All the movies and popcorn you wanted. It was made with real oil and somewhat real butter. Even without butter it tasted good. Not anymore. This stuff at the multiplex tastes lousy. But I started this stupid treat myself habit of going to the movies alone and eating a bucket of popcorn. Yes post op. And therefore I have no right to moan about the scale stagnating. Sigh. I need a new hobby.

    Getting Started

I had my surgery in March and I have no regrets. For those in pre op stages now, what I found very helpful was to work on changing some habits before surgery. Some key ones are: slow down my eating. Take small bites. Eat only at the table. No snacking between meals. No drinking with meals or for 30 minutes after a meal. Eat Protein first, then veggies. Eat carbs last, if at all. These habit changes are tough, but if you get used to them before surgery, the post op period will be much easier. These are lifetime band habits. If you read that list it does NOT say anything about dieting. My pre op protocol did not require me to lose a certain number of pounds. Some folks have that requirement. Regardless, the eating habits take awhile to change, and working on them while you're still waiting for approval is a great idea. I'm so glad to see new banders coming along. Please stay connected here and ask all your questions. This site is great and is a wealth of support!

    update on slipped band

I hear you about the eating in the recliner. Best thing my pre op psychologist told me was to cut the tv eating. Here at BP I learned about mindful eating. It really makes a difference. The only non mindful eating I do post op is popcorn at the movie theater. I'm starting to realize I have to let that go. It's becoming a slider thrill for me. I find myself going to a new movie several times a month just to eat popcorn. The scale does not like it either. There. I said it out loud. Ugh. Ok now it's time to break that bad habit.
  14. I just know I have to keep tracking no matter what. I tracked on my vacation and it was essential to staying on course. Even if I make different choices while traveling, the accountability helps keep me out of denial and letting things snowball out of control. Your post is good for me to see today. It's a reminder that I will never graduate. And that our bands behave how they want to on any given day. Never dull, right?
  15. Good reminder. I never thought about osteoporosis because I was always obese and brittle bones seemed like something only skinny older people got. But one day I will be a skinny older person too. And what I do now can prevent problems later. Thanks!
  16. Sorry to hear about the pain. I don't have that problem but I do have a big bump where my port is and I'm six months post op. The bump has gotten more prominent the more weight I have lost. I asked my nurse about it this week and she said they used to stitch the port deeper in the body but it was too hard to find for fills on some patients. So now they stitch it right under the fat near the surface. When you lose weight you see it faster. Sounds kind of weird to me, but oh well. I can also move it around with my fingers which frankly creeps me out a little.
  17. This is driving me crazy lately! There are three chairs that I suddenly cannot tolerate. Two at home and one at my office desk. It's because my booty has less cushioning! I have to get up and move because it's so uncomfortable. #skinny@$$b1tc#problems

Here's a great way to get cheap restriction

Don't you make me cry now. Don't do it! I'm missing my lovely daughters who returned to college two weeks ago. No longer freshmen, but it still is rough on Mama. You're right. Our bands definitely react to stress. I had amazing restriction and satiety the whole month of July which was super stressful for me. But then in August my appetite came back. It's a process.....

    I am mad at myself..

I'm sorry this happened. All I can say as a person who is going through a divorce after a long marriage is that I sure wish I had trusted my gut instincts sooner. I let my self and my desires and my ideas and my feelings get overridden for so long, that I don't know if I'll ever learn how to relate authentically to someone in the future. Take care of yourself. You're not crazy. Sounds like he's projecting a lot of his own issues onto you.
