My name is Rose, I am 44 and have one son(22) and a 2 year old grandson. Born and raised in Missouri. I have been overweight my entire life. Like the majority of us I have tried many diets, fads, etc and all would work temporarily and then I would regain the weight and possibly more. My ex-husband passed away in Nov 2013 right before Thanksgiving from a heart attack. He too was overweight however, he was preparing so he could qualify with his doctor/insurance in order to have the lapband done. His sister and I talked and she will be getting the lapband this year 2014, I explained how I wanted to but did not have much support etc. Not only did she lose her brother in Nov, she lost her mother in Feb from heart ,liver ,kidney disease. My heart doctor ran some tests in January and that did it for me. My heart is enlarged and if I do not do something NOW, it could turn into heart disease. My ex-sister-in-law has been a jewel through it all and has committed to come down and stay with me for a few days after surgery. On Feb 19, 2014 I went for my consultation and I met all of the required criteria for my insurance company. They will approve me but for whatever reason they are taking there sweet time. I know it has only been 5 weeks but it seems a lot longer. Since, orientation they put me on a low carb/high protein diet and I have loss 10lbs. My aic(diabetes control) was very bad and I have been working on that. My last aic was 11.2 very bad. On Friday 4/11/14 I will have it rechecked and hoping for results in the 7 area which would be good control. My surgeon wants to know that I have good diabetes control per the nurse practioner I met with. My immediate family, friends have been supportive so I feel I have a good support system to help me. Would I would like to get from this site is more support, encouragement, tips etc. There is no such thing as too much support and I know I will need it. When I decided to get the lap band I googled websites and that is how I came across this one. Now that I have written novel :D it is time to get back to my homework and wait on that phone call from my surgeons office to set my surgery date. I would love to get banded on my birthday but we will have to see if that can be done with time, 2 week pre-op diet etc. I will be having my surgery in Kansas City due to insurance acceptance locally where I live. Does anyone have experience with the weight loss surgical center? Glad to be a part of this family and looking forward to becoming banded hopefully in May 2014.
