My surgeon's office submitted my paperwork to my insurance (BCBS Federal) on 5/21. Now the waiting game happens! Tomorrow marks one week and the surgeon's office told me to check with BCBS at two weeks. Thoughts and prayers would be SO appreciated! I need all the good vibes I can get! I'm sooooo nervous!

Getting Excited! Had my initial consultation Tuesday
urban*decay posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had my inital consultation with my surgeon on Tuesday. I was convinced I was going to choose gastric bypass but he actually said he'd recommend the sleeve. I was surprised but sort of relieved, too. My GP had suggested the sleeve so now I have two doctors telling me the same thing. I have to have my nutritional counseling, which I'll do on 4/3. My second medically-supervised weight loss meeting with my GP will be 4/28. My H Pylori test will also be on the 28th. I have to have my psychological evaluation and that hasn't been scheduled yet. My surgeon said if everything goes well with the insurance pre-approval, I could be having surgery mid-MAY!!!! However, my mom is getting married on 5/31. Since she will be my primary caregiver after surgery, I feel like I can't ask her to take care of me the two weeks before her wedding. I guess I'll wait until she gets back from her honeymoon, so maybe I can be having surgery the 2nd week of June. Please keep your fingers crossed that my insurance approves my procedure!!! -

I just scheduled my initial consultation with the surgeon for 3/25! I'm excited! I have an appointment with my GP on 3/26 to talk about my medically-supervised weight loss, as required by insurance. Anyway, it's a little thing but I'm really excited - it's the first step!

I'm sorry to hear that. What an unfortunate situation. I hope you can do what's best for you and your children, whatever that might be. -
Yes, I'm just starting out! I sure wish I had a date! I just started Weight Watchers yesterday as part of my medically-supervised weight loss. I had a meltdown yesterday because I'm worried I haven't been "morbidly obese" for the 2 years required by my insurance. I need to review my files with my GP, I guess. Anyway, if everything goes according to the plan in my head, I'd like to be having surgery in July or August. We'll see! Urban*decay who do you have for insurance that they require you to be morbidly obese for 2 years? I have never heard of that? Of course I have been that way since I was young, so I guess that wouldn't be a concern of mine? Well don't get too stressed out, just run with it, and tell your doctor everything your going through and feeling. It can be a crazy road your going down don't let them get to you. I have gone down this road twice now, and it can be no fun, but you can do this!!! Just have faith in yourself, and everything will go great!!! I have BCBS Federal. That's the first thing in the list of pre-approval requirements: Must be morbidly obese (40 BMI) or obese (35 BMI and up) with a comorbidity. Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it! -Kaitlin

Pregnancy after Gastric Bypass or Gastric Sleeve?
urban*decay replied to urban*decay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the info, SugarFreeMe! I am leaning toward gastric bypass because it seems to be a better fit. If I can have healthy pregnancies afterwards, then that's definitely the route I'm going to take! -
Pregnancy after Gastric Bypass or Gastric Sleeve?
urban*decay posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I'm new here and my name is Kaitlin. I haven't had children yet but I believe I will want to in about 5 years. I was told by my GP that gastric sleeve would be better because it doesn't have the malabsorption issues that gastric bypass does. However, last night my bariatric surgeon said that pregnancy is possible after either surgery. (Not for 2 years afterwards, but that isn't an issue.) He said he has had many women get gastric bypass and have multiple healthy pregnancies afterwards. Anyway, now I'm confused. After talking to my GP, I thought gastric sleeve was my only option. Now, I feel like I could do either. Does anyone have experience with this or advice to offer? I appreciate your help!- 2 replies
