MrsGloMartin got a reaction from Ginger Snaps in Week Four: Training for the Philadelphia Marathon?
Hi Ginger Snaps, yes, that would be the marathon held in November 2014, this year!!! I'm very excited and yes, I would love for us to meet up and do a run together in Philly or Jersey (I believe you live in Jersey). That would be great and it would motivate both of us to continue our healthy lifestyles. Anything done with others makes it more fun and increases the possibility of us staying focused. You can do this too!!! I suffered for years from low back pain that was so severe that I could not walk more than a few steps before I had to stop and rest. I also have osteoarthritis in my knees, shoulders, hips, and spine that the surgery and weight lost and exercise has helped to greatly allieviate the pain. The longlasting results of this surgery is so worth it!! God bless you and good luck with your surgery. I know you will be fine, I can't wait to plan our marathon together in the very near future!!!

Hi Everyone.. I had my surgery Feb 6th.. The weight loss was pretty rapid the first month where I was losing over 5 lbs a week. Now I'm averaging about 11 lbs a month. I'm not able to get all of the Protein in and was wondering if that can be the reason I have stalls on my weight loss?.. I exercise daily riding my bike at over an hour each ride. Do I need to be taking in more protein?
I'm so happy to find a group that is at the same stage as I am..starting weight 243..weight at surgery date 226.. As of today 175.

Mrsglomartin, what a WONDERFUL goal!!! You can do it too as long as you keep your eyes on the prize! I'm hoping for surgery in early Aug. Perhaps next year I could run a 5k, I've always wanted to try that. Right now my knees are shot from this excess weight but I am hoping weight loss will take care of that.
So you are doing great! Listen to your stomach!! I think next to your doctors advice your stomach comes in 2nd as an expert! :-)
Let us know about that race so we can cheer you on!!!!

November this year? Or next? I ran in high school too and have always wanted to get back into it but the weight has taken it's toll and I wonder if I'll ever be able to again. I was thinking of making a tiny little goal of a 5k late this year. But a marathon???
You GO girl! (and if I get postop and find I can start running some, I'll hit you up to do a 5k with me somewhere near Philly! Maybe one of those Turkey trots on Thanksgiving Day... better than staring at all that food you can't eat!)

Hello everyone, today is week number four post op and I am not at all excited about starting soft foods. I am doing well as far as getting my 64 oz. of Water each day and protien in from the shakes and food, but I'm just not hungry and I can only eat two-three teaspoons of food at a time. I joined myfitnesspal and I'm monitoring what I eat, drink, and my exercises that I do every day. This is a new and exciting world for me because my tastes have changed drastically (I can no longer tolerate anything sweet or fatty) and that's great news for me because I was addicted to sweet-fatty foods for many years. My new stomach is definitely in control of what it likes and doesn't like and I am okay with that. I weighed myself this morning and I have lost another five pounds. Life is good.
At my support group last Wednesday my surgeon gave us a challenge. He challenged us to set a long-term goal for ourselves. Then he asked how many of us would like to run the marathon in Philly in November. I said I have always wanted to get back into running (I used to run track and was on the cheer leaders in high school, and I was on the girls volleybally team) I said yes. I looked at all of the training that I will have to do in preparation and I am going to give it my all. I believe that by setting this training goal I'll be more focused on getting the exercise I need everyday and it will help me to achieve my goal to get to 140 lbs in a years time.

I started walking in the hospital, four hours after surgery and little by little I increased my pace and the amount of steps I took. I'm four weeks post op and I'm walking an hour two times per day and doing aerobics, yoga, and strength training. The more you move the better you will feel. Don't push yourself when your body tells you to stop, STOP!!! But focus on gradually doing more. by week two I was walking outdoors with my dog four about five blocks and back increasing it as I felt better. whatever you decide to do, make sure it is what you like to do and then you will be more likely to wan tto do it consistently, Good luck with your plan, God bless.

Hello all 6 days postop and still have some incision pain. I'm doing lite house choirs and a little walking. I think I'm just getting antsy and feel like I should be doing more. I take a short walk to the mailbox etc. Any support or insight is appreciated. Drinking and eating 2 oz is going fine. The pills are tough but I manage to get them down. I have my first follow up on Tuesday with Nutrician and surgeon.

I am not sure if anyone else has had this problem or not.
I have made it and have gotten my surgery date of June 16th and it seems like every since then I have had the urge to sabotage myself from the day I met my surgeon I have been so strict and I have stuck to the 1200 calorie a day diet like it was law and I haven't eaten anything that wasn't with in the guide lines. I have managed to loose over 30lbs since march 26th and yet I feel I can't see a difference. I haven't eaten anything I shouldn't but it is getting harder to stick to the plan the longer time goes on. I know I only have a month to go but it just seems like that is forever away and the day will never get here.

Hey fellow Philly Native!! Congrats to you!!! I live in Mount Airy East and had mine done at Chestnut Hill Hospital on 4/21. I wish you much luck with your pre op diet the first week is rough but you can do this!! Don't be too hard on yourself about cheating but don't overdo it. Focus on your reasons for having the surgery and keep yourself busy. It's so worth it!!!

I miss, but I'm not craving it; baked macaroni and cheese. I love it with tons of cheese and seasoned bread crumbs on the top. Yummy!!! My attitude towards food has changed totally. I'm now very conscious of all the bad ingredients in the foods I loved because I'm determined to never go back to where I came from. #LovingMyNewLife ????????????

There's a great YouTube video that demonstrates why. The Fluid pushes the food through the pouch too fast causing you yo dump or feel hungry too soon. The video shows him put applesauce in a funnel. The applesauce drips slowly through but when he adds Water, the applesauce is kinda liquified and pours out fast.

You need to pay attention for signs. I either hiccup or belch when I'm full. My surgery was the 18th of March and I'm still only at about 3/4 of a cup of food. At that point I feel the food go down more slowly and then I typically hiccup. Weird I know, but it's my sign. You'll figure yours out, you body WILL tell you when its done.

My nose starts to run when I am getting full. I thought this was strange and asked my dr's office about it at one of my post op appointments and was told that it's a common sign of fullness.

I get a 'tight' feeling around the area of my esophagus. It's a warning sign that another bite or two will cause me misery. I still measure my food - I can eat about 1/2 - 3/4 cup depending on the density of the food. Usually I feel satisfied and have no trouble if I stay in my measured food range.
Edited to add my surgery was 5/30/13 so I am about one year out.

My nose begins to run and I sneeze. The taste of the food which was good up until that time; suddenly the joy of eating is gone. If I eat a little more, it becomes painful and as I enter dumping syndrome.

Yes it's true that none of or journeys will be the same because we all hae such uniquely different body chemistries. I'm just getting back from having my drain tube removed and I've lost 13 lbs since I was weighed on Monday prior to surgery. I thank God that I have no pain at all I only feel soreness on the sites where the scopes were insertered. I'm not hungry, and I have very minimal energy. As soon as I got home I just about fell into my massage chair and sat there for two hours before I got enough energy to move again. I nasked my dr. about this and he said it's because I'm not getting enough Protein in but he also said not to worry about it too much now just focus on staying hydrated and when I begin phase two of my diet I can add more protein in that way an my energy levels should increase rapidly. I pray for total relief from your gout and a road to recovery and healing that becomes smoother as the days go by, Goc bless.
