Coming up on 5 year anniversary and slowing starting to gain
Shea_Shea posted a topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I’m coming up on my 5 year anniversary for my Gastric sleeve in January. I had lost a total of 90lbs and could never weigh less then 164lbs no matter how hard I tried. The last two years I have gained 20lbs and then immediately lost it. But this year I seem to keep gaining about 30lbs and no matter what I am doing I can’t lose it. I know I am probably psyching myself out and maybe self-sabotaging. I’m determined to lose this extra weight before it gets any worse but nothing I seem to be doing is working. I’ve reached out to my doctors and they tell me I’m fine and not to worry but I’m freaking out. I’ve have a close family member who had the gastric bypass and when they hit their 5 year anniversary they gained everything back and then some. I don’t want that to happen to me! Anyone have any tips how to help with this problem?- 5 replies

I regret this surgery
Shea_Shea replied to QueenTiff's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It feels that way now but trust me it gets so much better!!! I'm 3 1/2 years out. It's very different for everyone. Everyone has a different attachment to food. For me food wasn't really an issue so that part wasn't hard for me. But I will tell you what the doctors, the nutritionist, and the nurses have told me (this IS NOT every practice). "You are 3 years out and are maintaining beautifully if you want a damn piece or bite of something then have that damn bite!" I just work it into my lifestyle. If I know I have an event and the food won't be the best choices, I work it into my daily calories. I will do an extra day at the gym so I know I don't mess up. Now is this an everyday or every week thing? Hell no. But being told you can never have something again is a cause for failure for some. With that being said I don't thing you should be doing anything at 3 weeks post opt. I waited till about a 1 1/2 - 2 years before I did anything like that. You are in the "honeymoon phrase" right now. Do everything you can to make that last. I found doing different hobbies, working out, even just going shopping and buying things that I would be able to wear helped clear my mind during the first few months. I promise you it will get easier. No one can really prepare you for the surgery. Yes we all know what the surgery is and the doctors tell you all about it but it's a whole different ball game when you actually go through it. -
First off congrats on taking the first steps to having a healthier life. I'm sorry your friend is making it into a competition. You should both just be supporting each other. But as far as her coming to the appointment with you, I personally wouldn't have her go. There is so much information that you and the surgeon need to discuss and if she tries to start talking about herself things might not get discussed. As much as you want to make it enjoyable and simple for her, you have to remember you are also doing this for yourself. If the rolls were reversed would she let you piggy back her appointment? I think you probably know the answer to that. Hopefully everything works out and you get alittle more support!

Anyone close to you against your tummy tuck?
Shea_Shea posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
So for some reason my boyfriend isn't too thrilled about my going to the plastic surgeon. I've come so far and I have a consultation with the surgeon in February and he keeps telling me I don't need to do this. He is so supportive with everything else but for some reason he gets so upset with the tummy tuck. I'm doing it either way but how do I get him on board? -
Holy crap!!! You look awesome!! How far out are you??

I am 5'0" 251lbs And Considering the surgery
Shea_Shea replied to MorenaD's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi! I'm 5'0 and was 254 at the time of my surgery. I'm 6 months out have lost 84lbs and I don't have any loose skin so far. And I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I was lifting weights before and after surgery. I still have another 50 lbs to go if I have loose skin so what. The surgery was the best thing I could do for myself. Good luck -

Is it safe to dye my hair? (6 months post opt)
Shea_Shea replied to Comfy_Blue's topic in The Gals' Room
You should be fine! I'm 5 1/2 months out and a hairstylist and I've been coloring my hair. I haven't had a problem. -
how do you know when you are Full?
Shea_Shea replied to kappy1418's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tightness of the chest was a definite sign for me that I was full. Also hiccups are another one. I still get hiccups still today and I'm about 5 1/2 months out. But you feel it too when you are full. -

Thanks! It's just so weird I had more confidence when I was heavier and now I'm always kind of hiding myself when around people. Hopefully that will go away.

So I decided to try dating again. This is the first time since my surgery in Jan. I have a date Friday with a guy I met on match. Totally different kind of guy then I usually go for. He and I are both very into working out at the gym (we actually go to the same gym) and hiking. But now after my surgery I feel really insecure about myself. I also don't know if I should just be straight forward and tell him I had the surgery or just not say anything. I also think he thinks I'm a lot smaller then I am which I know shouldn't matter anyway he should like me for me. But it's kind of nerve-racking. Anyone else having dating problems?

Has anyone experience thining hair?
Shea_Shea replied to bagonian74's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a problem with thinning hair before. I started using biotin and a hair treatment called redken intraforce. It seems to be helping a lot. I actually have a lot of my clients using it and they say they same thing that their hair feels fuller. -

This has been a roller coaster ride so far and I know it's still going to continue. But for the first time in a long time I am finally finding myself and becoming happy. I was the girl who would always go out of my way to please everyone but now I'm finally do things to please me. I have found out who the true friends are and who are the fake ones. I've learned not to be so hard on my self and things take time. I didn't gain it in a day, I won't be losing it in a day either. It's been 3 1/2 months since my surgery and I've lost 60lbs. That's more then I have ever lost before. I weigh less now then I did in the 8th grade (btw I'm 24 now). I put 3 pictures together today and I can't stop staring at it. I seriously can't believe this is me now. I have never been happier! Can't wait to see what else is in store for the new me!!
