I used Dr Felix Geller for psyche. Had to pay because HNJH doesn't cover psyche. My nutritionist was Dr Fried. He's covered under HNJH, but didn't really give me any info regarding nutrition. I am now three days post op. Feeling ok. It was pretty easy to get approved. I think I might be the only one that checks this forum now. I'm answering my own questions! -
Moving on up!
Ariellestarr replied to Ariellestarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! It's my third day post op. I'm feeling ok, but worried about getting dehydrated. They have me drinking out of medicine cups every half hour. That just doesn't sound right to me to be enough to keep me hydrated. Did anyone else have to do the same? -

JUNE 2014 POST OP SUPPORT GROUP!
Ariellestarr replied to bravobentley's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was banded yesterday! Came home last night. I'm pretty sore, but feeling ok. Every now and then I get a little hungry, but it goes away. I'm just trying to keep up with my fluids and sip out of the medicine cups every half hour. When I left the hospital, they said I'm doing great. So hopefully I'll be fine in a few days. -

Amazing Meal by Amazing Grass, anyone?
Ariellestarr replied to JawaGal42's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
If you're looking for plant based, check out the Vega Sport line. It's delicious and they have so many options. They have shakes for just abouy everything and protein bars. It's vegan. Soy, nut, gluten, and dairy free. It's available at GNC, Whole Foods, and Vitamin Shoppe. Vitamin Shoppe is the cheapest, but GNC has a buy one get one 50% off sale now! -
I just turned 24! Getting banded next Monday!

@ I'm on a two week thing! Three protein shakes, one small meal a day, and unlimited raw veggies. It's not terrible, but still a little hard to avoid temptations. I've been having really weird cravings! -

Protein shakes

I use Epiq Isolate from GNC. I've only tried the vanilla flavor. When I make it, I put cinnamon in it. It tastes exactly like rice pudding and/or horchata! It's delish -

Why is everything on the pre and post op diet sugar free?
Ariellestarr posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
All sugar free items contain chemicals that are worse than eating regular sugar! I don't understand why doctors are encouraging this when it is toxic to our systems, and especially those of us with a minimized stomach. Does anyone have an answer as to why they encourage our diets to incorporate artificial sweeteners? -
Hi all! I'm on day three of my pre op diet. Surgery is the 30th!

Congrats, @@MissMac! Sugar really is just a terrible thing that most of us can't seem to get away from. Luckily in this day and age there are so many alternatives to sugar AND artificial sweeteners. My personal favorite is organic coconut sugar. It comes in about a one pound at Trader Joe's for $3 and change. It's a great, healthy alternative, and tastes better than any artificial sweetener or sugar! I do believe it is also diabetic friendly, but of course check before you consume I'm glad I have a basic knowledge of real healthy eating and some good habits pre op. I wish more doctors and nutritionists took more of a holistic approach to our diets. Doctors took a hippocratic oath clearly stating "let food be thy medicine", yet pump their patients up with fat free, low fat, splenda, artificial this and that, and even medications! -

I regularly use organic coconut sugar. I was just curious because I went shopping for my pre op diet at Whole Foods. Even there I couldn't find any kind of decent ice pop or sorbet with stevia or the like. It just got me thinking! Thanks for all your responses -

Ariellestarr replied to Thick'n'Thin's topic in Insurance & Financing
I was told it's typically a 3 month wait depending on how fast you finish all your pre op testing. I'm at the end and it's been just about 3 months. Aiming for June 30th!
